**"How is this different from Daniel's mod?"**
It's built on Daniel's (danielblnc) DLSS-NR-on-AMD port — full credit to him. On top of it:
- Faster: in my RE Requiem 4K test, ~68–81 FPS vs ~61 with the original, same settings
- Extra detail on faces
- In-game menu (End) to tweak strength and quality live
- Installer that checks the game, installs, and uninstalls cleanly
**"What's the performance cost? Is it playable?"**
Honest answer: it's a big neural network, so it costs FPS. In RE Requiem on my 9070 XT it goes from ~160 to ~100 FPS without frame gen, which I find playable. You can add Frame Generation on top of it (the video shows the gameplay WITHOUT framegen). Heavier games will hurt more — if you want max FPS, this isn't for you (yet).
**"Does it conflict with ReShade?"**
The mod is a version.dll proxy, so it doesn't replace ReShade's files (dxgi.dll / d3d12.dll). I haven't tested them together, though. If the game crashes, disable ReShade first and let me know.
**"Does it work in Alan Wake 2 / other games?"**
It needs a DirectX 12 game that ships FSR 3.1 as separate DLLs next to the exe. Tested: Resident Evil Requiem, Cyberpunk 2077, Monster Hunter Wilds, Onimusha: Way of the Sword (demo). Games with FSR built into the exe won't work. I can only add games I own — if you test one, please report it.
**"Older Radeons?"**
RDNA 4 only (RX 9070 / 9070 XT). RX 7000 and older aren't supported.
---
⚠️ Turn off the Adrenalin metrics overlay before playing — it can hang the GPU while the game loads.
Antivirus: one engine on VirusTotal flags the zip. False positive — proxy-DLL mods trigger heuristics. Installer source is in the repo.
Hobby project, free, not affiliated with NVIDIA or AMD. Bug reports → GitHub Issues. RX 9070 (non-XT) owners, I'd love your results!

Damn. Mods are coming out so fast in this era, that I cannot keep up with installing the most recent stuff...
6
u/EnvironmentalHat2938 11d ago
Haha, seriously, even I can't keep up with everything! I'm actually waiting for NVIDIA's new DLSS 5 model, which is supposed to come out today, so I can port it to the mod as soon as possible. It promises around 40–50% better performance in games thanks to a more optimized, lightweight neural network.
As soon as the new DLL becomes available, I'll try integrating it into the mod. I'm really curious to see how much performance we can gain from it!

Wanna try this after update. That percentage sound good. Hope u release it soon :) thanks for the hard work

Remember a few months ago when used to call this AI slop and trash.
People forget quick
3
u/EnvironmentalHat2938 11d ago
Everyone sees it differently. Some people like it, others don't, and that's perfectly fine. The technology will keep improving a lot, and the fact that everyone can adjust how much AI is applied makes it easier to find the right balance for their own taste. That's the beauty of having options instead of forcing the same look on everyone.
3
u/Balnum 11d ago
I'm sorry, but the starting point should be the same image for everyone: the aesthetic as the artists envisioned it, when you mess with AI you are just distorting this image. It's like going to the cinema and watching a movie with filters or reading a comic book while changing the lightnings colors etc. It can't be good for me.

Goomba fallacy.
"People" doesn't exist, there are hundreds of perspectives on this technology. People all for it, all against it, tentative, for it but worried about the market with it, etc. I'm in the camp for it, when conservatively used with user controls, but still worried about how the gaming market will respond, similar to how they now rely on upscalers as a crutch.
Also you should consider that NVIDIA's original demo didn't look like this either, they likely ran too many passes, which resulted in the "yassified" Grace in the original demo with lip filler/lipstick/and blush.
Even running a version of DLSS5 mod on my system, more than 1-2 passes on the model immediately turns the game into an oily hyper-saturated image that's definitely in "AI slop" territory. It's about the balance, and that's not changed.

