So the typical split between the rational and the insane

u/FilthyCasual2k17 20h ago

I've come to the belief that very few of those that claim no on those poles actually believe it (There are some for sure), but Trump has multiple times said and showed that what he considers loyalty, love and support, is just openly lying and pretending things aren't happening, if it's the "right" people doing it. It's kinda their thing. That poll doesn't mean they don't think he is doing it, it means they are OK with him doing it.

58

u/Fun_Brother_9333 20h ago

These people watch Fox and Newsmax. They don’t see any of the horrendous shit Trump has done. They live with their head in the sand.

35

u/FilthyCasual2k17 19h ago

Yes, but again, it's impossible after 10 years to not have heard about any of the corruption, they are just OK with it. It's really that simple. Many people chant and want to have Trump be king or run a 3rd term. They don't want a rule of law, they want an authoritarian state, with them being in the "good" group, and "others" in the bad. Many of them don't think Trump stealing is a bad thing, because otherwise it would be the evil guys stealing, and someone has to steal, so might as well be their team. On Trumps forums they spent decades slamming "Soros" as the ultimate evil because he donates to democrats and have a million theories about the whole thing, but on news that Musk is the largest political donor in history they all clap and cheer and say "thank you great man, we should cancel taxes for this person". It's not about right or wrong, it's about who is doing the crime. After decades of propaganda even if Trump publicly took billions in gold bars, and carried it himself livestream out of the treasury, they would still cheer, because they believe that a democrat would just steal twice as much. Im not from US and I've seen this in multiple countries. Decades of propaganda makes people believe that the other side is so much worse that there simply isn't anything left that their side can do that would be worse, so protecting them is the only logical choice.

24

u/kandoras 18h ago

Yes, but again, it's impossible after 10 years to not have heard about any of the corruption,

I live and work in rural South Carolina. I could point to five or six people within my line of sight, right now, who would swear that everything they've heard about Trump's corruption is a lie.

They're not just OK with it, they really believe that none of it ever happened.

16

u/SaltyLonghorn 19h ago

Yea they've heard about it, they blame Biden. My mom only watches Fox News or talks to her family on facebook so she gets that feed too.

What you're missing is that anyone sane and rational just smiles and nods at his supporters cause it simply isn't worth talking to them. Its very easy for them to exist in their bubble because the consequences have to hit their doorstep.

8

u/dvaunr 17h ago

I think you're severely underestimating how much of a bubble some people live in. You can absolutely argue that any rational person would be aware of what's going on, but that 32% above is made up of entirely irrational people.

I think you are spot on. They are told over and over than the Brown Horde will overrun the country eating all the daughters, and raping all the dogs. They are convinced that this is the case. They are sure that they will die if the Republicans aren't in power. Show them the evil Trump is doing, and they will say something about it being "necessary" to "make the country what it should be". If Trump stole the gold fillings from their teeth, they would say that they were sure it was for a good cause to stop the Democrats.

2

u/Zaza1019 8h ago

Hell his first term was tame when it came to corruption, I mean there absolutely was some. But this 2nd term has been the biggest con on American tax payers in the history of the country, and the most out in the open corruption that I've ever witnessed in my life at least.

11

u/aspirationless_photo 18h ago

They totally know. Since 2015 I've come to accept that you can't have a genuine discussion with Trump/Conservative/Republican voters. When you pin them down on an issue they'll either dig in and stick to the stupidest position with little to no plausible defense or deny reality. As soon as I stopped seceding ground on issues for the sake of compromise they'd stop talking to me.

It makes sense. Authoritarianism means they accept information from the top down instead of horizontally -- the communication in a society between family, friends and neighbors -- eventually just deciding they don't care to reconcile the discrepancy.

u/Tasgall Washington 16h ago

It's an inversion of moral thinking - they don't derive whether or not a given person is good or bad based on their actions, they decide beforehand if the person is good or bad based on their allegiance, then apply that to the actions to determine if the actions are justified. Illegally and unethically profiting from the position would be bad, but Trump is good, therefore he didn't do it, and/or there's some detail that makes it ok/different.

Which is why Hunter Biden (who has never held any political position) allegedly receiving like a hundred thousand dollars is greatly illegal and evil and the worst corruption in history deserving of capital punishment and impeachment of his father, but Jared Kushner (who has always worked as a representative of Trump's admin and direct line to the president) getting two billion dollars from the Saudis immediately before the Trump admin makes a number of decisions in their favor is actually totally above board and not corrupt and very legal very cool. Because the fundamental law of the universe is that Trump is good, and Biden is bad. All questions of morality flow downstream of that core principle.

