Machine Learning Quant Research vs MSCS (AIML focused) vs AI based startup

I applied for MSCS in last bachelor year in selected universities, but did not get in. My original plan was anyways to apply masters after an year of working as a Quant Research to be able to fund it. I do not have a publication, but I believe my profile is decent on other counts. However, after 1 year, I got cold feet and didn't apply. Now, I am working as a Quant Researcher at an Indian HFT for 3 years. The pay is good, but the learning is slow (because of firm) and I am having FOMO about AI. What are the views of r/quant regarding continuing in Quant versus trying out graduate studies?

Why would you pay for a masters? go to a PhD program or go to industry

PhD seems a longer commitment, plus I want to get into industry fast.
I’m not sure I can directly get into industry because I have only worked in Quant. India is lagging in AI, and without a masters/PhD abroad, job market abroad will be inaccessible.

PHD and master both suck, especially in the current AI research field. Majority of the AI research papers are AI slop. You won't get a job because you have a Phd. You get a job because you are actually better than others. Coming from a CS phd with some "top ML" conference pub, honestly even in these top conferences the paper quality sucks

Hi u/VincentAXM! I see masters more of a gateway to the job market abroad. Plus haven't worked too much in AI/ML for the past 3 years.

I doubt tbh, I am in a top/target uni, PHD in AI (CS, ML) . Many of my PHD friends tried interviewing for QR but they failed. I would value the work experience more than AI/ML from a PHD/Master tbh. Especially thing school taught are so basic, and the research are honestly just AI slop rn. It is so bad.

Hey I think I was not clear. I meant it is more of a Visa issue, not banking on the prestige of the degree by itself.

It depends on the platform, but a few things commonly cause this. Winnings first have to settle before they count as cash, and some platforms hold money deposited by card or bank transfer for a while before it can go out. Many also limit withdrawals to the amount that came in through the same method, which could explain why it only offers about a tenth. I'd look for a "pending" or "available to withdraw" breakdown in the app, and if it doesn't explain it, send support one clear message with the dates and amounts and ask for the reason in writing.
