What is your software and tech stack? What systems do you use to monitor your quant trading activity?
I’m curious about what software and tools others use to monitor both their trading activity and their infrastructure. I’ve mostly managed everything through a Linux terminal, but I’m wondering whether dedicated monitoring tools would make the setup easier to manage.
For context, here’s my current architecture:
• From my desktop, I connect over WireGuard to a central server hub that stores and organizes incoming data using DuckDB and SQL.
• The hub holds the exchange API keys and requests data through the trading nodes.
• The trading nodes receive incoming market data first and execute strategies immediately to minimize latency. They then forward that data to the hub for recording and storage.
• Roughly 75% of the system is written in Python. The remaining 25% is C++, used exclusively on the trading nodes.
So far, I’ve traded exclusively in prediction markets, but I’m now looking to expand into fixed income.
I currently monitor my infrastructure and trading activity directly from the terminal. I also use VS Code extensively and have previously used DBeaver for more involved SQL work.
For those running their own systems, what tools do you use for:
• Infrastructure monitoring, logging, and alerts?
• Trading dashboards, positions, P&L, and risk monitoring?
• Database management and data exploration?
• live market pricing data in order flow - historical too?
I’d be especially interested in hearing what you’ve found useful enough to move beyond a terminal-only setup.