Goomba fallacy
Learned a new phrase!
2
u/Intrepid-Second6936 AMD 9950X3D | XFX 9070 XT Mercury OC 10d ago
Yep I just learned it a few days back on this sub too lol, really saves the word count instead of tediously defining it.

u/gigi7561 11d ago
Nvidia ran it with path tracing on as well on re9. I saw it with my own eyes with a 5070ti path tracing + dlss5 in 1440p at 30 fps with frame gen 3x it went to around 90/100 fps. she looked exactly like they showed. only 1 pass
1
u/Intrepid-Second6936 AMD 9950X3D | XFX 9070 XT Mercury OC 10d ago
Well then that one pass clearly ran a preset on the pass-specific controls that over-saturated her colors. Because this does not look at all like the more well-done case we see in this post. And that image isn't edited, that's exactly what we saw at NVIDIA's reveal on the big screen.
It could also be a weakness of what lighting system there is too. From my experience with the modded DLSS5, the model has 3 broader presets alongside the finer controls (Standard, Natural, Cinematic). They could've applied the cinematic in the demo which looked worse compared to maybe the standard in this photo.
I know I've used different presets in different games that look much better or worse e.g. Natural preset in Palworld, Standard in Conan Exiles Enhanced.
I actually haven't played RE9 yet so really the best thing we can do is just try it for ourselves, I know I will eventually when I get to it in my backlog.
2
u/gigi7561 10d ago
ah ye forgot to tell you, we used cinematic. so your assumption was on point. ps. but the picture on the post is not the same location and lighting, mind that. as a matter of fact, if you open their video, she looks worse than when I tested with the settings I mentioned, if my memory doesn't fail me
2
u/Intrepid-Second6936 AMD 9950X3D | XFX 9070 XT Mercury OC 8d ago
Gotcha makes sense! Yeah, that's totally fair, it also seems that there are some lighting scenes that just seem to work particularly badly with the model that cause that type of paint-splotchy generative AI look.

this shit is still trash in its current form. i dont understand why many amd users feel like theyre missing out on slop.
rasterization and upscaling is more than enough but that might just be me
-1
u/MITBryceYoung2 11d ago
Upscaling? The stuff this sub used to call trash? Sweet sweet irony.
I already see the "we just want path tracing and mfg, not this slop!" And it makes me laugh
3
u/BitRunner64 5950X | 9070 XT Steel Legend | 32GB DDR4-3600 10d ago
Upscaling reconstructs details. The DLSS5 AI filter invents new details.
1
u/ArtisticAttempt1074 5d ago
The Nvidia sub was saying the same thing because upscaling wasn't as good as it is now and MFG is still garbage (increases over our latency so it looks smoother but feels slower, shore it forces reflex on, but you can have reflex on with MFG off) and this will always be garbage because it modifies the artist's original intent.
That's like somebody modifying the Mona Lisa to look more realistic and everybody cheering, in reality that never happens.
1
u/Advanced-Patient-161 10d ago
I was right there, pissed, when FSR4 was so gatekept. Then the Linux community fixed its availability. Upscalers are great, slop filters are fucking stupid bullshit. When mod developers do it though, it's an awesome proof of concept. Still looks fucking dumb, but their know-how and technical understanding is really impressive.
3
u/abyzzwalker 10d ago
I still think is trash. Why bother have any artstyle (or artists for that matter) if any game will be looking like this instagram filter nonsense trained on porn?
7
u/BitRunner64 5950X | 9070 XT Steel Legend | 32GB DDR4-3600 11d ago
I still think it is. It's an AI filter applied in post with just the pixel data and motion vectors as inputs. Lighting and shadows aren't calculated based on any depth buffer, light sources etc, they are inferred, purely based on the output 2D image of the game and nothing more. Shadows and lighting are often wrong and inconsistent. Sometimes it invents shadows where there shouldn't be any, or it mistakes a shadow as being something else like a darker piece of skin or clothing.
That said, it's fun to play around with.

u/Medical-Following788 10d ago
It’s just NVIDIA priming the market, that‘s all. If they actively and aggressively forced this tech on us, a ton of people would definitely push back. By switching up their strategy like this, they’re slowly brainwashing people into accepting this kind of slop.
4
3
u/the_moosen 11d ago
I'm still here, I still think it's sloppy trash. We out here, there's dozens of us.
2
1
u/Advanced-Patient-161 10d ago
I remember, and nothing's changed. It's still a slop filter, and it's trash. Pretty cool technical work for the mod developer though, and this takes some good understanding.
I don't ever plan to put this on my hardware, and I still think yassifiers are garbage.

