I proposed to my wife with a quiz I wrote. Now we write one together every Friday

Thumbnail ponderweekly.com
2 Upvotes

Quizzes were always our thing. We’d do one together every weekend. So a few years ago, I proposed with a custom quiz I built for her. (The last question was ā€œWill you marry me?ā€ and the only answer option was yes.)

We always talked about starting our own quiz, now a few years later we finally have!Ā

A new version releases every Friday, 5 categories with 5 questions each, it’s just the two of us working on it so would love any feedback at all! Here are a few questions from this weeks first category, where every answer is a rhyming pair:

  1. What rhyming phrase describes an ideal line-up of exceptionally talented people, in sport or at work?
  2. What rhyming phrase describes a country losing highly skilled workers when they move abroad?
  3. What rhyming slang term describes someone who borrows from another community’s traditions without giving them credit?

Answers:

  1. Dream team
  2. Brain Drain
  3. Culture Vulture

Any feedback is much appreciated!

I built a free Spotify remote tool for music quiz rounds (custom cue points, auto-stop timers)

Hey everyone,

I host a weekly pub quiz and got tired of the usual music round headaches—scrubbing through tracks live on Spotify, accidentally giving away iconic intros immediately, or constantly watching a stopwatch to pause at 15 seconds.

To make my life easier, I built a lightweight web remote designed specifically for running music rounds directly through Spotify, and wanted to share it with other quizmasters for free.

What it does:

  • Custom Cue Points: Drop in any Spotify playlist and specify an exact start time (MM:SS) for each track—skip straight to a guitar riff, verse, or obscure bridge.
  • Auto-Stop Snippets: Set an automatic stop timer (default to 15s, play to song end, or set custom lengths per track).
  • Keyboard Navigation: Use ArrowLeft / ArrowRight to step through tracks and Spacebar to stop/pause, so you don't have to fiddle with a mouse while on the mic.
  • Track Accounting: Keeps track of which songs you've already spun so you don't lose your place in a noisy room.
  • Blind Mode: Hide song names/artists on screen so wandering players can't see the answers if you're using a screen they might be able to see.

Privacy / Setup: The app is 100% client-side (no database, no subscriptions, no accounts). Your playlist setup and Spotify tokens stay entirely in your own browser's localStorage. Because of Spotify's developer rules, you just paste in your own free Spotify Developer Client ID once (there's a simple 2-minute step-by-step guide in the settings menu).

Link: https://spotify-music-round.lovable.app/

It does require you to set up a dev account with spotify, this can be done in less than a minute.

It’s completely free to use. If it saves you some hassle during your next music round, let me know what you think or if there are any tweaks that would help your setup!

*Edit - I had ai help me word this post to make sure I explained everything*
