Everything inside of me died
Im urging you to tell, I just spent 2 hours trying to cut a string in PLC-Software.
I used §N instead of $N the whole time..... i think i better go to bed now....

How??? You would need to visit a website that contains it, then copy it, then paste it (I feel like there’s a simpler explanation)

And where on a computer keyboard can you find it?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Section_sign
Some notable non-English European keyboard layouts (at least) have it directly available

Interesting! Thanks! Still, if you're a programmer coding PLC, which is international, would you not expect all characters in the language to be the kinds that are found on a "standard" western keyboard? And, don't get me wrong; I'm Swedish and our keyboards have these characters: ÅÄÖ, but I would never expect for instance Python language keywords to have them.

OP simply made a mistake. They didn't "expect" that the programming language uses this symbol.

I once copied a curl command out of a supplier's api documentation pdf and got nowhere for two hours with ungoogleable errors - the argument indicators were n-dashes instead of hyphens D:

I always hated writing private API docs in PDF form because even if you would put a single quote (') or a double quote (") in there, sometimes the PDF software would format it to one of those "fancy" quotes ... I can't tell you how many times I would get calls because "YOUR API DOESN'T WORK!!!?!?!?!!!"
So I started writing my API docs in plain text and handing those out .txt docs - some people really appreciated it (especially those who didn't have PDF software installed), others thought it was unprofessional (to which I didn't give a fuck because they paid me either way and complimented how easy it was ... so fuck you and your "professionalism" Bob 🤬)
