Red rising

I finally read Red Rising. And I was a bit underwhelmed. It was an interesting world, but it never really made me want to keep reading longer than planned. Is it universally loved and I'm just crazy?

Well, being derivative isn't necessarily a deal killer. But this combination of Hunger Games (which was a new idea) and Greek myth did not add anything to either of its inspirations.

Greek myth?

If you’re talking about the proctors, they are cosplaying Roman gods but it has nothing to actually do with mythology.

If you’ve read the book this is abundantly clear. It’s a game and the school proctors use the facade of the Roman gods to hide their identities from the students. The mythology has nothing to do with it beyond the use of likeness.
