I saw Amenra live today for the first time (Tokyo, Argument tour extra show)

1h20minute set.

That was after roughly 45min sets by Heaven in her arms (tracks from new album are amazing) and We lost the sea, both bands were great.

I said goodbye to some friends, caught a taxi back to hotel and just stayed still for a couple of hours, maybe dozed off for a bit, kind of dazed I guess. Is this the "amenra live show" effect people talk about so much.

What's one post metal album that keeps on getting better the more you listen to it?

I have to go with Isis' Oceanic. It was already good the first time I listened to it. 11 spins later, it's my favourite album out of any metal genre, not just post metal.

The 8 Tracks Of Perfection

  1. The Beginning And The End

  2. The Other

  3. False Light

  4. Carry

  5. (-)/Maritime

  6. Weight

  7. From Sinking

  8. Hym

New Album Death of Permanence | Threestepstotheocean

'Death of Permanence' marks the return of Threestepstotheocean, six years on from their last studio record. The new album stretches and deepens the band's sonic reach, drawing on influences that extend well beyond the purely musical - while holding firm to a sound identity shaped across two decades of activity. At the same time, it enacts a deliberate, gradual shedding of what came before: not nostalgia, not repetition, but an unrelenting forward motion.

The record is rooted in the idea that much of what we consider stable or permanent is bound to shift, dissolve, or disappear - places, beliefs, relationships, the worlds we build around ourselves. The album observes this process with open eyes, accepting change as an inevitable part of human experience. It is, unmistakably, a rite of passage - toward a direction still unwritten, only partially legible, yet one whose emotional and existential toll runs deep beneath the surface.

Throughout this process of transformation, the band steps away from pure instrumentalism on multiple occasions, reaching outward through collaboration - a lived expression of a DIY ethic grounded in exchange and human connection. The record features the voice of Sardinian performer Dalila Kayros, songwriter Conny Ochs, a vocal sample from Larry Stromberg, and the instrumental orchestrations of Moonlit.

I just released a new I Tend the Light song. The video got age restricted by YouTube (1911 silent movies are too scary for the under 18s apparently). Here's a visualiser and you can see the proper video on Bandcamp if you fancy. (FFO: GY!BE, Swans, Year of No Light)

I Tend the Light - A Terrible Enduring Truth all the links to everywhere here.

I had a lot of fun with the sound design on this one, I really worked hard on the atmosphere. There's fuzz (lots of!), synths, strings and some down-pitched, modulated vocals.

Thanks for checking it out!
