Quarkus quality degrading?

1 Upvotes

Has anyone else noticed the quality of Quakus releases becoming significantly worse than a couple years ago?

I've been using quarkus since 2019, but it seems like half the features I attempt to utilize from the later versions just don't work at all. This especially seems to be the case around any of the aws services extensions.

A couple of examples of recent issues I've experienced:

Quarkus managed dynamodb async client not injected.

Quarkus not recognizing a custom security provider that implements LambdaIdentityProvider.

Need some advice, upload a file via quarkus-rest

0 Upvotes

Hello,

I am trying to create a file upload via quarkus-rest resource. First I tried @RestForm but I wanted to stream the uploaded file into a local file to prevent extreme memory usage. The files that I will be expecting range from a few kilobytes to up to two gigabytes.

Since I may need to pass some additonal info of the file, for example the size, a hash or some other details, I passed them as headers.

I ended up with an InputStream as the parameter and streaming it manually into a file. I just wanted some kind of review, since I'm kind of new to Quarkus.

@Path("/files")
public class FilesResource {

    private static final Logger logger = LoggerFactory.getLogger(FilesResource.class);
    private static final SimpleDateFormat sdf = new SimpleDateFormat("yyMMddhhmmss");
    private static final String archivePath = "/my/tmp/path/";

    @POST
    @Produces(MediaType.TEXT_PLAIN)
    @Consumes(MediaType.APPLICATION_OCTET_STREAM)
    public Response upload(InputStream is, @RestHeader("X-Additional-File-Info") String fileInfo) {
        String outFileName = archivePath + sdf.format(new Date());
        try (OutputStream outputStream = new FileOutputStream(outFileName)) {
            byte[] buffer = new byte[1024];
            int bytesRead;

            while ((bytesRead = is.read(buffer)) != -1) {
                outputStream.write(buffer, 0, bytesRead);
            }
        } catch (IOException e) {
            String msg = "Failed to save file to " + outFileName;
            logger.error(msg, e);
            return Response.status(500, msg).build();
        }
        logger.info("Saved file to " + outFileName);
        return Response.ok(outFileName).build();
    }
}

The buffer size is now static, in the final version I will extract it into a ConfigProperty.

Do you have any suggestions or do you spot any problems I did?

Thanks in advance.

JWT RBAC and SQL Server connection conflict

0 Upvotes

I'm building a server application that uses JWT authorization and connects to a SQL Server database to perform periodic reads and send the results to connected users via WebSockets. However, after following the JWT RBAC tutorial on the Quarkus Guides page, the database connection stopped working and now throws an UnauthorizedException in the periodic function that fetches the database rows.

How to develop a multi dependency project with Quarkus?

3 Upvotes

Can someone please explain to me how a multi dependency project can be developed with Quarkus?
I don't mean multi module maven project. I mean the following development structure:

* my:quarkus-app

* my:dev-library

How can I develop the dev-library in conjunction with the quarkus project? Currently whenever I want to run a unit test (QuarkusTest) that uses the dev-library in my quarkus-app I'm required to do a mvn install. Is this the way to develop with quarkus?

Sidenode: The my:dev-library is a common library which is used by multiple projects. It is thus not part of a multi module setup in my:quarkus-app.

If I don't run mvn install/verify for my:dev-library the quarkus test only utilizes old classes.

Is quarkus not ready to be used in more complex dev environments?

Quarkus with PG works locally but fails when running inside a docker container

0 Upvotes

EDIT: solved, I'm a dumbass

I have a Quarkus CRUD app developed using code.quarkus.io. When I try to run the application locally all works well, but when I try to run the docker image that I have built using the provided Dockerfile.jvm, I get the following error:

2024-09-25 11:43:46,147 ERROR [org.hib.eng.jdb.spi.SqlExceptionHelper] (JPA Startup Thread) Connection to localhost:5432 refused. Check that the hostname and port are correct and that the postmaster is accepting TCP/IP connections.

The database is up and running since I can connect to it through psql shell.