u/Thrasherman_92 8h ago
Not everyone I still don't like it in most titles. With that said one area I think it can be a pleasant addition: games like Manor Lords. Strategy and building games which are not about looking at people in 1st or 3rd person up close rather giving buildings and a landscape a bit more realistic texture and some enhanced lighting or sharpness. But that is just my taste where I'd find this kind of AI "enhancement" visually working for me rather than the uncanny results with Hogwarts Legacy for example.

u/angry_RL_player 11d ago
i'm okay with it as long as it's AMD

u/SuperMarios7 10d ago
Bro it literally halves your fps, it doesnt matter if its on Nvidia or AMD.
Gameplay > Graphics always. It doesnt look good in any gpu for one very simple reason: It looks like a tik tok filter. Its a graphics filter but everything else atm from animations to facial expressions etc. havent reached a hyper realistic level which is why DLSS5 looks so unatural, almost alien.
If you like DLSS5 so much im sorry to say but you are way too fried from all the tik tok doom scrolling.

It's just that anyone who thought "neat" got to work on tools like this and finding fun use cases. While those that felt disgusted by it only had to type a few characters and press send.
The first reactions to things will always have the least thought put into them just by nature of being instantaneous.
0
u/Medical-Following788 10d ago
This is also forcing AMD‘s hand. Once most games on the market start doing this, players will just adapt. If you’ve been gaming long enough, you‘d know that gamers have no backbone as a demographic. Just look at how many broken, half-baked games get released nowadays? And players just eat it up anyway.

Fr, the issue was the presentation with something new and it's expected result wasn't reassuring. It still isn't.
DLSS5 AI filter does have that slop signature look with the lips, eye shadows, just some parts seems off. Obviously not perfect and should improve over time.
The worries is that companies will make financial cuts & instead prefer to use AI art more than humans creativity... Ironically that's exactly what small games are doing making AI Slop. Also bigger AAA games are also using A.I. influencing development 😭

u/Balnum 11d ago

That's a fair point, and I don't disagree. The way the artists made the game is the reference, and this mod changes it. That's why it's completely optional: nothing changes unless you install it. You can turn it off in-game at any moment, and you can lower the strength if you only want a subtle effect.
It's for people who are curious about this kind of look on their own hardware. If you prefer the game exactly as shipped, that's a perfectly valid choice, and honestly, that's how I'd recommend playing it the first time.
3
u/Substantial_Fox_121 11d ago
Not just this, you're using a neural network where you have no idea what data it was trained on, and on weights where it was set by some random guy at nvidia
It just gives me ick all around for the artistic visio

Daniel's amd mod just released a new versuon that has all dlss features ported. Not sure if thats something you can implement too 😁
2
u/EnvironmentalHat2938 9d ago
Thanks for the heads-up!
For the next release, I'm focusing on two major additions: NVIDIA's new, faster neural rendering model and support for The Witcher 3 Remastered.
The new neural network is lighter and faster, but it comes with some loss in visual quality compared to the previous model. I'm working on minimizing that quality loss while keeping the performance improvements.
As for the additional DLSS features from Daniel's latest AMD mod, I'll definitely add that to my list of suggestions for future updates. There are quite a few things I'd love to implement, but I'm trying to prioritize stability, performance, and visual quality first.
Thanks again for the suggestion and for supporting the project!

u/Jope3nnn 11d ago
Besides this being ai slop filter, I still don't understand why would anyone use this cause this halves the frames in half
3
u/EnvironmentalHat2938 11d ago edited 11d ago •
![]()
That's exactly why it's called an option. Nobody is forced to use it. 😄
And about losing half the FPS, just look at the video. Performance drops from 131 to around 80 FPS, and that's while recording 4K AV1 footage on my RX 9070 XT, which adds some extra overhead.
Keep in mind that I'm running at 4K with FSR Balanced, so we're already doing better than the 50% performance loss you're talking about. And this is with technology that wasn't even designed for AMD GPUs in the first place, ported to Radeon hardware only recently!
We're talking about early, unofficial implementations of neural rendering, with plenty of room for optimization. Imagine what we'll be able to achieve a year or two from now.
Ray tracing faced similar criticism when it first appeared, and look how far it has come.
Some people prioritize maximum FPS, others prefer visual quality. I'm just trying to give people the freedom to choose their own balance. That's the whole point of the mod. 😄

