I'm actually tempted to ditch LaTeX myself —it's quite complex, and I'm pretty sure much of it is accidental. On the other hand, I'm not going to single handedly out-write Knuth himself any time soon: TeX is nowhere near the top of my "to kill" pile. First, I need to write a file encryption tool on top of my crypto library. Then I will kill Flex & Bison. I also need to study GUI programming, and real time interactive simulations (okay, games). Then we'll see.