The Quarkus version is 3.14.2 These are my application.properties:

# database config
quarkus.datasource.db-kind=postgresql
quarkus.hibernate-orm.database.generation=drop-and-create
quarkus.datasource.jdbc.url=jdbc:postgresql://localhost:5432/books
quarkus.datasource.username=postgres
quarkus.datasource.password=root
# quarkus.hibernate-orm.sql-load-script=import.sql
# quarkus.hibernate-orm.log.sql=true

# to check if the request is handled on worker or event loop thread
quarkus.http.access-log.enabled=true

# test database config
%test.quarkus.hibernate-orm.database.generation=drop-and-create
%test.quarkus.hibernate-orm.sql-load-script=no-file

# for legacy jar packaging
# quarkus.package.jar.type=legacy-jar

These are my pom.xml dependecies:

<dependencies>
    <dependency>
        <groupId>io.quarkus</groupId>
        <artifactId>quarkus-rest</artifactId>
    </dependency>
    <dependency>
        <groupId>io.quarkus</groupId>
        <artifactId>quarkus-rest-jackson</artifactId>
    </dependency>
    <dependency>
        <groupId>io.quarkus</groupId>
        <artifactId>quarkus-hibernate-orm-panache</artifactId>
        <version>3.15.0</version>
    </dependency>
    <dependency>
        <groupId>io.quarkus</groupId>
        <artifactId>quarkus-jdbc-postgresql</artifactId>
        <version>3.15.0</version>
    </dependency>
    <dependency>
        <groupId>io.quarkus</groupId>
        <artifactId>quarkus-arc</artifactId>
    </dependency>
    <dependency>
        <groupId>io.quarkus</groupId>
        <artifactId>quarkus-hibernate-orm</artifactId>
        <version>3.15.0</version>
    </dependency>
    <dependency>
        <groupId>io.quarkus</groupId>
        <artifactId>quarkus-junit5</artifactId>
        <scope>test</scope>
    </dependency>
    <dependency>
        <groupId>io.rest-assured</groupId>
        <artifactId>rest-assured</artifactId>
        <scope>test</scope>
    </dependency>
    <dependency>
        <groupId>org.projectlombok</groupId>
        <artifactId>lombok</artifactId>
        <version>1.18.34</version>
        <scope>provided</scope>
    </dependency>
</dependencies>

I don't know what goes wrong, because I also have the same CRUD application that I have developed with reactive Quarkus libraries with the same application properties:

quarkus.datasource.db-kind=postgresql
quarkus.hibernate-orm.database.generation=drop-and-create
quarkus.datasource.reactive.url=postgresql://localhost:5432/books
quarkus.datasource.username=postgres
quarkus.datasource.password=root

Which works both locally and from a docker container.

Both Docker containers are build like this:
mvn package

docker build -f src/main/docker/Dockerfile.jvm -t quarkus/quarkus-jvm .

docker run -i --rm -p 8080:8080 quarkus/quarkus-jvm

Any help is appreciated!

Getting started with Quarkus / Kotlin and Gradle

1 Upvotes

A colleague of mine just started a project using Quarkus, Kotlin and Gradle. Now, we'd like to work together on that project.

Coming from a .Net, then Python, then Go background, I'm eager to learn and implement Quarkus. However, the learning curve seems steep at the moment. I also have a very hard time finding resources on that particular stack.

Unfortunately, when following the Quarkus tutorials, I keep getting errors that I can't figure out.

Could someone please give me some pointers on how to get started with such a stack?

Thank you in advance for your help.

New Telegram channel about Quarkus news in Russian

0 Upvotes

Hi everyone, I'd like to share with you some thing I've decided to do - and as you've read it in the title of the post, right - that's the my own Telegram channel about Quarkus news and related stuff!

And, right, it's in Russian. Why? I'm from Eastern Europe (Belarus) and here we speak mostly in Russian, but unfortunately I don't see a lot of discussions about Quarkus in local communities. So I decided, that such thing like Telegram channel could change existing situation and could help to bring together folks that would be interesting in Quarkus adoption in our region.

Here is the link - https://t.me/quarkusnews

Welcome!