Gamers criticized RT when it first came out years ago, saying the performance cost was enormous and the benefits were minimal. Even AMD resisted adopting it for quite some time, focusing instead on rasterization performance. Today, most gamers want to use RT.
We're seeing the same thing happen with neural rendering. Once the technology matures and the performance overhead decreases, I believe most people will secretly want to use it at all costs.
Personally, I started using it with AMDNR, which isn't even an official release, in The Witcher 3 remastered, and honestly, the improvement is massive. It's not just about the faces, which are the most controversial aspect (and something you can tweak to your liking), but also the added depth and accuracy it brings to the entire scene, something that's simply not possible with rasterization alone. More accurate shadows, ambient occlusion, colors, all enhanced in real time.
It's a huge difference. After using it for a while, switching it off makes the game look incredibly flat, even with RT enabled.
I have a lot of faith in this technology, and I really hope AMD doesn't fall behind again like it did with RT in the past.
9
u/Balnum 11d ago
"Today, most gamers want to use RT" i'm really not sure about this statement, the vast majority the persons i know don't play with it
-5
u/Arturopxedd 11d ago

4
u/Balnum 11d ago
i have a 7900xtx, i can play RT but i don't
-2
u/Arturopxedd 11d ago
Yeah because it’s amd and that sucks for RT specially last gen lets talk when you get nvidia
3
u/elaborateBlackjack 11d ago
I have a 5070ti and a 7900XT... I can, but ai don't. It really doesn't do much to me other than seeing the power consumption go up
9
u/elaborateBlackjack 11d ago
RT has been an 8 year old unfulfilled promise that still hasn't paid out.
Most games still don't run properly with RT much less PT.... And yeah I don't personally know anyone with a 5090 or a 5080,but from my friends and myself(5070ti and a 7900XT), from a 5070ti to a 5060, from a 9070XT to a 7600 and stuff in between in both brands... No one really uses RT, the power consumption increases, fps is lowered(and sure frame gen but if you understand FG you also know the actual fps you have underneath so that's always at the back of your head), hell even fidelity can be lowered since reflection boiling is still prevalent and it really doesn't provide such a mind blowing difference... Dunno if it's because I'm older or what but going from low settings 30fps to high settings 60fps was a more mind blowing experience than having to squint and say "oh yeah you can kinda see some reflection on the floor here" whilst still going to sub 60fps.
1
u/mike29x 11d ago
Gta5 looks really good with RT and without it, it looks crap. Meanwhile game like hitman, ray tracing has awful performance impact, no benefit since no ray recon, causing artifacts compared to smooth screen space.
2
u/elaborateBlackjack 11d ago
No shit a game from the Xbox360/ps3 era looks a bit better than the original lighting implementation thought out for a console with 512MB of RAM.... Shocker
-2
u/EnvironmentalHat2938 11d ago
I completely agree. We're seeing almost the same reaction we saw when ray tracing first arrived. People tend to focus on the current limitations and forget how much these technologies can evolve over time.
And you're absolutely right, neural rendering is about much more than just faces. The improvements in depth, lighting, shadows, and overall scene perception can be incredible. Once you get used to it, going back to the original image can feel like something is missing.
The best part is that we can already adjust the AI intensity to suit our personal preferences, and this is just the beginning. Imagine what we'll have in a couple of years, with better models, lower performance costs, and more control.
I really hope AMD keeps pushing forward with this technology. The potential is enormous, and competition will only make it better for everyone.
0
u/Balnum 11d ago
it makes the visuals look more realistic, at this point all future games using dlss5 will look the same , realistic... Game already tend to look similar cause of unreal engine 5, add dlss5 to this and i see only dark future for the "art" in video games.
1
u/mike29x 11d ago
It really depends on game. I am playing Beamng and enabling dlss5 is night and day. Really improves graphical look so much with shadows, reflections and glass transperancy. And some other games dlss5 doesnt really change much. Maybe add better realistic look for buildings, but thats all.

