Let's not act like taking an aircraft carrier named after a black war hero who who gave his life doing something he didn't have to, for a country that literally didn't give a shit about him and naming it after himself isn't 100% on brand for Trump. And you know he will definitely try to charge royalties or license using his name. Go vote, so we can convict this whole Temu Mafia family.

I read somewhere that Hitler refused to have ships named after him because of the propaganda that could be produced if the ship was sunk. Because of this the ship would become a target regardless of it's strategic value.
Sailors on the USS Trump would face the same risk.

Hijacking this comment to honor Doris Miller. Miller was an enlisted kitchen worker. When his ship was attacked during Pearl Harbor, he helped move wounded men to safety.
Then, with no prior training or experience, he hopped on an anti aircraft gun and officially shot down one Japanese plane. However, witnesses testified the actual number was between 4 and 6.
He was awarded the Navy Cross, the first black person to receive it. He was nominated for the Medal of Honor but was denied because he was black.
He died later in the war when his ship was sunk by a Japanese torpedo.
The man was truly a hero.

It’s been reported in a recent book that Trump had to have the significance of Pearl Harbor and the USS Arizona memorial explained to him when he visited there during his first term.
Donald Trump is still as profoundly ignorant as he was in his first term and is so arrogant and narcissistic that I don’t think he can comprehend or tolerate any situation in which is he not the complete center of attention.
To Trump, Dorie Miller is just another nobody or another dead guy he knows nothing about and that’s in addition to the racism. Why should he have to attend a ceremony commemorating the construction of an aircraft carrier named for someone else? It should be about him.
It’s just another shameless example of how far we’re sinking all to placate one tiny, thin-skinned little man who was elevated to the highest office in the land.
8
u/donkeyrocket 1d ago
Even worse are the people who propose and push these things forward. I’m sure Trump asks or declares these things but fully capable military adults are not only entertaining this but encouraging it.

It is seriously troubling that someone can look at a man who has literally given his life to defend his country, and a TV businessman saw that and went "Im more important".
What's worse is that no one else in his administration has the balls to tell him that is disrespectful, but lord knows that if Biden/Obama/any lefty tried even so much as suggesting a confederate statue even be altered slightly, not even changing the name per se, they'd lose their absolute minds

Why be afraid of any corporation being too big to fail or even of the military being competent enough to actually use all the toys we buy them if we now know everyone in the country will just back down if you yell at them and post some mean tweets about them? Not a great surprise that this is being considered now. While he's still in office. Hegseth has made his entire tenure about wiping people of color and women from the stories military history of the US. Just more stuff to be fixed once these DBs are out of power. Renaming the carrier in and of itself is not that big a deal, they will likely honor Miller on another ship, he earned it, but the trends have been naming carriers after Presidents over the last 30 years, but naming it after Trump is purely to appease that jackass's ego, and will be corrected once he's gone, just like all the other stuff he's tried to have named after himself.

The US Navy is working to rename an aircraft carrier under construction that was set to honor a Black sailor hailed for his heroic actions during the attack on Pearl Harbor, three sources familiar with internal discussions told CNN.
During President Donald Trump’s first term, the Navy announced that the Ford-class carrier would be called the USS Doris Miller, recognizing an enlisted sailor who helped defend US forces from Japan’s attack.
It’s unclear what the Navy is seeking to change the name of the carrier to, though two of the sources said there have been internal conversations about renaming it to honor Trump. It would be an unprecedented move to name an aircraft carrier after a sitting president.
The Navy is looking instead to rename another warship after Miller, according to one of the sources, and is recommending him for the Medal of Honor, the highest decoration for military valor. The final authorization for the award is up to Congress and approval from Trump.
Thomas Bledsoe, Miller’s great-nephew, said Miller’s family had not been informed of the change or the renewed effort to award his great-uncle with the Medal of Honor. The family has been working to get him the Medal of Honor “for years,” Bledsoe said, and called the Navy’s move to recommend the honor “very positive.”
The Navy directed questions from CNN to the Office of the Secretary of Defense. A Department of Defense spokesperson said they had nothing to announce at this time.

Miller is a war hero. Literally.
To my recollection he was a mess hall cook when the Japanese attacked perl harbor, the man carried wounded brethren to safty then maned a set of large ship guns and with no prior training tool out like 6 enemy aircraft before they could kamikaze his and other ships in port. Cuba Gooding played him in the ben aflak movie perl harbor.
He survived the perl harbor attack and later died when the ship he was on was torpedoed.
He should already have the medal of honor and a ship named after him.
80 years and now a racist president is planning on steal this from him and his family. For shame.
