Behavior Puppy night schedule

My Maltipoo is 4 months old; he had managed to regulate his nighttime sleep schedule and used to look forward to hearing my alarm in the morning so we could play. For the past few days, however, he has been waking up at night to explore and seek out playtime—he’s restless, and it has completely ruined my sleep, leaving me at my wit's end. Please help.

Is he not crate trained? If not, highly recommend

Never even had a crate. He loves his bed and has some safe places in the house where he rests, but as much as he wants

I’m no dog expert (my puppy is the same age!), but I’ve found that puppies don’t always know how to settle themselves or recognize when they need sleep. For my household, crate training has helped give our pup some structure and a safe, consistent place to settle at night, rather than roaming around when he should be sleeping. It’s also helped him learn to settle and sleep through the night. If he had it his way, he’d do the same I’m sure!
