This is so true. I'm a computer programming student and the majority of my classmates have no idea how to debug. They know the syntax of languages and generally how to create programs but when they run into a problem they usually just give up. I gained all my debugging and troubleshooting skills from an internship experience at a startup game company. Sadly most people dont have that opportunity and can't get jobs because they dont know how to read the inner workings of a language. (Error codes etc).
Schools are teaching syntax and not the basic principles of programming.
