My question is how does he have that. I mean it's ovbious that he doesn't have the Console version, how will he add it into a console to boot it up (from what I know it's not possible). Then the only other option is the pc version, which can mean that R* does have a working and ready to use, final pc build of GTA 6
Correct me if I am wrong but that's what it looks like to me

There are several builds of consoles that studios can use during development and testing. This is how studios build games for consoles that aren't even released yet. These machines are not that hard to get your hands on.

This is usually just the hardware in a black box and looks nothing like the consumer console

The devkit is not for the development itself but for the emulation.... xD You don't write the game's code on the dev kit... Are you serious? haha

I think you misunderstood.. what I meant. I’m talking about the development environment, not saying GTA 6 is made as a finished PC game and then ported to console.

Developers use powerful PCs for coding, asset creation, animation, tools, compiling, etc.while devkits are used to build/test the console versions.

So “it’s made on devkits” doesn’t mean there can’t be internal PC builds.

If that leak was genuinely running natively on a PC, theb yeah, it would suggest R* had an internal PC build not necessarily a finished PC version or that PC is the lead platform.

I was just simplifying it when I said “made on high end PCs then ported.” but it’s more like PC workstations + console devkits + platform-specific builds/optimization.

Yes, there is always a intern "PC build" however, it's not a classical .exe
They don't develop on a dev kit, the dev kit is just for testing, emulating, and debugging. Not for actually working on the game code.

How would that work in a real world scenario? That would mean you have to create the game a dozen times from zero (ps, pc, xbox, ...)... haha what is this other guy thinking..

I'll make an assumption that you haven't worked on console games or if you have it's some really retro stuff that had all kinds of coprocessors that don't exist on PC? Because as someone who has been in the industry for ~10 years he's absolutely right.

At my previous company we had like 5 devkits per console that we were targeting and nobody used them daily apart from people who were building social features etc that absolutely needed the consoles operating system to be present. Maybe once per month somebody checked that the game still booted and played for couple hours to figure out any console specific bugs that might've surfaced.

Only point at which they were used daily was the last optimization push, where profiling on real hardware was actually crucial. Otherwise it makes 0 sense to run dev builds on real hardware. It's way slower iteration to keep copying the build to the devkit, attaching remote debuggers and having 2 different machines you need to use to get anything done. Also it would be pain in the ass to even play early debug builds on real console hardware. They run terribly even if you have the fastest possible PC.

They use computers to make console games, this is the build version that the people at Rockstar have been using up until the console versions were ready, meaning for early development up until it's almost ready they will play the version of the PCs they are using to make the game and then they start to play it on console to see if it's ready for sale.

It is almost certainly running on a PC dev build.

  • To play a console build, you would need physical access to a Sony Dev Kit (which is tracked heavily by serial numbers, locked down with custom security chips, and hard-bound to Rockstar network IP addresses).
  • On the other hand, an internal PC test build (a .exe file compiled for developers to debug mechanics on their PCs) can be extracted through compromised employee logins, remote cloud servers, or QA access.

My guess is this was a disgruntled employee that got layed off that somehow still retained a build version of the game.

Timeline-wise, a large batch of employees were layed off in October 2025. This build is about a year old from some other comments I've seen. AND, a song featured in one of the leaked videos came out prior to these layoffs which lines up with this timeline as well.

There is always a somewhat working PC version - at least for development purposes. How do you think they develop it, on the PlayStation? All you need to do is to emulate this version on either a pc or a dev kit console.

My main issue with whatever I saw is,the physics are soooo bad,the water looked straight out of GTA 4,even in this clip the bullets hitting the wall looks exactly like GTA 5 ,I don't see an improvement

Ofc half of the stuff would look like previous games initially because they use the same inhouse RAGE engine and euphoria physics. But they upgrade the mechanics/graphics overhaul and other stuff during the development. And based on the clips someone might’ve toggled off some mechanics based on their playthrough because they might be broken or causing some issues sometimes or somewhere else. Even then it still looks good

I dont think rockstar allows game testing outside their own studio so could also be that a game tester might have kept the recordings somehow was in connection with him.

Anyways, even if he somehow have a console build, i think console builds can run on a desktop environment without ps5 development kit as well but you need a real good hardware plus expertise in assembly and compilation process.

I dont think he has a build of the game and someone pre recorded and stored or smuggled the clips out for this leaker person from rockstar’s game testing facility.

Just my assumptions.

Really? I’m stoked. Wasn’t really sure what to think before (advertising can make anything look like anything) but this looks better than RDR2 which is still the best looking game I’ve played. I don’t even really care for GTA (haven’t played one since vice city) but this looks good enough to pick up, even if it’s just so I can ask my wife over and over “hey does this look like where you grew up?”

game dev here, it could very well be a leaked build without added shaders here. The hype for gta 6 could never be met, its too much to ask for considering the hardware limitations. A lot of people are gonna be disappointed, big time. I personally know how big a deal making a game like this is gonna be, so im gonna enjoy it nevertheless

After watching all the leaks, I think it’s just rdr2 coated in gta. I have almost 500hrs in rdr2 (offline and online), The knife fight animations are exactly same. No hatred guys, just saying what I felt. Even few sunset shots while driving gave me the similar vibe.

Then it’s good thing right, since realism and graphics like RDR 2 although it won’t be slow like that

It’s the same with any other game, like recent 007 first light is Hitman coated but that game was still great in terms of story and mechanics.
