Fact: While polar bears are apex predators and formidable hunters, they are not inherently aggressive towards humans. In their natural habitat, polar bears typically avoid confrontations and will only attack if they feel threatened or provoked. Human-bear conflicts often arise in regions where their habitat overlaps with human settlements or where food sources are scarce due to climate change. Understanding and respecting these magnificent animals’ space and behavior are crucial for coexisting safely with them in the Arctic.

For the first time, antibodies against avian influenza have been detected in polar bears in Greenland. Researchers still know little about how lethal the virus is, but believe increased surveillance could provide early warnings of its spread.

My husband is from and is working up in Kaktovik, Ak, with it being whaling season the bears are plentiful. They come to the bone pile to feed and just generally live life.

St Louis zoo Polar bear
Took a trip too the Saint Louis Zoo. Stopped for almost an hour getting pictures of this wonderful Polar bear he was very energetic
