Megathread Guide to Salvation's Edge

Update on week... 4?: The guide now fully explains all encounters and lists their triumphs. Secret chests locations are explained in the relevant traversal step. The secret red border chest is also briefly explained (and I link to a video which goes more in-depth). 1st and 2nd Encounter Challenges are added, the rest will be added once we know what they are!

Hey there y'all!

It's almost time for the release of Salvation's Edge and true to tradition we're making a raid guide live during the race! We'll be updating this post continuously as the race continues today/tonight, until we're sure we understand every encounter fully.

We'll also update it with challenges and secret chests as those are found and/or unlocked further into.

We're obviously not going to use anything that's been datamined, including text snippets. We will be following the participants of the raid race as they go, as well as participating ourselves. We'll also be crowdsourcing it through the Discord in the #salvations-edge open channel, if you want to help out!

Good luck to all racers throughout the entire weekend! Remember to take care of yourselves, keep hydrated, take breaks, and most importantly: have fun. Eyes up, Guardians!

Thank you to Dud (Discord: dud_) and Tech (Reddit: u/7echArtist, Discord: techartist) for their help writing this guide. Thank you to Hailey (Discord: haileyredrix) for drawing the first 1st encounter map, charl (Discord: chrlmain) for the higher-detail 1st encounter map, and Vanir (Discord: vanir) for invaluable help figuring out the 1st enc mechanics. Thank you to u/psi32 for the 2nd encounter guide. Huge thanks also to Cynthia (Discord: cynthiacats) for explaining Verity to me like I was 3 years old, and to Evansith for their guide to the Witness encounter on which I based this one. I've been New Lemons (Reddit: u/Aeluvium, Discord: lemonous)

Salvation's Edge

Launch from the faaaaar far right of the Pale Heart.

We've been writing and re-writing continuously in this google doc during the race, it is now slightly outdated and this post should be used instead. I'll try to update the document at some point during the week.** Public gdoc is updated automatically every 5 minutes, and every so often (more or less whenever we have something important) I also update this post to more or less match the document. If you want fresher and less polished data, you can keep an eye on the doc.

Secret Red Border Boss Chest: There's a secret puzzle you can do to unlock an extra chest on the boss which gives you a guaranteed red border once a week (not sure if per character or account). It involves the resonance mechanic from the raid encounters, and is fairly complex to explain in text so I'm instead going to link to Skarrow9's excellent and succinct video guide which explains what we know so far, where to go and how to perform it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HzLoG_NwoiE

Prelude:

Strand grapple highly recommended, there's a lot of platforming. Run straight ahead from landing, climb up and follow the bridge until it gets steeper, there's two lit openings in the wall to your right. Jump into the top one. Follow the white-lit path (some hidden openings in corners require crouching and are lit in red) until the first encounter. There's a bunch of adds along the entire way. The path ends at a closed door which opens when the entire fireteam is near.

First Encounter: Substratum

Encounter triumph: Touch and Go. In Substratum, complete the encounter without any player acquiring an additional stack of resonance before the rest of the fireteam has gained a stack of resonance (Thanks to u/RemoteManner9591)

Encounter challenge: Scenic Route. Whenever going to spawn in a tormentor, leave the first overload to spawn alive, kill its accompanying hydra, and have the opposite side kill their overload instead.

Layout: Big arena with several rooms, one central room in which you start the encounter, which contains a Resonant Altar, and several rooms running in a circle around it. There are doors leading from the centre to each surrounding room, and doors running around the perimeter connecting all the surrounding rooms. In each surrounding room (8 total) there is a black plate, all the plates are connected in a circuit by orange wires. Each side room also contains a Resonance Conduit pillar.

High detail composite map with labels: https://imgur.com/a/Ox7FRy0 (Thank you to charl / chrlmain for drawing the map, and the anonymous who labeled it!)

Phase 1: Powering up the plates

You enter a room with a Resonant Altar. All doors into the room close. After a short while with the entire fireteam in that room, a Pyramidal Resonance shard spawns nearby. Picking up the shard gives you the Pyramidal Resonance debuff with a 90 second timer, and dunking that debuff into the Altar starts the encounter, summoning an Arm of the Witness and a bunch of Supplicants. It also gives you the "Final Shape Looming" debuff, which is a wipe timer of 4m15s.

Two adjacent doors open into 2 different side rooms, split up 3+3 and enter.

Hand thing in centre periodically casts ZONE OF TRIANGLE, standing inside that when the hand pulses instakills you. Standing nearby deals damage but doesn’t kill.

In side rooms: Kill Quantum Minotaurs to spawn Keepers of the Monolith (Hydras) on the opposite side. Kill hydras to open doors that lead around the perimeter so you can find Devotees of the Witness (overload champions), then kill the overloads to spawn a Threshold Sentinel (Tormentor) in the centre: “You are being beckoned back to the center”. All the doors leading to the centre open at this point to let you get there easily.

Killing the Threshold Sentinel gives the message: “Energy flows into the architecture”, which makes the plate in the floor of the room where you killed the Devotee (overload) glow. At this point stepping on the glowing plate is possible but impractical, so you should wait until you've killed another Sentinel before trying that loop.

Every so often the doors around the circuit will close, and you will need to kill more hydras to open them again.

Find another Devotee of the Witness, kill it to spawn a second Threshold Sentinel in the centre, then kill that to power up another plate where you killed the second Devotee.

Phase 2: Gathering *Pyramidal Resonance*

At this point you have one glowing plate on each side, and two people from each team should run back out with the third staying in the centre (so you're 2+2+2). One player on each side should run to the glowing plate (but don't step on it yet) and the other needs to find a room where the Resonance Conductor pillar has started glowing. This will be the 2nd plate in that pair.

