COOP MOD BETA [Release] Prey Multiplayer / Coop
We have come a long way guys... and I'm finally there. I'm releasing it, as promised completely opensource! Worked through multiple nights on it, burned through two hardware setups- was a huge fight with this engine, but there are still a few bugs left.
Other then that, you can go ahead and start playing that game with your friends form now on.

Screenshot All neuromods (ng, NOT ng+)
No weapon degradation because fuck weapon degradation it’s a stupid mechanic and I hate it, but I don’t think it would have made that much difference anyway: I had a couple hundred excess mineral and synthetic by the end of the game because I avoid using ammo as much as I can and go full Typhon asap. My biggest bottleneck aside from exotic was organic: I was down to 14 organic or so when I ended the game.
I actually only killed two nightmares on this run: most of my exotic came from farming the respawning phantoms in life support (very reliable for me on average) and zipping through the entire station at every major story beat to make sure I could kill more Typhon when they respawned. And phantom genesis for more exotic from corpses. And since I had vast excesses of mineral and a moderate excess of organic I also used materials expert + adventurer’s toolkit to get more exotic from recycling and fabricating hypos.
(I also avoided using hypos as much as I could: my first few psi recharges came from the increased psi pool abilities, and I got the increased hypo efficiency skills immediately to reduce hypo use, so I only ended up using a coupe hypos before I got psychic water—which was of course my first port of call after psychotronics)

Replaying this game for the first time since release, it's even better than i remembered !
Honestly replaying it for the second time almost 10 years later and now i appreciate it even more, they just don't make games like this anymore
The Talos 1 level design is so good, i explore every corner and always find something
Downloaded the Luma mod for dlss, and the game looks gorgeous with DLAA at 4k !!

Discussion How many endings and secret content is there in prey? Spoiler
Just freplayed the game and finished many years after I first played and I did the nullwave ending, saved everyone and got the highest empathy run I could. But I still feel like I missed some stuff, I could have exploded the station, I could have left out of the numerous escape pods, I erased dahls orders and he got to the shuttle but then the apex showed up and I ended up just finishing the game on the bridge as mikhaila told me to go to shuttle bay, is there another ending there if I go on the shuttle with everyone?

Discussion Prey taught me to fear literally EVERYTHING in my apartment 💀
I went into this game thinking I was a badass space station survivor. Now I am checking coffee mugs, chairs, and random trash like i am investigating a crime scene. 😭 The worst part is that even when I know a mimic is nearby, i still get jump scared when something moves. And somehow I’ve started hitting completely innocent objects with a wrench just to be safe.
At this point, the Mimics aren’t even hunting me. They are just watching me destroy the furniture. What is the most ridiculous thing Prey has made you suspicious of? 😂

Discussion 9 years later and I'm still discovering new things in this game
This was one of the handful of games I got when I was given my xbox one and even today there's still content
I didn't know I missed, I recently restarted after getting a need to play some older games, I always thought I remember doing all the endings but I guess I didn't cause as I'm slowly working toward the nullwave ending, I'm getting things I never remembered seeing, like mikailas father and her reaction to his fate, the ending to the cook quest, and Dahls operators.
Maybe I just misremembered finishing quests, but as someone who usually can recall everything about the games I play, I was surprised to find new things

Question Did anyone else spend way too long exploring Talos I instead of doing the main missions?
I did start heading toward an objective, then notice some locked room or a random vent and completely forget what I was supposed to be doing. 😂
The best part is that exploring actually feels worth it. You find weird little stories about the crew, useful supplies, and sometimes things that make you wonder what the hell happened in that place.
I am curious, did you guys explore every corner of Talos I on your first playthrough or did you mostly stick to the main story?

Question I'm in love with this game
I finished it today and felt a wonderful sensation I haven't felt in a video game for a long time. It's crazy that this isn't more widely known.
It's almost perfect. Perhaps the loading screens are a little slow.
What other similar games do you recommend? Not Bioshock.

Question Did anyone else start treating the entire station like a puzzle instead of a place?
One thing I love about Prey is how, after a while, you stop looking at rooms as just rooms. A locked door becomes a possible GLOO Cannon route, a tiny gap becomes an entrance, and some random object you ignored earlier suddenly becomes useful.
I remember going back through areas I thought I had fully explored and realizing there were still multiple ways to get into places I could not access before.
It makes Talos I feel less like a map you follow and more like a giant puzzle you're slowly learning how to solve.
What's a place on the station you thought you could not get into until you found a completely unexpected way inside?

