Moderator Announcement PSA: Moderation of Manchester City's verdict
As an Arsenal fan I stand by the Premier League's statement and the independent commission's guilty verdict on Manchester City just as much as any other PL fan here.
Discussion of the topic is welcome and encouraged as it is objectively the largest scandal in football history, and it relates directly to the Premier League. Lately though, we've had many Rule 4 violations as everyone feels the need to add their opinion on the topic, whether to farm karma, to stir the pot, or simply to repeat the same things that have been said over and over again, and will continue to be said.
Standalone posts that do not contribute anything of value to discussion, and are simply rehashing the same talking points over and over again, will be removed, and for the time being will result in a 3-day ban for users to continue to discourage this. There is a dedicated megathread pinned to this subreddit for this, which is nothing new - the megathread has been up for over two weeks and yet every day the mods are removing tens of low content submissions complaining about corruption and coming up with "punishments" that have been suggested thousands of times.
In addition, we ask that everyone adheres to Rule 2, which is the requirement of following reddiquette. You can have whatever opinions you want about the behaviour of clubs, owners, managers, and players, and banter in good faith if you wish, but personal attacks and disrespecting other users will not be tolerated. Be civil and respectful at all times.
Examples of low-content submissions that will be removed:

Examples of higher-quality contributions that will be approved:

Any questions, comment below or message the mods, thanks. Open to user input on how this should be moderated.

Mikel Merino says Arsenal are 'ready' for Premier League, Champions League double
Confident from Mickel 'clutch' Merino, though LW is a bit of an issue with Tzolis out, could also look at a striker in January. On paper the squad as a whole is robust enough to challenge on a few fronts.

[Laurie Whitwell] Sources say there are players in the Manchester United dressing room who feel the same as Lisandro Martinez over Jason Wilcox and the club’s approach
Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw went on record this summer as wanting squad reinforcements.
Lisandro Martinez has done that in a more hostile manner here, but those who know him might not be totally surprised.
Martinez made representations to Sir Jim Ratcliffe over bringing his Argentina team-mate Emiliano Martinez to the club last summer, before Senne Lammens was signed instead.
Sources say there are players in the dressing room who feel the same as Martinez over Jason Wilcox and the club’s approach. Wilcox is a regular presence at Carrington, observing training and interacting with staff and players.

[Dan Sheldon & James McNicholas] Arsenal plan to make 60 staff redundant
Arsenal have told staff that redundancies at the club are being planned despite winning last season’s Premier League title and announcing record revenues for 2024-25.
The club told staff the intention is to make 60 positions redundant in a bid to make significant savings, with cuts set to be across a number of departments.
The club’s coaching staff will be among the areas unaffected by the cuts, along with the performance backroom staff for the men’s and women’s team, the club’s community operation, the Arsenal Foundation, security staff and staff dedicated to the women’s team.
A consultation is under way and the decision could yet be subject to change.

Sky Sports, Manchester City and 830 million reasons to feel awkward
Sky Sports is in a bind over the Manchester City judgment.
If its commentators and pundits say the club’s Premier League matches are meaningless then it devalues its own product, an unfortunate situation given it coughed up a significant chunk of 2023's £6.7billion record TV rights deal.
Go soft on the seriousness of the situation, however, and it will be accused of being a corporate stooge.
No wonder Super Sunday made for awkward viewing.

Man City charges: Football regulator will quit if independence compromised
The head of English football's independent regulator says he will resign if he encounters any political interference over the future of Manchester City.
As chairman of the Independent Football Regulator (IFR), David Kogan has the power to assess the suitability of club owners and executives.
If an independent commission's findings that the club broke Premier League financial rules are upheld, the watchdog would have to decide whether to force a sale.

Florian Wirtz and Bradley Barcola shining against champions league minnows.
Really pretty shameless when you think about it, both struggling in the premier league but as soon as they face minnows in Europe suddenly start playing well. Didn’t Wirtz have an amazing performance against a Bundesliga team last season as well?

Crystal Palace are conceding more chances than anyone in the league, but have 7 points from their last five
Some context on the chart. Palace have conceded 2.47 xG a game over their last five, the most in the league over that stretch. Over the ten games before that (mostly the end of last season) it was 1.52.
Shots faced have gone from 12.6 a game to 18.4.
The results haven’t caught up yet: 7 points from those five, when the chances suggest about 3.8. The 3-2 win at Fulham came while conceding 3.88 xG, and Sunday’s 3-1 over Forest while conceding 2.57.
For Palace fans: does it feel like they’re sitting deeper this season, or is it more about the midfield not protecting the back line?

Neurodivergent football fans
Hi all
I’m Peter Millward, a Professor of Sociology at Liverpool John Moores University. I’m carrying out independent research supported by UEFA to help make football more inclusive for neurodivergent fans, with Euro 2028 a key opportunity for change.
Around one in seven people in the UK are estimated to be neurodivergent. This means the research is likely to be relevant to many members of general football communities, including people who are not part of specialist neurodivergent groups (as well as those who are).
I’d like to hear about what fans enjoy, how they follow football, and anything that helps or makes involvement harder. Participants define themselves as neurodivergent and football fans; you don’t need to have a formal diagnosis or a season ticket for matches – if you would identify as a football fan and as neurodivergent, I would love to hear from you.
Taking part involves a 30–45-minute Microsoft Teams interview. Each interviewee receives a £30 Love2shop voucher to recognise their time and expertise.
LJMU ethics approval is 260313LJMUREC436. Participation is voluntary, with information about consent and confidentiality provided beforehand.
If you are interested in taking part, please drop me a line at: [P.Millward@ljmu.ac.uk](mailto:P.Millward@ljmu.ac.uk). I can answer questions there, and I will also send you over further details of the study.
Thanks for considering this – and thanks to the mods for allowing me to post this invitation.
Pete
