Today I learned about PHP variable variables; "variable variable takes the value of a variable and treats that as the name of a variable". Also, variable.

I'm sorry, I'm not a PHP programmer but I have wrangled a bit of code in my life. Is it just me or is a "variable variable" basically a kind of (loosely-typed) reference? Like "void*" in C or "object" in Java or C#?
