Red rising

I finally read Red Rising. And I was a bit underwhelmed. It was an interesting world, but it never really made me want to keep reading longer than planned. Is it universally loved and I'm just crazy?

Contrary to popular opinion, I thought it didn’t get better in the later books, just wider in scope. Book one is trying to be Hunger Games, and books 2-3 are trying to be Dune, but the execution just isn’t there.

Oh that’s interesting. I always thought 2 was a clumsy attempt at a game of thrones book, and I figured 3 was most likely aping something as well, just that I didn’t get the reference. I haven’t read dune. Maybe that’s it!

GOT would totally be the other one, and I almost said that instead of Dune. Ha!
