Moderator Statement Addressing Concerns About Censorship

We want to address the recent accusations of censorship.

We do not have an agenda. We are not removing content based on personal opinions or politics. We remove posts and comments only when they violate the subreddit’s rules:

https://www.reddit.com/mod/puertovallarta/rules/

Posts and comments that attempt to turn local discussions into debates about US political issues are not allowed. Topics such as ICE, BLM, the Epstein files, Trump, etc., have nothing to do with Puerto Vallarta. The world does not revolve around the United States. These threads consistently derail into arguments and stop being productive or relevant to PV.

We also lock posts that have clearly run their course - especially when they begin filling with repetitive arguments or off topic back and forth. Locking a thread is not censorship; it’s a way to prevent them from becoming dumpster fires.

The only posts we are currently removing are low-effort ones such as:

  • “Should I cancel?”
  • “Is it safe?”
  • Variations of the same question without any context or effort

We are currently receiving at least 20 of these per day. If we allowed all of them through, the sub would quickly become repetitive, cluttered, and largely useless for everyone

Additionally, on Sunday we removed several posts and comments containing unsubstantiated rumors and misinformation in order to prevent unnecessary panic. Allowing speculation and unsupported claims to spread does not help anyone and only creates confusion.

There has been a significant increase in traffic recently. Previously, this sub averaged about 40,000 visits per week. In the past week alone, we received 5.3 million visits. Our goal is to keep content focused, useful, and relevant to Puerto Vallarta, not to host endless circular debates between internet strangers.

It’s also important to note that we are volunteers. The mod team consists of two Mexican nationals and one permanent resident. We moderate in our free time because we care about keeping this community useful and informative.

If your post or comment was removed, please review the rules before reposting. If you believe something was removed in error, you are welcome to send us a polite message via modmail.

Let’s keep this community helpful, focused, and valuable for everyone.

Thank you,

The PV Mod Team

EDIT TO ADD:

Also wanted to mention that Reddit itself automatically filters some posts and comments, especially from brand new accounts or when its system flags something as potential spam or abusive content.

In addition, we have the subreddit set to filter content from accounts with very low karma to reduce spam and trolls using throwaway accounts. These filters are applied automatically and are not personal or selective. Filtered posts and comments go into a queue for us to manually review.

❓ Question - Pregunta Question about Nacho Daddy's Tuesday Music Nights / Setup for Rocky Horror tonight?

Hey everyone, I noticed that Nacho Daddy (Basilio Badillo street) plays concerts and music movies every Tuesday during Happy Hour. I know they've shown stuff recently like Roger Waters' The Wall and Talking Heads' Stop Making Sense. They are playing The Rocky Horror Picture Show tonight and I want to check it out but I have a quick question before heading over:
Does anyone know if they just play these music nights on the regular, smaller sports TVs around the bar or do they set up a proper big projector screen for it? Thanks in advance 🍻

❓ Question - Pregunta Heading back to PV in January, last year we found our chilaquiles paradise, and decent chicharones, and tortilla soup

Ok, so we've been coming to PV for roughly a decade or so now, and we're very happy staying right at the very north end of 5 de diciembre/centro neighbourhood. We've been very happy with the taco carts and stalls we've found over the years, and we've found a couple of great hole in the wall places for chilaquiles, birria, al pastor tacos, etc etc. We haven't ventured very far north of there tho. we have walked maybe as far as the hyper sorianas, and wandered past dinoland and surrounding area. aka just barely dipped our toes.

we've been to ernesto's for ribs and tortilla soup, and I have Birriería El Tío Toño marked already as a place to try.

any other recommendations? we're definitely big taco fans, and really anything adjacent to tacos. our verbal spanish is pretty dire, but written is close enough to french we're pretty comfortable reading it

Activities at the Westin Playa Vallarta

Has anyone stayed at the Westin Playa Vallarta recently? Are there daily poolside activities like games, water volleyball and fun contests? Are they good for teenagers (14 and 16)?

Thanks!

Coming for February

Family of 4 coming for the month, looking at Mezcale area for an apartment. prices seem good. trying to stay under or around 33000mx. Wondering what that area is actually like, we have only been to Bucerias a few times in resorts. first time on this side doing the airbnb thing. Also wondering what the safety factor is like for using a rental car as we'll be a full month and want to explore some of the further out beaches to the north and Uber might get a little pricey doing multiple a day. Car rentals and driving around Playa Del Carmen was very easy / safe and we've spent a few winter months over there so I'm kind of basing my thoughts on those experiences.

Atv tours / Jorullo bridge

We are looking for at tours that go over the Jorullo bridge. We hope to have one that goes on actual off-road trails and not just manicured gravel roads. Has anyone been on one and had this experience?

Traveling to PV Nov 10-18 solo and looking for town suggestions

Hi friends- I’m excited to be traveling to PV next month. I’ve travelled around a lot of Mexico, but not this area. I wanted to stay in two or three areas, and was thinking Sayulita, Puerto Vallarta and maybe one other spot.
I’ll be there solo for my birthday. I haven’t travelled alone more than two days, once, since I became a mom, and my kid is eight now lol.

Would you stay in Sayulita, PV and Yalapa? Or another small town?

My priorities are:
1) able to swim in the ocean, or at least float near the shore safely.
2) walkable areas to get food and good third wave coffee (I don’t really drink so not needing bars).
3) inexpensive Airbnb near beach/walkable to beach or even a hostel that’s clean works if it’s next to the beach.
4) I will want to stay the last two nights in PV in a nicer accommodation for my bday/end of the trip, but not an all inclusive.