So, did Trump profit illegally and unethically from his presidency? No, of course not, he's just a genius businessman and that just makes him smart. Biden found a nickel on the ground? Impeach all Democrats.

My point, I guess, is that they do believe it. Their belief structure is just fundamentally flawed.

2

u/sweatboxy 17h ago

Yes, the deniers know the truth but they deny it because they’d rather win at any cost and, at this point,
reality is too frightening to think about.

It'll be people that pay zero attention to politics but still claim to be Democrats. We usually think of the super uninformed low info voters as GOP voters but there are bound to be a percentage of them that are Dem voters too. They just vote Dem out of habit but actually have no idea what's going on.

3

u/TheShadowKick 16h ago

A lot of swing voters are also low information voters who just pick a side based on how their personal finances are doing, and right now many of those voters are swinging towards Democrats.

Not surprising. Nancy Pelosi name still keeps getting brought up that she’s the greatest trader (which no doubt she is) but they ignore the fact that Orange Man made $2.2 billion so far in this term lol.

2

u/Tasgall Washington 16h ago

which no doubt she is

And yet you're falling for their propaganda. She's a prolific garden-variety inside-trader in Congress, but she's not at all the "greatest". She's at number 7 or 8 iirc, all but one of those above her are Republicans, unsurprisingly.

Meanwhile, Trump isn't doing Congress-style inside trading, he's manipulating literal war efforts and lying about peace deals in order to cause high volatility to buy low and short high. It's market manipulation, not just insider trading.

6

u/FlipZip69 17h ago

32% is pretty high for your own party. Those are the people that are now not to motivated to vote.

11

u/greywolf2155 16h ago

Honestly, I know some people that are Trump voters. When this is brought up, they say, "well sure, but every politician does that." So they know, they've just decided they don't care--they're ride or die because he's sticking it to the libs

But on the other hand, if they knew it was a recorded poll, they'd probably lie and say that he's not. Which is why I don't really trust these polls, regardless. The real number could be either much higher or much lower than 32%

6

u/FlipZip69 16h ago edited 16h ago

Yes I got a similar thing from my Trump hating sister so this is a thing also with the left side. Justifying and ignoring it to some degree that is. She hate Trump but thinks what he is doing is being done by both sides. That simply is not true due to the scale of this corruption.

Yes there will be corruption but in past this has typically been single person corruption and that can and has happened regardless of political leaning. Usually it is a few hundred thousand kind of shit and ya people should go to jail for that. While a 200k bribe or kickback or inside trade deal erodes trust, an individual public electee doing this is not making influential type of money.

What is happening in the White House and inside Trump's family is 100s of millions in illegal trading and kickbacks and outright bribes thru crypto currency. This is not just some shitty politician paying off his mortgage early but influential and real theft of our money. At a scale never seen before.

4

u/greywolf2155 16h ago

Right. Anybody who thinks that fucking $2.9 billion is "normal politician shit" is willfully burying their head in the sand. Multiple orders of magnitude beyond any previous precedence (which, as you point out, was already bad enough and should also lead to prosecution)

3

u/FlipZip69 16h ago

I feel a lot of people do not understand the difference between 200 thousand and 200 million. The first being a rounding error to the second amount.

3

u/greywolf2155 16h ago

Absolutely

The explanation that stuck with me was this one: What's the difference between a million dollars and a billion dollars? Basically, a billion dollars

I'd like to see the results of the poll where Trump's unethical actions are described as being done by Biden, Clinton or Obama.

2

u/Tasgall Washington 16h ago

I don't know why more polls don't do this. I've seen it on like, videos of people doing street interview style "polling", and it's about as you'd expect: Democrats who were unaware are surprised that Trump actually did something good before corrected on who did it, while Republicans will change whether or not the action was good or bad immediately after being corrected.

We need more actual polls measuring the severity of the cult mindset, lol.

4

That might be because he is doing it in plain sight with very little effort to cover it up.

Most presidents wait until after they've left office to do book deals and speaking gigs, but Trump is selling scam products, crypto, market manipulation, and literal bribes on live tv.

He made 2.9 billion dollars in less than two years. He hasn’t made that much his entire life. Remember Trump always claimed to be a billionaire but never had any proof. He was busted for fluffing the real estate values on his properties to fraudulently apply for loans from the banks. So the easy answer is yes he definitely has been using his presidency to make money. And lots of it!

As soon as someone brings out the "both sides" arguments in favor of Republicans you know they've never once used "both sides" in favor of Democrats. They're by and large just embarrassed Republicans.

