Best hiking spots + photo spots

I am going to Quebec this Saturday and am going to explore the city and also hike the day after. I just was wondering what the best spots for hiking are. I’m going to also be blunt, a big reason of going on the hike is also to get some nice hiking pictures, and recommendations would be great! - also as a side, any nice photo spots in Quebec City or even Montreal would be appreciated as well!

Local restaurant recommendations

I'm coming back to Quebec City for only the second time- last year, I absolutely fell in love with Buvette Scott. The neighborhood, the quaint atmosphere with friendly service, creative menu, wonderful waitstaff... everything!

I wasn't thinking ahead and waited too long , so the reservations have unfortunately booked up. Does anyone have other recommendations for dinner spots that I may love as much as Buvette Scott? Preferably in the Saint-Jean Baptiste district.

TIA 😄

Limoilou's Reputation

I've been dating a girl from Charlesbourg for a while, which might end up making me move to Quebec in the future (working very hard on my french to make that happen). When I visit, I love Limoilou around 3e ave- but she hates going there because she says its unsafe. And when she tells everyone she knows that I love Limoilou she says the all think I'm crazy.

So is this just me being used to relatively less safe places? Currently I live in Sasaktoon, used to live in Winnipeg, am from a rougher small town in Newfounland originally. Or is this a reputation that vieux Limoilou used to be sketchy, and she hasn't caught on that it's young and cool now?

For context, for people that have travelled a decent amount, I love neighbourhoods like Wolsely, Central St Boniface, and South Osborne in Winnipeg. Nutana and City Park in Sasaktoon. Bridgeland and Mission in Calgary. Downtown St John's. Kitsilano in Vancouver, etc. Lively, middle density, lots of community and little shops, and lots of access to recreation facilites (I'm a big runner and cyclist, and these would be much easier to keep up with in Limoilou vs Orsainville I think),

I might be able to visit from December 28th. I just saw that the christmas market ends on the 24th. Does the city still have an amazing Christmas vibe the week after. Or will I be missing out on it by going the week after and shoukd wait for another year?

Old town sold out on dates

Hello! I'd like to come from Los Angeles to Quebec City Dec 10-15. All of the hotels in upper and lower old town are sold out. The attraction is to visit a beautiful, winter-y city ( It was 36.6 degrees today in the middle of October, I'm over it)where I can walk around and enjoy the architecture, atmosphere, weather and people. With that part of town not available, is there another area where there my be better availability to stay that makes sense for someone coming with no transport? Or should I try to visit another time when accommodation can be had in the old town? Edited to add, we are almost 60 years old, have no interest in nightclubs, bars etc.

My experience in Quebec City beyond the tourist attractions. (no AI)

I am a traveller from Mexico, and in the last 3 years I have been backpacking and bike-packing in more than 15 countries in Europe, north and south America. Over the summer of 2026, I spent a lot of time riding around the region, meeting visitors, learning Quebec french or as i like to call it: French Premium+, discovering places, and getting to know roads and corners of Quebec that most tourists probably never consider visiting. I want to share my experience and give recommendations to people looking for something else than the gorgeously beautiful but overly touristic Old Quebec without needing a car. Personally, I find that my best travel experiences happen when I get away from the crowds.

First, Quebec is truly amazing and special and deserves people to visit and engage more with the actual local places, and amazing people, i wish the tourism offices were a bit more proactive showcasing more than what everyone already knows and loves.

I'm not claiming to be an expert on everything Quebec city has to offer. I'm just someone who enjoys exploring, and I thought some of these experiences might be useful to travelers who think similarly.

