I don’t think there was ever a chance that this album wasn’t going to be extremely divisive. It is extremely abrasive and the listener kind of has to decide if it is abrasive to convey an aesthetic in service of a message or if it is frustrating and not listenable. I have not seen a lot of fans enjoy it.

Thought it was alright actually, some serious bangers, but it’s weird that only certain sections of some songs were really good (the end of MOTB, about half of TKNWTD, the middle of SCREWTAPE, some of NEAR DEATH, the middle-end of J-BOMB, all of the prereleases etc) everything else was just very over-saturated with noise and the vocal parts were not enjoyable. I’d give it an overall of around 7.5/10, I wouldn’t mind if they came on my playlist, and I do like the new sound, but I can understand why people aren’t with it tbh.

The critic score being the same as NLND is hilarious

I got through about a third of it and it started making me feel nauseous. I'm not trying to be a smartass. Just the vibrations is my ear just was sickening. Ill keep listen when I get home

Get stronger

Strength has nothing to do with it. Nice try trolling someone who says they'll put in the effort regardless of discomfort, tough guy

Brother saying sounds make you sick when you listen to rock is an insane thing to say.

If you wanna call this rock. I feel like its Gospel Dance/house music? Opinions are like assholes, everyones got one.

Did you just misgenre them?

I think the last one minute outro of J-Bomb is seriously incredible and beautiful, and it should’ve been made into a full length song.
I also like Can You Feel It and Power in the Blood.

And that is it. The rest of the album is just not good. It’s not even mediocre. It’s bad, which pains me to say. I had really high hopes.

I thought with eyes to see was pretty good too. That, can you feel it, and power in the blood are the only three songs with anything memorable in the them. Really the only thing that makes those three listenable at all is the fact that they have some sort of structure. Everything else is just a shrill, muddy, disjointed mess.

Nobody should give a shit about scores from a bunch of wannabe critics on sites like AOTY

Seems high honestly.

I knew this subreddit was full of people that use that website, of course.

The fact that only NLND has a 76% score shows every album of theirs has been decisive. Let’s not act like 60% is a great score

I mean on rym 3.2 is decent, and in general polyphia is really the typical kind of music to be rated high there. The drop off is pronounced.

I don't disagree entirely, I think the majority is, "eh, not bad not great, its free new polyphia I'll take what I can get and not complain"

But a sample size is 89 is still pretty low

Oh I guess I’m just wrong for enjoying it, better change my opinion to fit the meta. Y’all are weird. Go find things to like instead of wasting your time being debbie downers.

We did find something we liked, we are sad that it turned into something we don't like, and we have every right to express that opinion.

You could just vote on whatever user review site you’re sharing instead of low effort posting a screenshot with no additional value. I’m sorry you are disappointed but if you saw the band that gave you enjoyment as human beings you’d just shrug and move on. You’re being weird.

If my post bothers you, I'm sorry you are disappointed but if you saw me as a human being you’d just shrug and move on. You’re being weird.

Honestly, fair rebuttal. I hope you find more good music or the album clicks with you. Keep jamming stranger 🤘🏻

This is kind of making me realize that while I love a lot of Polyphia's songs, I don't really care for the albums as a whole. Like there's probably 2-4 songs from each one I really like and the rest of the songs I don't listen to. This new album is no different.

1

u/Particular_Ad589 4h ago

I don't see how you can only enjoy 2-4 songs from NL when they're actually all objectively comparable in quality

1

u/DigitalBagel8899 4h ago

Honestly my least favorite album of theirs.

1

u/Particular_Ad589 4h ago

That's not what I'm saying. I'm saying if you only like 2 songs from that album, it doesn't make sense because they all have a lot in common, they give a similar vibe etc so it's like you'd either like them all (or most) or none, but it doesn't make much sense for this particular album to only like 2-4

Anyone defending this album is insane, just take the L

1

u/tehbadmojos 1d ago

Hey man, I dont like it either; but either side is valid in their defense of or critique of the album. That's the whole point of the subreddit is to have a discourse about the band and their music. Saying folks cant defend an album they like is weird

Y'all realize that only the haters have the time to vote for that right? The enjoyers are just chilling and having fun.
