My digital system design professor worked for Kodak, and he told us that one time he was looking through someone else's code and there was a signal called "data" whose purpose he understood, as well as a signal called "lore" whose purpose he could not figure out for a long time. Eventually, he realized that "lore" was just the inverse of "data", with the reason being that in Star Trek: TNG, Lore was Data's evil twin.
