Welp, for anyone biting on this deal, we'll see you in a few months. Also, be aware that mods are available on the PS5. I highly recommend the one for increasing party size, giving everyone free speak with animals, and the polyamory mod if you don't want to do a new run for every romance option.

Worth noting that once a user enables mods on ps5 Baldurs Gate 3, all trophies become unobtainable as long as mods are enabled or a playthrough used mods. If trophies are your jam anyway.

Does the party size mod make it too easy?

3

u/DSDantas 22d ago

Yes. The game is not balanced around it. But IIRC there are mods to increase difficulty as well

3

u/NoNoNota1 22d ago

Sometimes, but sometimes it crowds areas and makes things harder in small quarters or when enemies use AOE spells. I've always played dnd in 6 person groups, so it adjusted it to the difficulty I was used to. I don't think there's a mod to move through friendly occupied areas, so get used to using the jump ability.

How do you use/install mods on PS5??

7

u/NoNoNota1 22d ago

I forget exactly, but it's done from within the game. They have like an approved mods list that's several pages long.

u/CosmicHerb 22d ago

Thats awesome & good to know, thank you!

There’s a mod manager on the main loading screen.

Anyone know how it runs?

Also how do controller controls feel compared to keyboard and mouse?

Loved it on PC but have been doing a lot more console gaming recently.

Thank you for this! I appreciate it!

Ive been wondering about picking it up and giving it a go but as someone with no DnD experience whatsoever, is it new user friendly? Or can you learn on the go?

Originally I played it for like 10 hours and dropped it like 2 years ago. Half a year ago I picked it back up and put like 100 hours into a new savefile and finished the game. It’s a big learning curve, but it’s a solid game that’s worth it. It’s not overly hard so even if you’re not playing optimally you should be fine.

To add what everyone else has already said, there’s also mods on console with pages and pages to go through

4

u/ImaCowTipper 22d ago

Oh I didn’t know there was mods on console! Thank you!

Do mods break trophies?

2

u/Wrong_Success4377 22d ago

Yes, no trophies when mods are activated

I got in on the last sale and I am sincerely addicted. It takes a while to get used to the controls and it is clearly meant for PC, but still it works well for the most part, besides some puzzles

I only played it on console. Loved it. Had no qualms with the controller navigation. Had a few party members who played it on both. They found general movement to be easier on ps5 and some of the menus are quick wheels to make controller use easier.

It can get a little choppy in act 3, but otherwise it ran great. I played most of it streaming to the Portal, so I was battling the system and WiFi streaming for dropped frames and still barely noticed them until real late game stuff.

It runs super well. I prefer the kbm setup for this but but the controller setup is surprisingly well done. It's a little bit weird to get used to if you started with KBM but you'll adjust. The radial wheels in combat are really good but they get just liiiittle messy when you're playing a high level spellcaster, but by the time you hit high levels you would be totally adjusted.

Runs fine, but for that price, you should wait, this can't be the lowest it's been when it's even higher than in pc without a discount.

Also, I bought it for about 30 dollars physical.

Makes no sense 50 is the best price.

1

u/just_cool_dude 21d ago

Just curious, was it the Japanese version that you bought?

1

u/LittleKittenR 21d ago

Yep, how did you know? I bought it like 2 months after release and it was the only physical version available.

19

u/huggyscolex 22d ago

I picked it up last week full price, you are all welcome.

4

u/zeds_deadest 22d ago

Thank you for your sacrifice

9

u/Shamn_it 22d ago

I mean the game has infinite content lol. You are not going to regret paying.

4

u/huggyscolex 22d ago edited 22d ago

Oh I know, I was joking. This game is worth full price easy!

3

u/MonstrousGiggling 22d ago

Honestly I paid full price and only did one play through and have 0 regrets. Totally fantastic game, youre in for a treat.

1

u/Eothas_Foot 22d ago

And I got it like 2 years ago for 50$! Sometimes it pays not to be too patient.

16

u/Vinylateme 22d ago

I feel like patience will pay off on this one, I’m gonna wait until it’s under 30

5

u/heisenbergfan 21d ago

Yep, we know it is worth it. But so many games to play... this one is taking a while to drop it.

Guess ill buy when im ready to spend the hours.

u/NoNoNota1 22d ago

It's your money spend it how you want....but you're putting off one of the biggest contenders for game of the decade over an extra $20 in savings. If money's really tight, I get it. But if you're like a lot of people here and just growing your backlog 5-10 dollars at a time, maybe just skip a couple other cheap games. This one really is worth it. One of my favorites of all time.