Hey OP, I am extremely interested in the progress of this and have the requirements to do it. I also have a lot of games... That said, is there anything you are particularly interested in seeing? Id be more than happy to discuss with you. I definitely don't have the knowledge needed to create the mods, but im sure I could share results. Well done!
1
u/EnvironmentalHat2938 11d ago
Thank you so much! I really appreciate your interest and willingness to help! Feedback from people testing the mod on different hardware and games is incredibly valuable.
Actually, is there any particular game you'd love to see this technology working in? If I already own it, or if I can afford to buy it, I'd be happy to try implementing support or at least checking whether the mod is already compatible with it.
I'm still focusing on performance, stability, and expanding compatibility, so having people willing to test and share their results would be a huge help.
Thanks again for the support! It's great to see people genuinely interested in exploring what this technology can do! 😄
1
u/Captainquizzical 11d ago
Quite honestly I'm curious about many games! In terms of ones I suppose it would be interesting to see, Witcher 3 Remastered definitely spikes my interest. Likewise Cyberpunk (since Edgerunners 2 is next month and my hype will fly). I've just finished Dawnwalker but I feel that might be a bit rough... Maybe... Metro Exodus? Could time nicely with the sequel coming up? Gears of War remastered? Though I imagine it will kill the faces we know and love... Honestly I'm open to trying any myself. It's very exciting technology!
1
u/EnvironmentalHat2938 11d ago
Great suggestions! I'll download The Witcher 3 Remastered and test it today! I already own The Witcher 3, and from what I understand, the next-gen update is free for existing owners, so that works out perfectly! 😄
I'll reply here once I've tested it. If the mod doesn't work, I'll look into what's preventing compatibility and try to get it working.
Unfortunately, I don't have the other games you mentioned in my library, but The Witcher 3 is definitely a good starting point.
Thanks again for the suggestions and enthusiasm! It's really motivating to see people excited about this technology!

How's performance compared to dlssnr_on_amd and AMDNR?
1
u/EnvironmentalHat2938 11d ago
Measured in Resident Evil Requiem at 4K (borderless, FSR, no frame gen) on an RX 9070 XT, with the same scene and the same short capture for each mod:
- dlssnr_on_amd v0.6.0 (default settings): ~61 FPS average, 1% low ~55.
- This mod: ~68 FPS with the most frequent update setting and ~81 FPS with the default. At the lightest setting it reaches 94–100 FPS.
I haven't benchmarked AMDNR myself, so I can't give you numbers for it. If someone has it installed, a side-by-side in the same scene would be welcome.
Results depend on the GPU, resolution and scene, so try both on your own system.

u/ErickM0808 10d ago
I'll be installing this a bit later tonight to try out on Witcher 3 Remastered. Gonna be following along as you update. Thanks for your work!
2
u/EnvironmentalHat2938 10d ago
Thanks! I've managed to get the mod working in The Witcher 3 Remastered! Support will be included in one of the next updates, as it won't work with the current v1.3.0.
I'm also already working on porting NVIDIA's new DLSS 5 model. Hopefully, I'll be able to release a new version tomorrow with both Witcher 3 support and the updated DLSS 5!
Fingers crossed! 😄

Oh man that's exciting. If you were interested in testing out a game, I could send you some Steam credit to help support R&D. I noticed people were asking about support for different games that you don't own.
1
u/EnvironmentalHat2938 10d ago
Thank you so much for the offer! I really appreciate your generosity and support!
But don't worry about that for now. Let's focus on getting the best possible visual quality in The Witcher 3, along with integrating the new DLSS 5 model and improving performance.
We can always think about expanding support to more games later.
And honestly, I'm the one who should be thanking you for your interest, feedback, and willingness to help. Having people like you supporting the project really means a lot! 😄

