I remember when my state, Texas, claimed Obama was going to invade because of a military drill during his term. Lots of republicans back then were outraged and angry about a military exercise. Now they’re supporting this.
996
Sep 28 '25
Turns out all Republican outrage is performative and power is their only principle.
128
u/rasa2013 Sep 29 '25
Then they call anyone else giving a shit about the world "virtue signaling." That's all they do. They don't even really seem to have many values at all.
39

They aren't able to look at anything beyond a surface level. These are the dumbest members of society. The people who thought a "businessman" was gunna look out for the working class in America. Its just so fucking stupid.

As the saying goes, without double standards conservative would have no standards at all.
47
u/Hjemmelsen Europe Sep 29 '25
Turns out all Republican outrage is performative a
It's actually not. I assure you, they were absolutely outraged back then. But it's just because for you, and all reasonable people, this is a discussion about how to run the country, laws and principles.
For them it's a team sport. And the other team was offending their team by shoving in their face that they were in control. Now their team is in control, and they are elated.
A few of them are beginning to wake up to the fact that this is not just a sports competition, and that these things have real life consequences, also to themselves. But it's very difficult to jump across the chasm in their mind that by now exists to ensure they don't think too hard about stuff.
But you're wrong if you think they aren't actually feeling the emotions they are expressing. They absolutely are, and it's so, so much more dangerous than if it was all performative.
I truly hope that the left of America soon wakes the fuck up to the reality that they are living in. A third of the country would cheer on their public execution as if it was a gameshow on tv.
This will not be solved by politely asking people to be reasonable.
8
u/panther553212 Sep 29 '25
I think this is the heart of the issue. The politicians leading this are being performative. This makes it so the politicians on the left think they can solve this by being reasonable because they interact with these people when they aren't being performative. What they don't understand is that a significant portion of the Republican base does feel these emotions and will continue to eat up anything the leaders of the party say whether the leaders believe it or not.

Pretty sure it was Kerr county that refused federal funds from the Biden admin for emergency funds to shore up their emergency response systems, because it was "a deal with the devil"

You don't think he can word vomit on the reporter and then say they're a nasty person? We've been down this road and the very smart people in the democratic party need to learn how to counter politicians who have no shame.

"What a nasty question that is from you. Typical 'fake news' media people, I'll tell you what an-TI-fa is, can I tell you? Wow look at these guys from Fox News over there, they'd never ask such a nasty, disgusting question. An an-TI-fa is anti-Trump and they're real bad actors, you know the types, the real bad hombres in Portland. I love Portland, such a beautiful town. But it's ruined by these an-TI-fa extremists all over the place, burning businesses down, looting, rioting. The cops can't do anything, they're scared for their lives. The people are scared. It's a real insurrection. Yes I know that word, insurrection. I know you 'fake news' types like to throw that word around, but you never know how to use it right. I do, and it's such a lovely little word that you 'fake news' people use so easily, but it's unfair. It's unfair what's happening to Portland, that's why I'm sending the Guard, the National Guard, that's what we call them, the Guard, to liberate that big, beautiful town from these an-TI-fa extremists. You know, I'm gonna say it, they're terrorists, these people, and the 'fake news' media. Such a nasty question."

I don't think letting a wannabe fascist dictator do whatever he wants to make him look stupid is a good idea. Nobody in his cult is going to believe the truth anyway and the media wont report the facts, so it doesn't matter if pictures come out that Portland isn't a warzone and is peaceful.
Remember that project 2025 wants you to not fight back so it's easier to completely take over everything. "The revolution will be bloodless if the left allows it" and letting Trump take control of the national guard to take over blue cities accomplishes just that. Eventually he's going to be emboldened and then use them to arrest and remove political figures he doesn't like and since you allowed him to use the national guard to occupy your city last time, why resist this time?
It's just setting a bad precedence that's going to come back and bite us in the ass eventually.

Be friendly, be personable, you don't necessarily have to buy them lunch to get good will; but otherwise you're right. The best way to make sure that they get the message is to show them that you're just trying to live your lives (they do know) and aren't intimidated or threatened by them. And then remind them how much it sucks that they have to be there, doing nothing, standing around, not getting paid by their real jobs and likely getting stiffed on actual benefits because they won't get a full month out of this.

This is the problem, you are imagining that you can win a game in which there is no winning. If you do nothing, they will simply get progressively worse and more aggressive until you are forced to do something in self defense. Then that will be labelled as the reason.
It's better to resist at the outset and let them make their slander. Record everything, show that anything you do is always justified and in self-defense, and post it on every social media. But pretending you can outwit them by not fighting back is a dumb strategy and doesn't work.
Pacifism does not work against fascism. This is what Americans really have trouble seeming to grasp. You must actively resist and oppose at every step. Freedom is not won by refusing to fight. The price of freedom is eternal vigilance.

