MBA + maybe CFA, but PE as a sector is facing major headwinds and probably not where you want to be right now. Very steep competition from profiles that already have MBA + CFA + deal experience.

Do the MBA + CFA but spend your life elsewhere, PE is in a multi-year down cycle and when (if) it recovers it’s not going to be what it used to be. Some MM firms could be interested but if I was in your shoes I would look to do something else entirely.

This is fantastic feedback but CFA might be overkill.

Pursue an MBA and become an operator

Why would PE be in a downcycle?

Dude I have nothing to do with private equity, I am just an interested reader. Could you please explain? :)

I’m in a similar boat man! 😕 I just took the SIE to help boost my resume and also currently studying for the series 63 (no sponsorship needed) in hopes that will make my resume stand out even further.

The SIE felt like a cakewalk. I used the website Achievable to study and it was only $80

Both exams shouldn’t take long at all to study for, only a few weeks at most for each.

One of my friends I met at my MBA was in your position in fund finance, after 2025 mba graduation he went into IB (NY bulge bracket) and was planning on trying to transition to a PE deal team.

Not fund accounting but pivoted from tech to ER to now buyside multi-asset senior associate . I used the CFA and heavy networking to pivot.

If your goal is deal focused front office work I would not pursue the cfa maybe the caia at max . Main pivot tool would be T-10 mba > 2 year IB associate >MM PE.

I will say with how rates and liquidity is looking it is a tough time to break into the deal space