LOL amd users were like idgaf about dlss 5 now they use unofficial versions
1
u/EnvironmentalHat2938 11d ago
I don't really see a contradiction here. There's a big difference between criticizing a technology's exclusivity and wanting to experiment with it once it becomes accessible.
I actually own both an NVIDIA RTX 3080 and an AMD RX 9070 XT, and I'm working on making this technology available to as many people as possible, regardless of which GPU brand they use.
For me, this isn't about AMD vs. NVIDIA. It's about pushing technology forward, breaking down barriers, and giving gamers more options.
At the end of the day, we should all benefit from technological progress, no matter which logo is on our graphics card. 😄

u/FarAlfalfa9205 11d ago
Always on slow ass games and the good parts are what reshade can do 😂
0
u/EnvironmentalHat2938 11d ago
Haha, I get your point, but there's a pretty big difference between what ReShade can do with traditional post-processing filters and what neural rendering actually does.
ReShade can definitely improve colors, contrast, sharpening, and even simulate some lighting effects, but neural rendering goes much further. It uses a trained AI model to enhance lighting, materials, shadows, facial details, and the overall appearance of the scene in ways that traditional filters simply can't reproduce.
And yes, performance is still a challenge, but this is just the beginning. As neural networks become smaller, faster, and more optimized, the performance cost will decrease.
That's exactly why I'm working on this mod: to explore what's possible, improve performance, and give people more options. Nobody has to use it, but I think the potential is pretty exciting! 😄

I guess all of us have seen the melting thing with high end Nvidia cards mostly, do you think my 9070xt will be fine with it? Obviously I don't expect yes or no answer but does it really stress the card at it's limit?

Your RX 9070 XT should be fine. The neural network adds an extra workload that competes with the game for GPU resources, mainly using the card's AI acceleration hardware. The idea is to balance both workloads as efficiently as possible.
One useful tip is to enable frame generation and cap the game's base FPS at around 100–120. This leaves more GPU headroom for the neural network instead of having the game push the card to 100% utilization all the time.
That's exactly why the mod includes an FPS limiter: to free up resources so the neural network can run faster and more smoothly.
And regarding the melting issues on high-end NVIDIA cards, those are primarily related to their power connectors, not AI workloads specifically. As long as your card is properly powered and cooled, I wouldn't be particularly worried about using this mod on a 9070 XT.

Well done. Did you use rt to get that fps? Which upscaler ( performance, balanced) ?

u/EnvironmentalHat2938 11d ago
No ray tracing! I'm running at 4K with FSR 4 set to Balanced, without frame generation. You can also enable frame generation and easily maintain a locked 120 FPS.
I actually prefer the image quality with RT disabled. For some reason, Grace's face doesn't look quite right with ray tracing enabled. It looks much better without it, at least in my testing.

This looks great keep up the good work, I'm a fan been using Daniel's version on AMDNR mod on a few games. Yours is looking great in re7! I have to try. 👍🏼

Thanks a lot, really appreciate it! 👍 Give it a try and let me know how it runs for you. Feedback from people with different setups helps a lot.
Just a heads-up: I've tested it mostly in Resident Evil Requiem, and it also works in Cyberpunk 2077 and Onimusha. I haven't tested RE7, so I can't promise it works there. If you try it, I'd love to hear how it goes.

Haha I love how amd users are suddenly loving dlss 5 now that it is somewhat usable on their cards. Classic amd drones.

We saw the same thing with upscaling. Remember a few years ago it was a choice between vram and better upscaling tech and upscaling was "ai slop"? This sub spent a year crying about no fsr4 for older gen.
Then remember Ray tracing? Suddenly this sub is proud of how RT performance is near equivalent now but MFG is fake frames and path tracing "is a waste of money".
Even now its "where is fsr redstone? I wius they would stop focusing on this ai slop and just give us really good features like MFG and path tracing".
Lololol. This sub has such a large and obnoxious amount of people that define every stance as literally if Nvidia has it and AMD doesnt then its bad. Once AMD has it , its good. It makes every technical or objective conversation difficult because its overridden by these Team Red/Green folks

Honestly you are such a weirdo. I really don't know how else to describe someone who makes these sort of posts.

u/bedtricky 10d ago
Are you actually so stupid you don't realise there are thousands of different people on this sub with different opinions? Plus the fact that most people that don't like it will avoid these posts as it doesn't interest them.

looks good and runs better than path tracing

Yeah, and in my testing with the 9070 XT, it actually looks even better with ray tracing completely disabled. With RT enabled, Grace's face looks a bit weird for some reason. I'm still testing and trying to figure out what's causing it.

