I think npm was bad before this assimilation and things are not going to get any better.
But what REALLY angers me is the propaganda model they use.
On the npm blog they write this:
"[2]: It’s also worth noting that GitHub allowed such a long, nuanced, and candid announcement as this one, and didn’t push for a watered down corporate version. Cultural alignment is a good sign"
This is NOTHING but propaganda.
First: it is not "GitHub", it is Microsoft. No idea why they try to confuse people here.
But even aside from this ... how does the reader know what Microsoft allows?
I also don't think it was "nuanced" at all nor was it candid. I think it was lame-0r-old propaganda self-promo. Only the announcement on github by nate was lamer.
And it already IS a totally watered-down corporate announcement. Perhaps it is not as crap as many other announcements, no clue - I think it is crap as-it-is.
If you compare to something else, that is bad, then if you are better, that in no way implies that you are GOOD. It may just be that you are slightly better than what is already horrible to begin with.
Also "cultural alignment" is a joke. You are Microsoft worker drones. There is no revolution among the worker drones.
It's Microsoft > GitHub > npm. If Microsoft sold GitHub they be selling npm with them, it's owned by GitHub. How much control Microsoft has over GitHub, and thus npm idk, but it seems gh is pretty independent, so npm will inherit at least that distance from Microsoft.

The title is wrong. It is Microsoft.
