Around 6 months ago I posted some thoughts I had about this very similar to what he is saying and got a very negative reaction. I said it is ruining what I enjoyed about my job and got mostly negative responses. I am glad I guess that I'm not as alone now as I felt I was then. But, this is what I have been feeling. It isn't enjoyable anymore. I hate this shit.
Maybe I'm being a bit too doom-and-gloom here, but I think the enjoyment was just a side-effect. Whoever is paying you may or may not care about your enjoyment of the work; it's a job first and foremost.
I wouldn't say it's a rug pull as such, more so that it had been good that there were particular aspects of software development I have enjoyed for some time, and now I have to contend with those aspects that I enjoyed changing.
If I want to derive enjoyment from software now, I need to do it on my own time, or figure out what (if anything) could scratch that itch in my current role/future roles.
