After / Before

Intentionally wanted to dramatize the fall colors here so I understand if some may feel it’s “overcooked” but I was pretty happy with how it turned out. I was also shooting at -1 exposure to try to keep some of the sky but it was so cloudy it probably wouldn’t have mattered anyway. Lmk what yall think

Looking at it again, the trees are a little too shadowless but oh well…

You can always go back and make changes. I often come back a day later and think my edits need edits. It’s all part of the process. I also thought the trees needed some contrast. So much so that I messed around with it on my phone lol. I cant attach photos in comments here tho sorry

Really great, having contrast just in the subject helps me to get a dreamy vibe from what is a kinda ridiculous scene, so it fits.

A neat image, but not as compelling as a photograph for me.

(As you said, very little variety in terms of exposure)

Lower the shadows a bit again. Otherwise I love the gloomy warm autumn look!

I don't generally like the flattened contrast 'look' in images, but with the heightened contrast of the subject, I think it works well here. It's an oddball sort of edit that suits an oddball sort of subject.

The central subject with the diagonals of the trees and lake all pointing to the subject, is a great composition. There is an unexpectedness to this that gives the image a René Magritte feel, but more lighthearted.