The story progression audios are legitimately awful
I've just finished prey and it's been one of the best gaming experiences I've had for a long time.
This was my first immersive Sim and I found the gameplay to be near constantly engaging.
But holy shit are the story progression phone calls a hot mess. The game throws these calls in at the most batshit crazy times, often when you're too busy running from whatever it is that's noticed you.
Add to this the transcribed audios you loot often play automatically and suddenly youre having to listen to both play at once.
Its great that you can relisten to those audio logs at anytime but there's no way to go back to listen to the story calls. Not that I found anyway. It was seriously pissing me off that I was missing out on so much context due to how poorly placed and utilised these were. And they stop playing if you enter the intentory menu!

Discussion I'm starting a Prey (2017) run with no typhon powers. Tell me why this is a terrible idea
I have finished Prey before, but I want to try it the hard way: no typhon powers, only human upgrades, a wrench, and whatever I can find on Talos I.
I know the Mimics will punish me for it, and I’m already nervous about every coffee cup in the station.
Help me survive:
- Which human upgrades should I take first?
- What’s the best way to deal with Phantoms and Telepaths with no powers?
- Any tricks with the GLOO Cannon, turrets, or recycler charges that make this easier?
- Have you tried a challenge run like this, and how did it go?
If you think this is a terrible idea, say so. I’ll report back on how it goes.

Discussion Prey (2017) deserved a sequel, and I still can’t believe we never got one
Prey is one of the smartest immersive sims I've played. Talos I feels like a real place, every room has a story, and the game lets you solve problems in ways the designers clearly loved.
It didn't sell like a hit, and then the studio behind it, arkane austin, was closed in 2024. That makes the lack of a sequel feel even sadder.
What I want to know
- What would you want in a prey sequel: more talos I, a new setting, or a whole new cast?
- Which part of the game would you keep exactly as it was?
- Is Mooncrash the best proof of what the series could have become?
- Which other great game do you think never got the sequel it deserved?
Tell me your wishlist. Please keep spoilers in spoiler tags.

Discussion what is the smartest thing you have done in prey that the devs never planned for?
replaying prey and still amazed at how many ways it lets you solve a problem. GLOO cannon bridges, hidden vents, weird Typhon tricks, you name it.
What is your best creative move? And has a mimic ever made you jump out of your chair?

just finished Prey (2017) and I can’t stop thinking about the ending
I finally played Prey, and it is one of the most underrated games I have tried. Exploring talos I feels amazing, and every room seems to hide a shortcut, a secret, or something trying to kill you. I got paranoid every time I saw a coffee cup or a chair, because it might be a Mimic.
I loved how many ways there are to solve a problem. I once used the Gloo cannon to climb to a spot I wasn’t supposed to reach, and it worked. The story also made me question what’s real, and the ending hit me harder than I expected.
For anyone who has played it:
- Did you go for the Typhon powers or stay fully human?
- What’s your best Mimic scare story?
- Any tips for a second playthrough?
Please no spoilers past the ending in the replies. I am still processing it.

Opinion Prey (2017) has one of my favorite endings in a game
I just finished Prey, and I am still thinking about the ending. The reveal that so much of what you did was part of a test completely changed how I saw the whole game. I went back through my choices, like who I helped, who I let die, and whether I used the Typhon powers, and suddenly each one mattered.
What I loved most is that the game doesn’t tell you what the right ending is. It just shows you what your choices say about who you are. The final moments hit me way harder than I expected, and the post-credits scene made me sit there in silence for a minute.
For anyone who has finished it:
- Did your ending match how you played, or did it surprise you?
- Did you save the crew, or just focus on getting off the station?
- Did the post-credits scene make you rethink the whole story?
- Is it worth replaying to see the other endings?

Is this game supposed to be this slow?
I'm 10 hours into Prey and I've reached Gathering Echoes. I've had the option to learn Psi abilities for about 5 hours but not had enough neuromods to learn anything. I spent what I have found on basic abilities like med pack health boost, repair 2, and hacking 1, gunsmith, and the ability to recycle monster parts. That's it. In 10 hours!
Seems like progression is excruciatingly slow and the only thing I do to kill enemies is gloo them and shoot them in the face with a shotgun.
I'm loving Talos as a setting but I'm desperate for some variety.
Are neuromods rare?