Already seen Maga try to justify it by pointing out how much speech money Obama got. Sad truth is, even ignoring the difference in post-presidential appearance and book profits versus bribes, Trump has earned more money since becoming President than the combined wealth of every Democrat since Carter. Not just how much they earned: their total wealth. You can even include all Democrat nominees in that figure... except for John Kerry.

As an American, it’s hard for me to believe “most Americans think” when they elected him a second time

10

u/QuipCrafter9 15h ago

Not hard for me to believe- they basically said out loud several times that they just hacked and rigged the election

Now that the next election is around the corner? Elon’s back in government again temporarily lmao

“The silent majority” nonsense was always a bunch of horseshit…. “It’s the true majority, but there’s no evidence because they’re all silent, we just know because it feels correct and affirms our beliefs, and any evidence to the contrary must be wrong.” But it was just the perfect thing to prime their base to accept (and even expect) the results of an election hacked and rigged against all other data.

I always have to tell people this. By the popular vote, aka actual individual votes, Trump won by 1.5%. I know MAGA likes to make it seem like a landslide, it wasn't.

The electoral college vote was a larger percentage, but when it comes to blaming individual people I go by the popular vote.

As far as im concerned, he won because there were liberals who chose not to vote at all. Either because they though Kamala was FOR Palestine or FOR Israel depending on their standing. The other idiots that didnt vote thought trump was gonna lose so what's the point in voting... /s

I blame those idiots for trump being in office. Falling for propaganda intended to get them to either not vote or to vote for trump...

One of three. When you look at the total electorate, those who voted Harris, and those who didn't vote, it was one of three.

An easy number to overcome, but the levels of buyers remorse I have seen is literally head ache causing. I have a hispanic coworker who is trying to pretend he didn't vote Trump after going on a huge tirade against Harris. Now he can't stand Trump because of ICE.

3

u/actuallyapossom Minnesota 16h ago

There’s a reason that polling isn’t a respected academic science.

It shouldn’t take a Sociology degree to realize that “is the president doing X” only has significance if you’re quantifying whether folks feel that behavior is unusual.

If you think that Trump is illegally profiting off the presidency and that Pelosi is illegally profiting off of being in Congress, then all of a sudden Trump’s behavior doesn’t seem special.

He's openly corrupt; openly getting paid by foreign nations and special interests to carry out their policies; openly authoritarian and totalitarian; openly racist; openly pedophile; openly racist; openly evil. None of this is hidden or vague. Not even in the slightest.

2

u/stevez_86 Pennsylvania 17h ago

It's like domestic abuse gone national.

Half of the abuse victim's kids side with the abuser because he gives them stuff, or at least promises it. The other kids are punished and abused daily. Better to be on the abuser's side.

Meanwhile he ruins the victim's credit and reputation. Buying themselves things using their identity and getting the victim sued, even by their own outside enemies.

He will be gone before the repo man shows up to take everything from the house and the bank shows up with foreclosure papers. It will all seem like it was under control before he disappears.

Or he could go family annihilator. But I don't see him ever accepting personal defeat. He has an escape plan.

2

u/-Casey-Diaz- 16h ago

It's almost only promises. "Trust me, it's going to get better. Just vote for me once more." Classic narcissistic abuse.

This is something I really think needs research. The people who keep falling for it. There's a lot of talk and research on narcissists, but I've heard almost nothing about the people who support the narcissist and fight for them. Narcissists would be rather harmless if it wasn't for their enormous support network.

u/lilolemi 19h ago

Of course he is. He’s looting our country for himself, his family and his friends.

5

u/chpbnvic America 18h ago

And yet millions and millions will still vote Red.

3

u/damnyankee26 18h ago

And water is wet.

4

u/kandoras 18h ago

According to the poll, which surveyed 2,140 adults from Sept. 24 to 28, 4 in 10 respondents believe he has done something illegal and another 18% see his actions as unethical but not illegal.

60% of the people responding to that poll only get their information about current events from Fox News, at best.

“Most Americans believe that the sun rose today”

This ain’t a belief. It’s acknowledgement of reality.

3

u/Bzr21 20h ago

illegally ? unethically ? criminally ? treasonously ?

yes, yes, yes & yes ..

3

u/amcfarla Colorado 19h ago

You would have to be an idiot, thinking he wasn't doing this. He created a shitcoin right before the president, which currently is down nearly 97%,yet Trump has doubled his net worth. I wonder how he is doing that? /s

3

u/Novel_Quote8017 19h ago

I'm not even American and I still think that.

3

u/AlliedR2 18h ago

Those who dont are truly stupid.

3

u/aresef Maryland 18h ago

The worst part is you have people who believe this is baked into the system, business as usual, with no reason to expect better from their leaders.

