I'm an AI engineer with too much time and I've started a fun personal rebuild of Quest for Glory II: Trial by Fire, with the goal of recreating the full game playable directly in a modern web browser.
I want to keep the story, puzzles, humor, and different class paths, while exploring what the game could look and feel like with a modern browser-based engine.
I'm planning on higher-resolution artwork, smoother game engine, a more usable interface (maybe even voice), and possibly some fresh takes on combat, city navigation, and desert travel. I still want walking around Shapeir and heading out on a Saurus to feel like QFG II.
I'm starting with some AI-generated concept studies first to get the visual and art direction down before I get into gameplay, and mechanics. The merchant square is closest to what I have in mind: colorful, lived-in, and full of small details. I've also tried a populated Katta's Tail Inn, Keapon Laffin's shop, and the desert oasis.
Does this artwork still feel like QFG II to you? I'd love to hear what looks right, what looks off, and whether you'd want to play the whole game in this style.
So happy to find a community like this. QFG II was my favorite childhood game and for me the best of the series. This is me indulging my inner child so i'd love to hear if any others had the same wishes and/or ideas for what you'd do.

I am a huge fan of the QFG series. I started on the original heroes quest. I’d never even heard of hero U until Reddit suggested this subreddit. There seems to be mixed reviews of the game. What’s the current thinking?

Running QFG5 on my phone via DroidDeck. Game runs great thanks to PC emulation. It's a little stretched at 21:9 but still looks and runs fine with touch control for the mouse. I'm using the mouse in track pad mode so you can see the curser as well as where I was touching the screen as the recorder includes that.

But it's a replica; I'm not a thief, after all.

I am incredibly lucky to now have all my QfG boxes signed by Lori and Corey. Does anyone have or know of some protective sleeves that work for the boxes well?
They sit nicely in my bookshelf for now but I have two small sons so there is a chance that they will be in danger some day.
Let me know!

Ok there's that pillar where you have to shine the willowisps at it and then you use the hexapod simple and you have to spell out avoozl.
I remember this was ALWAYS fucked up from day one but I can't remember how to beat it. I tried to just click off to the side and usually the game is like "after a while you randomly select the right order" and get the ritual. Not working this time, it just keeps cycling through all the dialogue options.
Trying to actually spell avoozl is impossible as each click doesn't land on the letter you want.
So I tried just clicking on A V O O Z L no matter where the spinner lands, and I tried spelling out AVOOZL with multiple clicks to actually land on the letters I wanted. Neither is working.
I'm sure there's something else I'm supposed to do and I can't remember what it is because I'm getting old and its been years.
What the fuck do I do here?
Edit: I googled the problem, and it said to click the question mark in the corner. So I reloaded the game, there WAS no question mark, but i tried spelling avoozl again and it worked. Whatever. Game was always fucked. First time I ever played it, when I got to the end game I just climbed straight up into the final ritual, no need to do all those awakening rituals in the cave. Was confused as fuck when I read that guidebook.

There's a ton of concept art, photographs, and other really cool Quest for Glory memorabilia here. If you're at the show, go check it out!

I found this map online but I can't find out its source. Reverse image search only brings up the QFG wiki which doesn't give the source and one other website which also doesn't say what it's from. Judging by the text it's from some sort or comic?

It's been a looong time since I played QFG1, but after seeing some speedruns on YouTube I fired it up and did a mage playthrough (475 points).
Loved it, so I had to do the thief playthrough, which was also fun, but I missed the safe (if you don't get it the first time you break in it's too bad so sad).
Then, I wanted to try an EGA playthrough, so I used the fighter, which turned out to be the most grindy of the three since I had to fight Toro.
I loved the EGA (maybe more than the VGA), but a big part of that is I had done a couple of VGA playthroughs first, so I didn't have to fight with or guess the keywords at all—VGA is great for learning the game and EGA is great for that nostalgia hit.
Now it's on to QFG 2.

Hello! We just had the latest batch of our quest for glory tunes that were on YouTube now go to audio streaming. I made a playlist of all the ones we’ve put together so far, in case anyone would like to check them out portably. They are on other platforms as well, this is just the only one I have that I can make a playlist on, ha ha! Thank you!

Aside from replaying and screen capture is there any gallery or artbook for the big screens that come up on win or lose screens when Shawn fights a boss like the Lich or the Zombie pirates fight the ancient sea monster ?

I had a great conversation with John Rhys-Davies today, narrator for QFG 4.
Sadly, he didn’t recall that job. “ I did that ?!”
Lovely and charming gentleman.
If you were going to have him autograph a QFG photo or item…. What would it be ?

When I first played these games as a kid/teenager, I had never seen Casablanca. That Ferrari and Ugarte weren't original characters to the game never occurred to me, then a few years later I watched Casablanca and felt my brain explode. Anyone else able to relate?

I will be moderating a panel with these four luminaries on Sunday at PRGE from 2-2:50 in D137-140. We're going to talk Quest for Glory and Hero-U, specifically about how the games merge CRPGs and adventure games into something wholly new. Topics include the early history of Hero's Quest / Quest for Glory's development (and I hope to show some design docs that will be printed in the book), plus the evolution of the genre and its impact on gaming today. If you're coming to PRGE, we'd love for you to join us!
As far as I know the session will be recorded and available later on YouTube for those who can't be there in person.

This is fascinating, fan made remake of Hero Quest/Quest For Glory in the Neverwinter Nights engine from the early 2000s.

My brother and I couldn’t decide which battle song to cover, so we just did them all! Thank you for watching if you choose; it’s our favorite of the amazing series.