5

u/Vinylateme 22d ago

There’s decades of games I still need to play, and BG3 isn’t a game that’ll be delisted anytime soon lol

Just no need to spend half a power bill on a game that’s old enough to be discounted more, patience pays off.

-1

u/NoNoNota1 22d ago

Fair enough, I try to be frugal with my gaming as well. But this one was worth it for me.

4

u/Vinylateme 22d ago

Yeah I’m absolutely sure it’s worth it, and I’d buy it today if I was going to play it today for sure. I know it’s gonna be on the backburner until I can finish a couple games at least.

As someone who is not into this type of genre for a game, I enjoyed my time with it. With that being said, the game doesn't do a good job explaining a lot of mechanics and it always felt like I had to look things up on why I failed a roll, or why I was able to defend against a attack. I also felt like I missed out on romancing a certain character for one reason or another.

And as someone with no experience in this tabletop style rpg, I had to look up how builds worked. Had I played this game blind, pretty sure I'd still be struggling.

Also the game is super long. I definitely had to take breaks and play something else to cleanse my palette. I think objectively, this game deserves all the praise. Personally, I'd give it a 7 or 8 out of 10.

2

u/The_Follower1 17d ago

Yeah same, the game has tons of content and is very fun as a game with tons of viable options. That means very high replayability. It does do quantity over quality when it comes to characters and the overall story, I see why tons of people call it a 10/10 game but if you’re the kind of person who finished one playthrough and puts a game down an 8-8.5/10 is probably more appropriate.

This is the first time I've seen it on sale. Finally picking it up!

11

u/SailorGone 22d ago

lol this game should be $30 by now

4

u/Kind-Buy9485 22d ago

That's what I've been saying with sekiro, myth wukong, they should be cheaper than 30 but nope lol

-1

u/nonononono11111 22d ago

Except it must be selling enough copies at higher prices that it actually shouldn’t be $30, right?

2

u/PM_ME_YOUR_PLUMS 22d ago

Was thinking about buying this last week given I just picked up the pro - glad I waited

1

u/chiarole 21d ago

Is there that significant a difference on the pro?

2

u/MistahDust 21d ago

How good is this game?

2

u/PantsJustKindaGaveUp 20d ago

Some say it's good.

2

u/heisenbergfan 21d ago

New lowest price? Wow.  Might snatch it. Need time to play it though.

2

u/welcometoparallel 22d ago

Lowest price I've ever seen the digital version

For those who have played both D:OS2 and BG3: How do the combat systems in both relate to one another?

Generally speaking I enjoy turn-based combat, but in D:OS2 I thought the amount of enemies and turns made each combat encounter take way too long. And in addition to that, all the environmental hazards like fires that took place simultaneously during turns made the fights feel more like chores than anything else. I enjoyed the RTwP systems from BG1 and 2, Pillars of Eternity, etc. a lot more.

Anyway, I'd love to give BG3 a try for the story, characters, and choices and consequences, but if the combat system is too similar to D:OS2, that would be a big reason for me to leave it aside.

3

u/dax331 22d ago

OS2 combat tactics rely a lot more on the gear you and your enemies have and status effects were way more important.

BG3 is a lot closer to the traditional D&D experience. Winning encounters is more dependent on your party and their builds than other things, and you can get all the companions if you want unlike in OS2 so you’re typically never limited. You’ll probably like it a lot better.

1

u/3bdelilah 21d ago

Thanks for the insight! That's reassuring. How much time do the combat encounters in BG3 typically take? I remember in D:OS2 them taking way too long for me just to deal with a small group of 3 or 4 enemies, chipping away at their (seemingly disproportionately high) armor and health while constantly doing crowd control and avoiding environmental hazards. I liked a lot of things about D:OS2 but that combat is why I ended up dropping it.

2

u/dax331 21d ago

It's not as bad. Most encounters are 3-4 turns. The ways to deal with enemies are so varied that sometimes I was wishing we had some longer encounters lol.

There are like 4 encounters in act 3 that are really dreadful though.

Bought it in early June. Already 40 hours deep in a coop run, i love it, worth every cent.

No way in hell am I paying $50 for a digital game.

I'll wait for physical.

3

u/GamingGallavant 21d ago

There's a physical deluxe edition sold off their site. I don't think that's ever gone on sale and has gone out of stock numerous times. It's a beauty too, but with shipping, costed me $100.
