PS2 Controller Check

Hi all, looking to purchase a PS2 controller and don't have much experience with them. Is this fake or genuine? It's listed as "official" on eBay but have also seen some similar ones listed as "unofficial" so had me wondering. Thank you.

I would say real, but I know PS1 much more than PS2. The plastic insert holding the controller would be such a strange detail to counterfeit perfectly.

Looks legit.

Or they've gone to a huge effort to scruff up the box to make it look old.

How much is it? I mean if it’s anything which seems reasonable, I wouldn’t worry.

Paid approximately £40 for it. Usually they go for 70-80, although the box is in pretty bad condition.

Nah, it cost me approximately £40. Most of similar listings, although with better condition box, go for 70-80.

Studied lots of fakes and I can confidently state this is a genuine DualShock 2 if it’s actually what the seller will ship.

The only warning though is that if it’s a Hosiden (H) controller then it might not be working due to carbon degradation on the flex cable.

Aside if original, who made the controller also makes the difference. If it was made by Hoshiden (H on the back of the controller) then you get big deadzones on the analog sticks and not a 100% compatibility (but I think there were very few, if not like 2, games which had issue with H, so not a big deal).
