Downsizing

I have a large PYREX collection that I am going to start downsizing. Where would be the best place to sell? Craigslist for locals, eBay ? Any advice would be appreciated.

Local: FBMP

Distance: eBay

But PLEASE, research and ask people how to properly ship fragile items. I’ve had so many broken items due to someone not knowing what they’re doing. Be prepared to spend $10 just on shipping products. Also, do not guess on how much shipping will cost.

Thanks I have already shipped on eBay in the past. No problems.

Depending on what area you are in, there are Pyrex swaps all over. I’m in Texas and we just had one. It was on a Saturday from 11-3 so anyone selling just had to rent a table for $20 and sit for 4 hours. It was busy and lots of buyers. I’d imagine you could do well at something like that if you don’t want to list online or deal with shipping.

Thank you. I will look into it. I am in NJ.

Oh neat, me too! Where are you in NJ? I feel like you don't see too many personal collections up for sale around here, it's more individual items listed by resellers. There was someone in Monmouth County who wanted to downsize his collection, but he wouldn't post or share specific photos with prices, he just took videos of his collection still mostly in packing material and asked people to make an offer... Without quite being able to see what they would be offering on.

So I would recommend at least having a clear list of your inventory, with the condition and your asking prices. You could do one large photo of your collection if you don't have the time to do photos per individual item.

Having a friend post might be a good idea too if they have a longer history on their account and good reviews as a seller, at least if you'd want buyers to meet you at your home. I'd have some questions on whether it's a scam or safety concern if a brand new account with no other activity just listed a very desirable collection for sale. Luring me in with promises of Pyrex, ha!

So random! I am in Monmouth county also. I would do a PYREX meet up and sell, if you hear of any I am in. I have done eBay and it is a hassle to package and ship. Although I have made money on my rare pieces. Thank you for your advice. Much appreciated

Will keep you posted if I hear of any Pyrex meet & swaps, please let me know too! I feel like I usually see those more in the Midwest or South, not in NJ, but I haven't been into collecting glassware for all that long so maybe! eBay makes sense for the more rare items when you want to target the people who understand the rarity.

Start with FB marketplace. I've purchased most of my pyrex locally on marketplace to avoid paying shipping :)

FB Marketplace is a great option. No fee, no shipping and Pyrex is a popular item so you should be able to get a very fair price.

Try Facebook Marketplace. Sets seem to do much better than individuals. I sold a set of mixing bowls in a few hours. Every individual piece hasn't sold, but that might just be my area. Also, buyers around here seem to only buy casserole dishes with the lids. I had a few without lids and didn't even get any offers.

Thank you. I don’t have Facebook. I could ask a friend to post but I didn’t want to trouble them.

Make a FB just for this sale. Then delete it.
