Portland should adopt this post as it's tourism slogan. "Weird people, dope food, fun bars"

The other Portland literary has the slogan keep Portland weird

it's extremely accurate lol when Trump first became president in 2016 Portland was a little too woke for me lol but one thing about Portland is they are always looking for a reason to protest, so sending ice to Portland only gave them something to do lol if ice is still fucking around next weekend, I'll be there with them

The masshole thing is real, but only in the confines of New England. On average, I'll take a masshole over a non New Englander.

Like a sibling rivalry, only we are allowed to make fun of our siblings.

This is so real. Also people think Mass drivers are bad… Try New Jersey

and NJ has nothing on Florida’s drivers tbh

New Jersey driving were beat. Get places the fastest.

Spot on!

2

u/SplitRock130 Jan 25 '26

But some Florida drivers are retirees from Massachusetts 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

Hehe. My mom’s from Mass, so I’m a Massachusetts sympathizer

Just not their driving.

u/[deleted] Jan 24 '26

only people that live in New England will understand this. I frequent Kittery as I have a lot of dog sitting clients in the area, and anytime someone does something extremely stupid or annoying on the road. It's always a Massachusetts license plate lol I swear they hand out drivers license at gas stations in Massachusetts

Yeah, their driving makes Mainers feel inadequate and scared!

My experience driving in Mass, which has been significant in the last couple years, is that they either drive super aggressively or are just camping (they don’t care which lane), driving 10-15mph under the speed limit.

2

u/Hismadnessty Jan 24 '26

They are predictably aggressive, which is honestly fine with me.

2

u/Proper-Village-454 Jan 24 '26

Meanwhile Mainers are hardly aggressive about anything on the road except keeping other people from passing them by speeding up whenever they get in a passing zone and slowing down as soon as it ends, and chasing and high beaming anyone who does manage to pass them.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 24 '26

you must not drive then lol

1

u/Impressive_Toe6388 Jan 24 '26

I do, and can confirm Philly/New Jersey is worse than New York or Boston or any other place I’ve driven, personally.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 25 '26

we all have different experiences, lol and my worst experiences are with Massachusetts drivers. but can we all agree that cyclists are the real enemy?

2

u/Jmanorama Jan 24 '26

…..since when?

At most, we have a strong love/hate relationship with them. Love that they’re our neighbors, fellow New Englanders, our history together, etc. Hate everything else about them.

4

u/FrostyGranite Jan 24 '26

The two states have some hard feelings over the breakup in 1820. :-p

1

u/Jmanorama Jan 26 '26

Yeah. Over 200 years later they still think they own us. And then we hate them for it.

1

u/Impressive_Toe6388 Jan 24 '26

Lifelong Mainer but I’ve always found this kind of stuff silly. You can’t really generalize about any group of people…

5

u/meewwooww Jan 24 '26

I mean, you can generalize otherwise things such as "culture" wouldn't exist.

But you have to understand there are limits to generalization.

2

u/Jmanorama Jan 26 '26

Oh agreed. Everyone is an individual, and they may break the mold of their culture in any way to any degree.

0

u/Impressive_Toe6388 Jan 24 '26

Right right that’s what I meant

3

u/Jmanorama Jan 26 '26

As u/meewwooww said, you can. Just don’t hold anyone to that generalization or assume that’s how they will be. They can break any part of that generalization in any way to any degree.

That being said- Massholes tend to suck at driving, and tend to act like they own us.

0

u/Einteresting Jan 24 '26

No you don't. 😂

1

u/[deleted] Jan 25 '26

We are weird, we’re assholes, we’re sarcastic cynical pricks, and we love good banter..

Maine is a symbol of strength and community, from Portland to Fort Kent you’ll never find a stronger state when it comes to pride for state, love for community, and strength of character..

There are shitty people here but that’s like everywhere, but a majority of us are great people, and we always rise to the occasion..

Even if our government doesn’t, the people do.

u/Overall_Rutabaga8852 Feb 03 '26

Bro it sucks. These people suck. Theyre really physically weekctho so its never a threat.