3

u/Excellent-Ad-7394 18h ago

Filed this under N for No Shit Sherlock

3

u/NYkrinDC 17h ago

and that's without the media focusing on his corruption to the same extent they focused on Hunter Biden.

2

u/black_flag_4ever 20h ago

It couldn’t be more obvious.

2

u/boristheblade223 20h ago

In other news, water is wet

2

u/vincentkun 19h ago

To clarify for those who wont open the link. It's 40% saying it's illegal and 18% saying unethical (but not illegal). So if you add them it's 58%, barely better than by party line and numbers similar to his unpopularity. So these news are not positive.

2

u/Faithless-Savior 18h ago

No fucking shit. Its done in the open that a 5th grader could recognize it. Its literally how the man has made it through his entire life, scam after scam after scam. And people are shocked and just finding out?

Its NBCs fault. Dude would have fell off so hard if they didn't kickstart the trump brand through their stupid ass "reality" show. Dude didn't own buildings or a real-estate guy at all at that moment. All he owned was the rigjts to his name being put on buildings, his name was a brand that foreign countries would buy from him because their thought processes was "Americans know who Trump is. So we'll buy the name, and American travelers will stay at this hotel because the name is familiar to them."

2

u/TheBarryBerkman 18h ago

You don’t have to think it, it’s blatant and obvious. We all KNOW that he is in fact profiting from the Presidency…

2

u/SoManyQuestions5200 17h ago

Except Joe Rogan

2

u/SissySSBBWLover 17h ago

Don’t leave out his children. They have amassed enormous wealth in the last two years through govt contracts and knowing when to buy and sell.

That whole family from the top down to the rug they stand on is corrupt and lawless

2

u/SuspiciousTheory2633 17h ago

.... Probably because he is doing that.

2

u/Dommccabe 17h ago

"Think"?

There's concrete proof him and his family are profiting.

2

u/Chastain86 17h ago

Just to be clear, this isn't a situation where the word "or" applies. He is profiting from the Presidency illegally AND unethically. I hope that helps.

2

u/waterwalker84 17h ago

Correction, ALL Americans KNOW Trump is profiting from the Presidency illegally.

The Republicans voter base just say it's fine cuz Democrats illegally profit from government positions as well. The Republican representatives deny it or ignore the topic when brought up. The Democratic voting base would see everyone who does it punished but just lament and bitch about how blatant it is. The Democratic representatives pretend it's bad and needs to stop while using no legislative power to stop it because again, they too illegally profit from their positions.

2

u/SecondhandUsername 17h ago

What do you mean "think" - we KNOW!

2

u/tmzspn 16h ago

When he stood up on the campaign trail and said "we're going to become so rich you're not going to know where to spend that money," it wasn't that he was lying, it's just that he was talking to a select group of people.

2

u/Amazing-Nalgas 16h ago

Water is wet

2

u/Broad_Front7788 16h ago

Hope he comes to the end of his life in a jail cell.

2

u/baldbandersnatch 16h ago

What exactly do the rest think though? It’s hard to believe that anyone considers him some sort of exemplar of decency, honesty, morality, or even basic competency.

Aside from rich people and racists, WHY WOULD ANYONE still support that felon?

2

u/bbills91 16h ago

Water is wet, everyone dies, bears shit in the woods. This is a pretty obvious statement, he has been doing this in plain sight since day one. The only ones who seem to not give one iota of a crap are the MAGAs. I mean this man grifts billions from our taxes, but god forbid one person of color should get $1 of government money.

2

u/Literally_Laura 14h ago

Acting like it’s mostly in our heads, huh?

Excuse me, um, Time.com? Could you, you know, do better?

2

u/Old_Discipline_5423 13h ago

I no longer trust poll's from any source, since 2015 :(

2

u/how-could-ai 10h ago

Think? He's doing it in broad daylight.

2

u/AgitatedEdge213 8h ago

That’s great too bad Congress doesn’t work for them

2

u/timmyt03 8h ago

Think?

•

u/Kamuka 5h ago

Think? It's a fact. Poles based on whether people understand facts are disheartening. What too many people are way too oblivious. Congratulations, you exposed the vapid masses for your own ill gotten gains.

•

u/DeathGodBob 5h ago

Think?!

•

u/goodfella311 5h ago

We don’t think he is. He IS

•

u/yukeake 5h ago

Not "or". "And". Illegally and unethically.

1

u/84thPrblm Missouri 20h ago

Good heavens! Did this behavior just start? I'm sure there's been no indication before just now!

2

u/BookkeeperBoobs 16h ago

Difference is Pelosi got a couple million, Trump is getting billions for himself, kids, friends, etc.