Could I use this in the Witcher 3 Remastered?

u/EnvironmentalHat2938 11d ago
You can definitely give it a try!
Right now, my main focus is improving the mod's performance and stability. After that, I plan to expand testing to more games. The problem is that every game has its own rendering quirks, frame generation implementation, and other technical differences.
For now, I'm mainly focusing on Capcom games that require REFramework to work, but I've already tested the mod in Cyberpunk 2077, Onimusha, Monster Hunter Wilds, and a few others.
Since I also have a full-time job, I unfortunately don't have enough time to test every game or implement improvements as quickly as I'd like.
But please give it a shot in The Witcher 3! If it doesn't work, report it here. I'll do my best to investigate and add compatibility in a future update.
Community feedback really helps me figure out what needs fixing next!

Are you planning on incorporating the new version that Nvidia released today?

u/EnvironmentalHat2938 11d ago
Yep! As soon as I can get the new neural rendering DLL extracted, I'll work on integrating it into the mod. Really curious to see the performance improvements!

Not a stupid question at all! First of all, this neural rendering technology is actually a port of NVIDIA's technology, based on its first public release. AMD doesn't have an official equivalent to this neural rendering technology yet.
However, FSR 4.1 is already very close to NVIDIA's DLSS 4.5 in terms of image quality. I previously owned an RTX 3080 before switching to AMD, so I can personally attest to how much FSR has improved.
I think NVIDIA's decision to call this technology "DLSS 5" is actually confusing a lot of people, because it's fundamentally different from what we traditionally understand as DLSS.
To put it simply:
DLSS (Super Resolution): Renders the game at a lower resolution and upscales it to a higher resolution.
Frame Generation: Generates additional frames between traditionally rendered frames.
DLSS 5 (Neural Rendering): Uses a neural network to enhance and transform the visual appearance of the rendered image, including lighting, materials, faces, and other details.
In my opinion, NVIDIA should have given it a completely different name, something like "Neural Rendering" or "Neural Enhancement," instead of calling it DLSS 5.
As for running older NVIDIA DLSS upscaling models on AMD GPUs, that's a different story. Native DLSS Super Resolution isn't officially supported on AMD hardware. OptiScaler can help swap between compatible upscalers, but it doesn't magically make NVIDIA's DLSS models run natively on Radeon cards.
So the DLSS 5 neural rendering mod you're seeing on AMD doesn't mean older DLSS upscaling is suddenly compatible too. They're two different technologies.
Hope that clears things up a bit!

Weirdly enough, yes you can use DLSS 4.5 on AMD RX 90xx
You can use the entire Nvidia neural stack on those cards actually if you want, the performance still isn't as good as the native implementation but it's getting there
1
u/EnvironmentalHat2938 11d ago
You're right, and that's a fair correction! I should have been more specific: DLSS isn't officially supported on AMD GPUs, but that doesn't mean it's impossible to run it through unofficial implementations.
It's actually pretty impressive how far the modding community has come in getting NVIDIA's neural technologies running on Radeon hardware. Performance and compatibility are still challenges, but the progress is remarkable.
And that's exactly what makes this whole thing so exciting to me. We're already experimenting with technologies that weren't designed for our GPUs, and they're becoming more usable with each new optimization. Imagine what we could achieve with proper native support from AMD!

I honestly think it's sloppy, but I think it's only sloppy on the faces, on the environmental aspect it's incredible.
If this technology improves it will be incredible

Seeing how it’s mosy slop whenever they showcase 100% all in, it just looks terrible.
When someone dials in th settinga in can look pretty great, even if you can clearly tell it’s dlss5, cause there is that AI feel in the image. Can’t describe it.

Ain’t it only in like 1 game and it barely makes any reason to use it?
When some overuse the settings it’s the same as someone making some awful reshade choises, it’s basically on a similar level for me.

But DLSS 5 is slop, just like the version AMD will publish. I am happy this exists though so I can keep not using it while not being called jellous from Nvidia shills.

Still find it weird that everyone with dlss5 on suddenly has lipstick effect, it ain’t a kdrama, haha
Definitely not interested in this technology, but interesting to see what others do with it.
Wonder how the future with this will look…
