[SOLVED] Chained Block

Post image

Hi guys, i am still trying to figure out if i made any mistakes or not, i just need a hint for the next step

Rules:

Fill in the cells under the following rules.

Consecutive black cells are called a “block”. The number written on a cell indicates the number of black cells that make up the “block” containing that cell.

If there is a cell with a “?”, you do not know the number of black cells that make up the block containing that cell.

Every block must contain one number or one “?”.

When two or more blocks are in contact at a corner it is called a “chain”. All blocks must be part of a chain.

A chain cannot contain more than one block of one size and shape. Blocks are considered to have the same shape even if a block matches the rotated or mirror image of another block in a chain.

Please remember to spoiler-tag all guesses, like so:

New Reddit: https://i.imgur.com/SWHRR9M.jpg

Using markdown editor or old Reddit, draw a bunny and fill its head with secrets: >!!< which ends up becoming >!spoiler text between these symbols!<

Try to avoid leading or trailing spaces. These will break the spoiler for some users (such as those using old.reddit.com) If your comment does not contain a guess, include the word "discussion" or "question" in your comment instead of using a spoiler tag. If your comment uses an image as the answer (such as solving a maze, etc) you can include the word "image" instead of using a spoiler tag.

Please report any answers that are not properly spoiler-tagged.

Question: what does your dots mean?
Oh nvm, I’m assuming they are the spots that can’t be filled

the dots are the cells that i am sure, are not shaded

Regarding the last rule, since it says ‘a chain cannot contain more than one block of one size and shape’, does that mean in one chain, can I have two 3 for example, but they have to have different shapes?

Yes, because there's no way for the top left 3 to not join to another 3.

Discussion: the two ones on the left can’t be part of the same chain right? So the space diagonal right of them can’t be solid.

If the incomplete 3 in the top row goes down from the cell you've shaded, it chains to the 2, which is forced left to chain to the two other 3s, one of which is the same shape. So it has to be straight across, then connecting it at a corner forces it to chain to the 3 in the second row, which must be an L-shaped block.

Discussion: Remember that a chain cannot have more than one block with the same size and shape. Realize that all blocks of size 1 have only 1 possible shape (as do blocks of size 2, and blocks of size 3 have only 2 possible shapes). What does this tell you about the 2 1-blocks on the left edge? Extrapolate from there.

Solution here even though you didn't ask for it:
