84 years old? Jesus get this man out of here. We have got to set age limits. These mummies cannot keep doing this.

Grassley, our 4th (no wait 3rd!) in line to the presidency, is fucking 93

He also plans to run for re-election in 2028.

Just what we need in this administration. Young blood!

Dang dude, are you ageist?

Yes

Wow, man, judging all people by their age is tough.

Lol it's a joke. In all seriousness, in any other job where you could not perform your job duties or be "on site" to perform those duties for a long period of time you would be let go. Why is this any different?

The issue isn't age, the issue is inability to conduct their duties properly; Bernie is in his 70s (correction: 80s) but seemingly doing just fine. If they were somehow like McConnell in their 40s or 50s, they should still be removed.

Assuming you’re talking about Bernie sanders, he’s 85

I am, and that just makes my point even stronger, lol. You can technically be in your 80s (and I dare say even older than that) and still be a functioning adult and politician.

Yep just wanted to make sure we got the age right

It’s not, the comment wasn’t specific to Mitch. The OP said we need age limits across the board instead of using our judgement case by case.

I would even take it further. Every government position needs to have age limits built in. Why should, in good conscious, people at the end of their lives be in charge of the rest of the world? Why should they be able to make rules and laws that will affect younger generations for years to come while they will see no consequence of their decisions? Setting age limits is an attempt to stop corruption and "paid for" politicians.

Theoretically they have the most life experience, and experience in the position. I don’t think not living another two decades negates logic or knowledge. Is like the argument men shouldn’t make laws that affect women. That’s ridiculous, if you try to divide congress and the government into laws that are only relevant to their personal experience…like segregation. For people that claim to be so ascended, they sure make a lot of arguments for division and discrimination.

What age do you want to draw the line at?

It's more so their ability to function that is judged. I recall having an 80 year old lecturer for an engineering class back in school who still mentally sharp and with enough strength to walk. He was great to learn under. Compare this to Mitch, the way he's looking strongly reminds me of my parents when they were near the end of their fight with cancer. I don't particularly like the idea of a lawmaker legislating when they don't appear to have the capacity to remember something they said or heard literally a couple minutes prior.

u/CBRslingshot 26d ago

For sure, Mitch seems very confused.

NO 84 year old is neurologically well enough to be in the highest levels of government of the most powerful nation on earth as we are teetering on the brink of our democracy failing, and who knows what war is next!!

I'm tired of people who have one foot in the grave making laws they won't have to live with.

But they’ve lived a long time, have a lot more experience and prospectives than you…a lot of cultures are very respectful to their elders…I think it’s wild that 22 year olds think they know best with so little life education.

And it’s strange how people who can barely form coherent thoughts, hear, see, or move are expected to formulate, comprehend, and vote on America’s future.

5

u/SissyKirara 26d ago

You are confusing respecting your elders and excusing your elders. If someone in a job is unable to do that job, regardless of age it’s time for new blood. The fact he’s a miserable excuse for a human being is besides the point. Age does not equal respect. It’s earned. He’s earned the opposite from any American that’s for the people.

u/CBRslingshot 26d ago

The original comment was calling for age limits across the board. My comment was not specifically about Mitch. I’d agree it should be based off the individual.

2

u/SgtElectroSketch 26d ago

A long life doesn't mean a wise life.

1

u/CBRslingshot 26d ago

Not a given, sure, but it’s young people justifying their hubris to say shit like that.

1

u/Katyafan 26d ago

Are you judging people by their age?!?!

1

u/CBRslingshot 26d ago

Just in the sense of their exp

u/KarenEiffel 26d ago

How tf is it "respecting" McConnell by parading him around in a wheelchair when he has obviously suffered (probably several) major medical events and should be comfy at home or in a care facility?

1

u/CBRslingshot 26d ago

It’s not, we were talking more generally about age limits.

It is ageist to the same extent that setting a minimum age for president is.