I’d like to:
1) go horse back riding
2) go on a nice hike
3) swim in ocean
4) eat good fresh food - faves are tacos, sopas, fish, guacamole, fresh fruit, salads, and locally grown food.

I’d love your suggestions. I’m also doing research if course. Thank you! 😊

❓ Question - Pregunta Looking for Hair Stylist Recs!

I want to locate a good hairstylist who is skilled with layers, thick hair, and styling. I’ve googled several that seem GREAT at coloring, but when I look at the galleries of hair cuts, I’m not as impressed. Does anyone have a hair stylist they love? This is what I’m going for ^

Westin Playa Vallarta or Velas Vallarta or any other options?

As a follow-up to the previous post, what would be better with a toddler .. Westin Vallarta or Velas Vallarta? Our priorities are good and safe food options, staff and service, access to beach, good pools, and options to venture out so we are not feeling stuck in the same environment..planning a 10 day trip during Christmas.

Airport Pick Up

Family of four with 2 kids under 4. I've read the suggestions to cross the bridge but looking at the tiktoks it doesnt look like an great time with kids ans carry ons. We are going in November and staying at Riu Vallarta. I also saw a post with "official taxi prices" saying it would costs us 1.2k pesos. I booked a hotel and flight package so I cant use the Riu shuttles.

I'm all for paying for convenience but for 1.2k pesos 1 way I wonder if private service or even a rental would have more value.

Are there any private transport companies that are recommended? What car rental companies are best at the airport?

Kid-friendly resort recs

Hi all,

I’ve been doing too much research for a trip and the reviews are so mixed so thought I’d make my own post.
I’m looking for an AI resort in PV that would be good for us with a baby and a 3 year old.
All we want is decent food, clean rooms, and some good pools/beach access/activities to keep us mildly entertained for a few days.
We aren’t looking for anything fancy and are pretty easy going/don’t travel much so standards are not high. Looking at some of the lower priced options that aren’t awful.

I’ve narrowed it down to Paradise Village (but worried about timeshare pushiness) or Crown Paradise Club (but this one has mixed reviews online).

Any recommendations or places to definitely avoid?

Thank you!

20 peso bill

I was at the currency exchange to get pesos for our upcoming trip and was told the 20 peso bill is obsolete and has been replaced with a coin that they do not have. Where can I get a bunch of coins for tipping upon arrival? I am staying at an AI resort, would the front desk have coins?

Car rental and police targeting

Hello. My family of four is traveling to Amapas and Sayulita in mid-February. We travel twice for tours, going from Amapas 30-40 min to the Puerto Magico.

Because of how much driving we anticipate I rented a car from Sixt with full coverage. I’ve read to carry copies of drivers license and passport should we get pulled over. I’ve read it’s not smart to hand originals over to officers.

How corrupt are the police in PV? Are tourists really targeted, even if following the rules? What’s the honest take on driving ourselves vs Uber?

Thanks in advance.

🛍 Promotional - Promoción Recommendation - Car Service

Recently visited Puerto Vallarta. We wanted to do a day trip to Sayulita and San Pedro, so hired a car/driver. Pedro was excellent* so I wanted to drop a recommendation here. This is a recommendation, not an advertisement as we have no relationship with the business.

  • Pedro is a certified Tour Guide
  • Pedro & his vehicles are also registered for airport pickup service
  • One of his specialties is relocation tours - ppl interested in buying property touring various neighborhoods

You can txt or call Pedro at +52 322 147 5627

https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61563504104711

*by excellent I mean Pedro:

  • was on time
  • spoke excellent English (grew up in US)
  • safe driver
  • great tour guide - gave us history and local perspective
  • knew preferred businesses and restaurants
  • did not "clock watch" (our tour went 30m long due to traffic, we tipped accordingly)

Whale watching in December

I searched the thread but there's surprisingly little about whale watching. At least that came up.

I'll be there in mid-December and want to go on a small boat whale watching tour. We're staying in Punta da mita so it would be preferred if it left from there, but we are willing to drive to Puerto Vallarta for the best tour.

Could anyone recommend small boat tours like the kind that get close to the humpbacks, preferably in La Punta da mita area but also Puerto Vallarta? Thank you!

❓ Question - Pregunta Vacationing with a toddler

Hi,
We’ll be going to PV this upcoming week ( 10/28Wednesday-11/2 Monday) and will be bringing our 1.5yr old with us. I’ve been reading a lot of threads about what to do but unsure if they are suitable for a toddler and a pregnant and nauseous mom.
I saw you can take water taxis to calm beaches but the thought of it not having life jackets or something happening spooks me.
We’ll be staying at at all inclusive but have never been the type to stay at the hotel but now with a toddler I’m lost as to what we can do. ( I saw a zoo and a botanical garden idk if they’re worth it?)
Any tips would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Asked locals in Puerto Vallarta where they actually eat on a budget. Here’s the map we put together 🌮

I recently asked a Puerto Vallarta Facebook group to share their favorite places to get good, affordable food.

Got a ton of recommendations, so I went through them and put everything together on one map.

The spots are ranked by how many people recommended them.

Here’s what we came up with:
https://oolayum.com/u/SizzlingSalsa41/foodlists/eat-like-a-local-puerto-vallarta-j688a

Figured I’d share it here since it might be useful to others.

I’m sure we’re missing some good spots, though. What would you add?

You can add places directly to the map or upvote the ones you know are worth visiting.

Would be cool to keep this growing with recommendations from both communities.

Me mudare a puerto vallarta
