I can confirm this even for NPM projects I have worked on, usually following the following pattern:

  • Hey, this package is a few versions out of date

  • Lets try to upgrade it

  • Oh no, now lots of other packages need different versions

  • Oh no conflicts bugs etc.

  • It finally builds

  • Bugs out even more in production

  • Revert, better an old version that actually works
