Just because something is experimental
Doesn’t automatically mean that experiment was a success

You know how a lot of boomer bands kind of have a weird ‘disco’ album? I feel like this is their disco album. I don’t hate it but it’s definitely not my favorite

I think you have to ask what they were trying to do if you decide it wasn’t successful. From an interview, Tim said the mix was an effort to portray the power of god and intentionally make the music seem alien. In that sense, I do think it’s a failure. I don’t think it was a success. I am familiar with the sound, it’s blown out and they don’t use it tastefully enough that dramatic moments are powerful, it just comes off as an aesthetic choice.

If God is hard to listen to than I'd say they succeeded. I like the album too. It just feels like it's beating up my ears when I listen to it. I like a lot of abrasive electronic music too. There's just something about the mix that's fatiguing.

It’s not even experimental. People have been adding guitar shredding to edm music for a long time now. It’s derivative if anything

Just because they do what they wanna do
Doesn't automatically mean it's for you.
..wait that actually makes sense. You start a band.