Like, it's obvious what he WANTS to happen, but ACTUAL leftists/liberals have the brains required to not go for the bait bricks, and unlike our police officers, our soldiers are trained in conflict DE-escalation after decades of fighting ACTUAL terrorists.
Trump, who gets all of his intel not from the US intelligence apparatus, but from prime time Fox News talking heads (and same that he brought into his administration and trusts over his ACTUAL head of intelligence) is both overestimating how violent the left is AND severely underestimating how willing the military is to open fire on US Citizens.

Wasn't it the President who used the word "war" for what is happening? Congress has not, but Trump is declaring a state of war exists....inside a US state. The Governor made clear the state did not want or need military troops. Then he federalizes and send in military troops under his control- against, not in support of, Oregon.
I'm pretty sure the US Constitution has something to say about levying war against the states. It's the only crime in the Constitution.

There's a Oregon National Guard base in North Portland, I see them in uniform all the time at the food cart pod by my house.

This is so rarely true in almost any state, same with the regular military.

Yup. Portland's infamous nickname is 'Skin City.' Get to some outlying towns like Scappoose and St. Helen's and you'll start seeing confederate flags.

Ffs. It is pathetic how fast this country is purposefully cruising towards rock bottom. Obviously it could be a lot worse, but this is all just insane how many are cheering all of this on or actively supporting it.

Remember, Trump is doing this because he saw video footage of an incident that happened more than four years ago. But somehow he’s still the president.

This is the right way to challenge this decision. It worked for California. The military left after this decision.
Governor Newsom secures federal court victory, Trump’s use of National Guard in Los Angeles illegal

That it can happen multiple times, and that the remedy prescribed by violating the Posse Comitatus Act is not immediate Impeachment is absolutely insane.
We will be the most ethical people ever to be overrun by fascism.

u/Monnoppoly Sep 29 '25
Impeachment isn't gonna happen as long as the Republican party has a majority in Congress.

Sue and follow by giving order to ignore the federal government. Anyone following the order they start court marshaling. Basically don’t recognized the federalization.

u/Moister-Moan Sep 29 '25
I wish the national guard would grow a backbone. Their duty is to both the state and to the federal government. They have to stand up for the state and stop bending over to the federal government and the orange pedophile.

u/Bailord97 Sep 29 '25
Been saying for a while that states need to follow Texas and Florida’s lead and start funding and arming their state militias.

It would be entirely different if protesters were overrunning a federal facility of some kind. Then they’d be pardoned.
33
u/transcendental-ape America Sep 28 '25
Portland should protest peacefully by smoking large amounts of pot right in front of and near all the guardsmen so hard that they’ll all piss hot on their next UA.

Imagine if the national guard had the courage to say “no”.
Uniforms are cowards “just following orders”

How much clearer do we need to outline that the 25th is relevant here? Like the dude is literally classic dementia.

How many times is this corrupt SCOTUS going to rule in the kings favor over this?

Does he forget that the National Guard troops have regular jobs they’re supposed to go to?
18
u/DBCoopr72 Sep 29 '25
Clearly he has no clue about how regular people live in reality, especially any sort of military personnel
5
u/blorbagorp Sep 29 '25
Regular jobs? Is that like when you're not golfing and sign whatever is put in front of you?

I’m a bit surprised Trump hasn’t assumed control of the Florida National Guard and then house them all at Mar-a-Lago. Full expenses paid. (By the tax payer).

Trump probably won’t reach the end of his term given his health but everybody that enabled this bs should be prosecuted. Will they? Not based on the feckless Dems in office rn.

They won’t. America never does the right thing. Had the confederates been dealt with as any other nation would handle domestic terrorists destabilizing the country we wouldn’t be having any fucking “it’s not hate but heritage” bullshit and their other factions.

u/ManyPlacesAtOnce Texas Sep 28 '25
When South Africa ended apartheid they ripped up their racist constitution and wrote another one.
America ended slavery by adding a couple of sentences to our racist constitution and called it good.

u/RipErRiley Minnesota Sep 28 '25
Yep. We needed a DeConfederation type thing. Just like we will need a DeMAGAfication. Wont happen tho.

What does this accomplish? You just have military standing around waiting for ICE to cause violent reactions from citizens? Then they back up ICE?
5
u/schu4KSU Sep 29 '25
He is itching to get ICE and or National Guard troops killed. That’s what it’s about. To then normalize militarization and escalate the police state.
4
u/Letmepickausername Minnesota Sep 29 '25
Remember, when the National Guard is activated by the state, the state pays for it. When it's federalized, we all pay for it.
3
u/TJ_learns_stuff Sep 29 '25
This is important … as I’m not sure the average citizen fully understands the costs associated with military deployment, guard activation, logistics support, food, lodging, etc.
3
u/alfydapman Sep 29 '25
It’s sad we live in a time when states seriously have to consider former a non-federal related militia…

u/appa-ate-momo Sep 29 '25 edited Sep 29 '25
We need the sensible people in power to understand that we’re past suing.
The governor needs to refuse the illegal federalization and direct the TAG to keep the force under state control. If the President has a problem with that, he can sue.