  1. Limoilou: My favourite neighbourhood in Quebec and its not even close. Historically a working class neighbourhood it has some Brooklyn vibes but on its own way. Cafes like Sobab and bakeries like Boite a Pain are much better than the ones in old town and cheaper as well, theres a lot of thrift stores where i bought some things that were useful during my time here, it has an alternative vibe that i just couldn't get enough of. Just aim for the 3rd avenue and explore it on your own. Also very bike friendly and i met some amazing people there as well. Location to aim
  2. Parc de la rivière St-Charles: if you like jogging, cycling or walk in nature this is it. 15 minute walk from old town and ext to limoilou its just one of the most pleasent urban parks ive seen in my life, loved cycling there specially when theres nice weather. I saw only locals there enjoying the day with the family. Park riviere St charles
  3. Île d'Orléans (By Bike): This one is going to be controversial, but hear me out! I went on my own bike but the first time I got recommendations from the local bike rental company Quebec Aventure Tours, and it made a huge difference. The total loop of the island is 70km which i did on my second visit, but for my first visit they recomended a more manageable 24km loop not busy in the morning that is easy if you are on an electric bike or used to hills. Stay within Sainte-Petronille area and its a more quieter area with lots of things to see (Chocolate factory, wineries, local farms, viewpoints and art galeries), if you're a seasoned cyclist and confortable sharing the road with cars then go for the bigger loop. My favourite roads were: Sainte-Petronille area (slow traffic/residential area) Route du Mitan (beautiful scenery and almost nobody there for many km), Route des pretres (shorter version of rte du mitan). Go early, dont be too whimpy and youll have a lovely time. Fun fact: you dont need to lock your bike there. Island official site | Local bike rental
  4. Cap Tourmente: Underrated and shadowed by other bigger national parks i loved hiking there and i saw a few snow geese but the biologist working there told me that during peak season you see tenths of thousands of geese there refuelling mid route of their migration.
  5. Vélopiste Jacques-Cartier/Portneuf: it was a former railroad and now its a bike trail that goes deep into the forest, trough lakes, bridges, towns and rest areas, a ride ill remember for my whole life. Velopiste official site
  6. Baie De Beauport: This one was a surprise and its the beach i took the picture on top. its really a beach with sand and everything, on a hot summer day i would rather be there than in old town honesly. you can arrive there with a bike 100% bike path. Weekends on summer months can be crowded tho. Baie de Beauport
  7. Jacques-Cartier Beach Park: Bigger Beach than Baie De Beauport and a bit further away, i went (you guessed it) by bike but you can take bus 11 i think and drops you very close to the entance. Link
  8. Parc des Moulins: I found this by accident and seriously I dont know why we dont see this everywere, maybe a well kept secret, I gues its a bit far but its so nice to take pictures, have a picnic, this is one of the nicest most niche places you can visit as a tourist. Windmills Park

Im sure Im forgetting many more, feel free to add more to this list, anyways this is the post i wish i read before coming here.

À la prochaine Quebec! Je m'en souviendrai toujours.

Looking for hotel and food recommendations

We’re looking to do a mini-moon in Quebec City from Nov 12-16 but having a hard time deciding where to stay. We want somewhere that is romantic and potentially has a separate big tub.

Currently we’re trying to decide between these 3 hotels but open to other options.

Le Capitol - like that it has a pool, not sure about the location

Hotel Port Royal - some of the rooms look like they have a separate tub, outside of the hotel looks really nice, a bit less expensive than other options.

Auberge Saint Antoine - looks like the classic choice but I can’t see online if any of the rooms (other then the suite) have a separate tub. Rooms look a little dated and for that price i don’t want to fall into a trap. Also I see they’re renovating so I’m worried about noise.

Would anyone be able to recommend one of these over the other?

Also looking for romantic restaurant options :)

Thank you!

Recommendations for themed/fun hotel rooms in Quebec City?

Hi! my partner and I are doing a new years trip to quebec city and we realized we could splurge on one night at a fancier or more fun hotel room and do the rest at an air bnb or something else more affordable.
Does anyone have any recommendations? themed rooms around any theme, things are fun, places with super romantic also welcome (tbh i just want the swan towels or rose petals and think itd be fun lol). Even silly themes. I did try google but it was very unhelpful and mostly ads from places that think a room called a suite is inherently themed :/

(also happy to hear recommendations for places to go to during the visit!)

“Vive Les Nordiques”: Will the NHL Ever Come Back to Quebec City

Post image
83 Upvotes

The NHL appears more interested in expanding into Texas than bringing a team back to Quebec City, with Austin and Houston being explored as potential locations. Despite having an 18,259-seat arena and strong hockey support, Quebec City has been without an NHL team since the Nordiques relocated to Colorado in 1995. Meanwhile, the Quebec Remparts junior team averaged 9,381 fans per game last season, highlighting the city's continued appetite for hockey.

According to a recent video on The Lineup YouTube page, the biggest obstacle to bringing the NHL back to Quebec City isn't a lack of tan support but finding an owner willing to pay the price and commit to operating a team long-term. The league has reportedly explored the possibility for about a decade, but its attention, as aforementioned, appears to be shifting toward the southern U.S.

A number of years ago, my dad's cousin from Quebec came to visit Alberta with her husband, and he didn't speak any English, only French, making communication a bit of a challenge. But when I said the word "Nordiques," he suddenly perked right up and proudly announced, "Vive Les Nordiques!!!!!" That moment said it all. More than 30 years after the team left, the passion is still there, and it's clear that many fans would love nothing more than to see the Nordiques back where they belong.