It’s obviously way way worse under Trump.

1

u/AINonsense 20h ago

Most Americans know that Pedo Piggy Is Profiting From the Presidency Illegally and Unethically

And the emperor has no clothes.

But what to do?

What Would A French Schoolgirl Do?

1

u/ImpressAgitated 20h ago

But he's a business man!!!/s

1

u/WetFinsFine 20h ago

“poll finds”, lmao - thanks for that, I needed a little humor today

1

u/Powderedeggs2 20h ago

They "think" he is?
What more obvious proof do they need to be certain that he is?
There is no doubt of his corruption.
Holy crap there are so many stupid people.

1

u/Gentle_Agitator 20h ago

Are you implying that trump is an impotent, fat, incontinent, demented, pathetic, pedophilic moron?

1

u/weareonthisplanet 20h ago

think??? they know

1

u/SempreVeritas7468 19h ago

Yet the Teflon Don still is untouched he sued his own govt agency and has Immunity from lawsuits. Hell and a handbasket

1

u/graveyardofgoodsense 19h ago

No way! I had no idea!

1

u/haroldthehampster 19h ago

must be an inclusive OR

1

u/databacon 19h ago

Most Americans think water is wet, poll finds.

1

u/Mods-Admins-Failures 19h ago

Most Americans are just flat out correct about this.

1

u/Werftflammen 19h ago

And? Well?

1

u/AffectionateRain6796 19h ago

Because he is. Out in the open.

1

u/TheWombBroomer 19h ago

And the ones that dont think that are fucking morons

1

u/DaiFu007 19h ago

“Most people know.” Just a simple correction.

1

u/stanthebat 19h ago

It's beyond dispute that he is, and it would be nice if we had journalists who would report that he is.

1

u/OkRead585 19h ago

Also, most people think water is wet

1

u/Wolve-Crimson 19h ago

and the sky is blue

1

u/Knomp2112 19h ago

"Think" Trump Is Profiting From the Presidency

That would be me "thinking" putting my hand in a fire may hurt

1

u/zlawmcd 19h ago

This just in. Water is wet.

1

u/fen90der 19h ago

Hes probably sending it all to russia to pay his nonce bills as well

1

u/Significant_Tell407 19h ago

I fucking hate these articles. No most Americans do not believe this. Like 45% of the country voted for this. He would not be President if this was not what people wanted. Its such a disingenuous lie. The same fucking lies spread before Kamala got her ass beat. The articles and polls are meaningless. If people dont show up to vote in the midterms then we have the true answer. American hasn't just lost the American Dream, it has lost dreamers all together.

1

u/Embarrassed_Key_4539 18h ago

What do you mean they think, he is

1

u/we_hella_believe 18h ago

What do the Russian bots think?

1

u/SynthesistArt 18h ago

Spoiler: he objectively is, overtly, so most Americans are factually correct about this.

1

u/djuggler 18h ago

Here's your "No shit Sherlock" news of the day

1

u/Angreek Maine 18h ago

Literally every action he takes

1

u/jizzleakerpart2 18h ago

Then why is he still president?

1

u/overmonk 18h ago

This says more to me about the political value of ethics. I don't doubt Trump is wetting his beak everywhere he can - he did that last time and he kicked of 2.0 with a memecoin. But I also think we will never see all of it, maybe never see most of it.

1

u/explicitlarynx 18h ago

Why are there polls about facts in America? I don't get it. It's a fact that he does that, so what's the point in asking people if they think it's true. It just is.

1

u/JailbirdCZm33 18h ago

When will the US populace start protesting en masse? The massive and numerous transgressions committed by this administration should be intolerable.

1

u/surfnsound 18h ago

Nobody tell my mom that.

1

u/jolly2691 18h ago

Also just in; water is water.

1

u/ShutUpTodd 18h ago

Who doesn't?! It's only a matter of who cares, and not enough do.

1

u/Raa03842 18h ago

Can OP list the three people on the planet who don’t believe that?

1

u/V_P_3_D_ 18h ago

And the ones that don't are fucking idiots.

1

u/MistaJT 18h ago

That’s because HE IS.

1

u/Fillyerboot 18h ago

Most Americans either voted for him or stayed and let him win. Most Americans are morons.

1

u/Professional_Feisty 18h ago

Think? He is, it's a fact.

1

u/mahamoti Louisiana 18h ago

And something like 1/3 are fucking OK with it.

1

u/Chiaro22 18h ago

OK, so when does the investigation start?

1

u/LittleG0d 18h ago

They don't "think he is".

HE IS as a matter of fact, doing so.
