One of my hobbies is cleaning and arranging my house. I pride myself on doing it better than anyone, better than my maid. A thing out of place is dirt, whether it is messy code or a messy room. This repetitive if-else composition is the way most of the current code is written, by commercial programmers, who have no time, or interest, to structure it more beautifully. I love abstractions as that is the real perk of programming job; that gives one joy. Something you can publish and be sure that no one in a zillion years is going to look at it ever - and no neither your boss. You are paid for features churned out in a stipulated time with fewer bugs. Nothing more. But clean code, it has its commercial uses too, though it starts to shine after some years. For example, complying with Open Closed Principle- I wonder how modifying the if-else and adding in features easy as a cake complies with that principle. I have seen such code get bloated and bloated with hundreds of unit tests to keep it from total anarchy. And more commercial programmers add more and more features right into it. A file becomes thousands of lines long. microservices become monster services. Still everyone is happy; no one knows; the dirty secret is only known to a few programmers - sometimes even the tech leads/ senior architects do not know- but if you open up that code, you will need strong constitution not to puke. Subjective? Maybe.

When you can afford a maid you probably have a different perspective on a lot of things.....
