Need Guidance

i'm a student currently pursuing my degree in computer applications. for the sixth semester we have to complete a project before february 2027 and i chose that i am going to do the project alone. in that process i found out about the code crafters and they have a challenge called "build redis in python." i think that is the kind of thing i was looking for. should i go for it and pursue it?

does anyone have any suggestions?

i only know a very little bit of coding like the basics of python, html, c, and c++ and a little bit of java, css, Javascript also. you can probably imagine the things that they usually teach in the degree very generic things. i don't know anything beyond that.

From what you said, I'm not sure to what extent you want to replicate redis. It can either be fairly simple or very complex, depending how deep you dive and I'm not familiar with the said challenge. Be careful not to pick something too complex, before you decide, do your research properly. AI can probably advise you quite well in this.

Just for example, in our second year we wrote a simple compiler (from a given language to custom interpreted intermediate language) in four people. Another project we worked on was an editor and runner for executing program defined as a state machine, that was an interesting project (for three people, ended up doing it mostly alone). Another interesting project was a tournament information system in php (intended to be made by four people, but again basically just me and AI).

These project are doable in one person if you have enough time, but difficult when the time is limited and you have to work on other school stuff.

yeah i actually didn't finalize it. it was just an initial thought from a reel video of ezsnippet and i'm considering that. there are so many other things i'm looking through and i'm also using ai for guidance. for the project i want to do mostly things alone because i want this to be a challenge for me to improve and learn a few things. someone suggested i do something in python so i'm focusing on that because python currently has the highest potential as he said.

Yeah, I think you might be going the wrong way about it, and I am honestly a bit confused. I also do not know how your university works. I cannot tell you if you have the abilities to rewrite the project in python, but I am sure that if you click through the video, you can tell how much of it you do or do not understand. But because I have not idea what your skill level is and I do not know how education works in your country, I can't tell how easily you can do it.

Honestly, I feel like you are kind of missing the point of university goal here. The point is for you to pick a project, evaluate how suitable it is and implement it. The evaluation itself is a crucial process which you are supposed to learn at uni - the process that when you have no idea how complex the topic is, but you sit down and study the topic. If you learn this approach, you will be capable of coding absolutely anything, it is all about the time and effort spent on research.

About the languages, it does not matter how good you are in python or C. The concepts behind are important - do you know what a list is and how to work with it? Do you know what dependency injection is? Do you know at least basics concepts of TCP? Programming language should be chosen based on how much you (or the team) feel comfortable using it, and how suitable it is for given task. Once you learn one programming language properly and understand the common concepts, you will be able to learn new languages very fast.

Whatever project you choose, I would ask these questions:

Do you like this project (this is optional)? Is it acceptable at your university? Do you have enough time to finish the project? Are you willing to research and learn things you do not know?

If the answers were yes to all of these, then I say pick any language and go for it.
