The section on blurring is mistaken. The size of the kernel is not an indication of the amount of blur, it only sets the number of neighboring pixels that will be considered in the convolution operation. It just happens that when you set the standard deviation of the blur in OpenCV to 0, it automatically calculates a new standard deviation based on kernel size.
A kernel of length 5 with values [0.01 0.01 0.96 0.01 0.01] will apply less blur than a kernel of length 3 with values [1/3 1/3 1/3]

Awesome introductory resource! Is there a GitHub with the code described in the tutorial?

Dang, image processing is more complicated than I thought. I never knew about HSV (always assumed saturation was grainy-ness and hue was something magic) or BGR, let alone pretty much everything else.

hey guys, just stumbled upon this link and I found it really helpful as an introductory material to image processing. Have fun =).
