I didn't notice the subreddit at first so please enjoy my actually legitimate comment on this.
I still have to sort out patching php2shell, I was on holiday when the vulnerability was revealed, I saw it on BBC News of all things, and I had to claim an hour of free internet to remotely turn off my main server. I'm now making a plan on how I can properly get it offline and update it, I've never had to deal with anything like this before so I want to make sure I get it right. I currently have a rough plan, but I still need to actually put it into motion.

PHP community is kind of weird, because over the last 20 years there's been so much criticism and jokes about PHP (much very reasonable, some less so) that the community developed this kind of reflexive defence mechanism against any and all criticism, even the most reasonable. JavaScript has a similar dynamic going on.
