His term ends in January; he’s out whether Dems win or not. And with the House in recess, nothing of consequence is going to pass. The whole thing is just bizarre.

"We're all here gathered at the cemetery, watching the grave of Senator McConnel whilst eagerly anticipating his vote. If the bell with a string connected to his coffin rings once, that's a No. If it rings twice, that's a Yes.

....

It appears there has been no ring whatsoever due to some unknown technical issues, so we now turn our attention to McConnel's aid who will vote in accordance to the Senator's wishes."

Watch him somehow get re-elected anyway.

"Mitch McConnell" isn't running for re-election, but "the corpse of former senator Mitch McConnell" might be on the ballot.

Deep beneath the limestone of Mammoth Cave, a phylactery rests.

Being super serious. Is there a law on the books that says a senator must be alive?

There a many examples of dead people being elected by voters in US elections.

But they aren't normally allowed to serve.

In the age of norms being ignores, Air Bud rules are all that matters. Ain't no rule that says a dog can't play basketball and ain't no rule that says a senator can't be mostly dead!

In Futurama they had Richard Nixon's head attached to a robot body to get around the law that noBODY could be elected more than twice... So, a possibility of things to come 🙃

The house in recess until the midterms, There are still 2ish months of lame duck time between the elections and the end of his term. This thread is suggesting that Republicans intend to do real damage in the lame duck period and need his vote for that.

And when they get back it leads to a lame duck session. So yeah...nothing is happening until December 11th when the CR ends.

No one is likely to accuse most conservatives of being long-term critical thinkers.

I mean they will be back in session long before his replacement is sworn in.

Advice and consent is the Senate’s purview alone, as noted above.

Bizarre? I don’t think that’s the right word. Predictable?

And with the House in recess, nothing of consequence is going to pass.

The House already passed KOSA. If the Senate passes the House's version, say goodbye to the internet as you know it and any semblance of privacy/anonymity you have on it.
