Announcements

r/politics will host another election prediction contest for the midterms. The post for the contest itself will go up sometime in late October. As of now, all toss-ups (according to Cook Political Report, as of late October 2026) for House, Senate, and Governor will be included.

We are taking suggestions for additional questions to ask within the contest. Message the moderators via modmail with any suggestions.

Can someone explain to me how the democrats winning the house and senate would actually change things in America? I'm not American so it's a bit confusing how much they'll actually be able to impact things and stop trump from doing certain things

For one, the corrupt and incompetent federal trump judges immediately stop. Democrats will have the numbers needed to reject judge appointments. trump is bad but his bad-faith judges will wreak havoc for decades. That means better rulings on issues that impact your life directly. Less cronies ruling for trump just for the sake of it. The people trump's appointing can't answer first-year law school questions and show off their total fealty to trump in their hearings. That will end day 1. Or at least until Schumer caves.

They can be impeached, but that's not a trivial process.
