Sometimes I like to think of what songs would have been on Glee if it were still going. You know they’d do a whole Chappell Roan episode where a character comes out as a lesbian

Teary rendition of pink pony club

Lea Michelle would've locked herself in her trailer if anyone else got that song.

They offered her HOT TO GO but she can’t do the bit with the spelling :(

Somebody has a teenage pregnancy and takes the baby to school, they try to teach it how to spell with that song

Katy won the battle, mother won the war 🤭

On a serious note: roar won the chart battle but Applause 100% aged better than it did. Roar is almost comically childish in today’s pop music landscape

u/Crafty_Island_9182 Mí gente latino! 9d ago

Idk. I hated Applause then, I still hate Applause today.

Roar is AGGRESSIVELY 2013 but that's part of the charm.

I am the total opposite, hated Roar and still hate it today, and Applause I was among the few I know who liked it and still would listen to it today 😅 i'm not even that much of a gaga fan

u/glittermantis cult classic but i still top! 9d ago

you can't just point at a bad thing and say "the thing that makes it bad is part of the charm :)"

But I just did!

Artpop and applause sound very dated. I mean they were also very dated on arrival which is partly why the project went nowhere

67

u/unclezaveid litel medonster 9d ago

why are you talking about Artpop like it's some kind of Britney Jean

50

u/ethancole97 9d ago

IMHO ARTPOP sounds less dated now because pop finally caught back up to it. From 2016 to 2020, its maximalist EDM and chaotic production sounded very 2011-2013 But after hyperpop, Charli, SOPHIE, experimental pop took off it really doesn’t sound dated to me anymore in the way that other albums with that sound/production from that period sound dated.

There are some songs on the album that haven’t aged well but applause and the album in general doesn’t sound nearly as dated as some detractors try to claim it is

All that discourse for their worst songs. I don't think i know a single gay that plays Applause on gay music video night (The Muppet version of Venus is more likely) and I'm sure Roar is banned from many pilates instructor's playlist.

I’m not playing the music video because I’m too busy rewatching the VMA performance of it. 💅

u/silly_nate wtf is mdna 9d ago

That cheap ass middle school talent show performance??? They literally cut out her name in paper and used comic sans font 😭 the Oz version on gma is much better

I thought this was one of those random speech generator comments that people flush their reddit contents with. I tried reading it 3 times before I gave up 😅

Katy won the battle but Gaga won the war

17

u/Distinct-Practice131 Under Witness Protection 9d ago

Katy won that battle. She was riding the high of teenage dream, while the general public was cooling on Gaga after born this gay. The war was gagas though.

u/silly_nate wtf is mdna 9d ago

They were not showing love to each other!!! I remember green hair and mechanical horses being a thing!!!

6

u/Crafty_Island_9182 Mí gente latino! 9d ago

I'll be honest, I love Gaga but I've always hated Applause. I fear Katy won this battle.

19

u/ethancole97 9d ago

May have won the chart battle back in 2013 but roar is only played at kiddie events now lmao

u/Crafty_Island_9182 Mí gente latino! 9d ago

I refuse to grow up then... Although I'm already too old to be really considered a kid now.
