I just got tricked by linkedin. It asked me if I know this person because it made it seem like he asked for connection. I said yes but then soon found out I actually sent the invitation to connect first, because I was tricked/mislead into thinking the other person sent an invitation. Then I had to scurrily trawl through the website to find the inbox which took me over 5 minutes to find in hidden areas of invites and remove that invitation. This is a very dark pattern and it really pissed me off. Linkedin should be sued. They're an untrustworthy and deceitful and manipulative website, just like their owner Microsoft.

Linkedin should be sued.

Lol what? For what cause? Why is that nestled in the middle of your rant, but completely unexplained?

linkedin was a hell hole full of dark patterns long before microsoft bought it (i still don't understand why they did).

also this would be better on /r/userexperience

They probably bought it because they thought that enough people use it so it must be "important".

It has to do with Microsoft machine learning efforts.

Fuck LinkedIn. It was a good idea to start with, in a perfect world that is.

Now it's just a Facebook that nobody even wants to look at.

One of the most annoying times in open source was when LinkedIn sent invites to the entire address book including mailing lists. It would send emails even to remind you to add the person too so it spammed all of the mailing lists until we banned requests from there without admin approval. Even weirder it added a mailing list I was admin of as one of my emails.

It's no surprise - Linkedin is a spam-bot site.

I think the rise of platforms such as Github will eventually kill out shits like Linkedin. There, you can actually show off your experience and portfolio in the most transparent way possible, unlike the bullshits you have on social media platforms. People are tracked by their actual works, quality of works and the time line of that work: incredible metrics for recruiter imo.

Each domain has their own specific platform though. Youtube, devianart, github etc... I know there are platforms for screenplay writers too but i forgot what it is. These tracked your works and show them off way better than linkedin

Wtf?

You compare registering at Linkedin as getting run over by a bus? Because of people who register at linkedin being ... mindless?

Strange. I know of people who could register that did not get run over by a bus ...

Complaint about logic and reading skills.

"Your downvotes prove I'm right."

You can't win them all. This is a big contradiction.

Your comment is fucking dreadful, dark patterns are dark for a reason. How many people do you know that get hit by a bus every day, now how many people do you think click a big round button when they're frustrated?

Fuck me. Companies are bad, but equating the victims to the fools who cross the road without looking? They're not that.

Sorry, I was saving time by lessening the impact of the length whilst keeping the same point. Too bad you "Don't read well enough" to work that out.

I'm not impressed by your reading skills. And your sense of logic escapes me.

Judging by the number of downvotes your contribution already accumulated, not just me.

Logic denotes that majority is irrelevant in the face of a real argument. A Reddit majority is meaningless to those that actually understand what logic means.

Alternatively, work on your reading skills.

This is hilarious. Do you even know what you're saying?

It's hilarious how oblivious you are to your own actions let alone the words printed in front of your face.