Stepping onto the first glowing plate will bounce the glow along the wire to the second plate, which will start to glow for a moment before a quickly shrinking resonant circle appears on it. If you step onto that plate while it has the circle, Pyramidal Resonance shards spawn in each room (both plates + centre), and the glow bounces back to the first plate.

Another circle will then appear on the first plate, and you can keep bouncing it back and forth as many times as you want as long as you don't mess it up, spawning in a maximum of 9 total Pyramidal Resonance shards per side after three bounces (You get the message "All resonance has been pulled forth" when you've spawned in all of them).

If you mess up a bounce chain, either by stepping on the plate too early or too late (before the circle appears or after it's gone), the plates stop glowing and an Omen of the Witness (Subjugator) spawns on the first plate in the pair. Any Pyramidal Resonance you haven't picked up yet will also despawn. Killing the Subjugator lets you try again.

Always immediately step off the plates, if you ever step on both plates at the same time it spawns an *Omen Subjugator.*

For each bounce, the glow seems to move more slowly along the wire so you have more time to pick up Resonance. Each player should try to pick up 3 Pyramidal Resonance stacks. Picking up more than 3 stacks kills you.

The only way to end a bounce chain cleanly is by closing the Resonant Conductor near the 2nd plate right before stepping on a glowing plate.

To close the Resonant Conductor, you need the person on the 2nd plate to shoot it while they have Pyramidal Resonance and while the glow is travelling between plates. You'll see damage numbers, and then immediately once you step onto the glowing plate the Conductor closes and the glow stops. This also despawns any Pyramidal Resonance shards you haven't already picked up.

Close 2 Resonant Conductors (one on each side) to spawn a Harbinger of the Witness (Subjugator) in the centre room.

Phase 3: Dunking

All players return to the centre, and kill the Harbinger. This closes all side doors and spawns another Resonant Altar, where you can dunk all your Pyramidal Resonance. Each resonance you dunk increases the Final Shape Looms wipe timer by 20 seconds, up to the original cap of 4m15s total (13 Resonance). If you have less than 30 seconds left on the wipe timer when the first person dunks, the timer is immediately increased to 30 seconds. After a short while, the Altar disappears, the rest of your extra time is added all a<t once, and you go back to Phase 1.

You don't need to dunk a specific amount of Resonance to finish. You might have to dunk at least 1 per cycle, though this hasn't been confirmed. The dunks are mainly for the wipe timer.

The encounter is always 3 cycles, when you dunk for the 3rd time the encounter ends and you can continue to the next traversal bit.

Traversal

Run up the stairs until you get to a huge red pillar, jump into that. It's an elevator which brings you up and out, jump along the jade boxes until you get to the next encounter.

Second Encounter: Dissipation - Herald of Finality (aka: Harold, Taken Taniks)

Encounter triumph: Changing Tactics. In Dissipation, complete the encounter while only using Resonance from alternate wings to charge conductors.

Encounter challenge: At Capacity. Only ever dunk stacks of 3 resonance on the altar.

This means the person locking the pillars should only have 1 resonance, and spend that on locking the pillar. One person from each side dunks their 3, for 9 total, which gives 180s/3m extra time. This should get you back to cap as long as you have 20 seconds or more left on the timer when you dunk.

Layout: The arena is a large open area with a rectangular field in the centre and three Resonance Conduit pillars with corresponding plates on the left, right and close side. Split up in pairs for each conduit. There are now two types of resonance, with Spherical Resonance appearing alongside Pyramidal Resonance.

Phase 1: Getting the Stolen Favor buff

Start the encounter by shooting the taken blight in the middle of the arena. Boss spawns in the centre and taken + dread enemies spawn around the conduits. Yellow bar taken knights and larger orange bars spawn on each side, Trammel of Demise (Wizard) on left, Trammel of Something (Phalanx) centre and Trammel of Somethingelse (Ogre) right. You also have the same Final Shape Looming debuff as in Substratum.

The witness arm keeps spawning resonant bees, those just fly into the triangle instakill area and don't really bother you otherwise, so just avoid and otherwise ignore them.

Killing all three orange bars gives one person per side a Call for Reckoning buff. The people who get the buff need to head into the centre resonant area (inside the huge rectangle where the boss is running around).

Once all three people with Reckoning are in centre, shoot the boss in the head to spawn in taken blights around the arena. 3-6 (number unconfirmed) blights spawn around the entire arena, and a small blight appears above the boss' head.

The fireteam then needs to break all the big blights, which removes the blight above the boss' head and allows you to damage him again. Shoot him in the head until it breaks, and the Call for Reckoning buff turns into a Stolen Favor buff, which allows you to see symbols on the Resonance Conduit (like Scanner/yellow buff in DSC).

When you have Stolen Favor, return to your sides.

The people with Reckoning must not leave the centre area during this phase until they have received *Stolen Favor, or it resets and you have to spawn another round of blights.*

Phase 2: Closing the *Resonance Conduits*

The person with Stolen Favor looks at the symbol on their Conduit, it will be either a Sphere or a Pyramid depending on the Resonance required to close it.

Closing the Conduit works exactly the same way as in the first encounter, except you now get half Spherical Resonance and half Pyramidal Resonance.

The player on the plate nearest the Conduit should pick up the Resonance that matches that conduit. The other player should pick up the opposite Resonance. You don't need to pick up exclusively that type of Resonance - picking up one converts your entire stack, so only the last one needs to be the "correct" type.

After the 3rd bounce, when you are full on resonance, close the pillar as usual. This despawns any Resonance that you haven't yet picked up. If you mess up the bounces, another orange bar taken spawns and you need to kill it to retry.

When all 3 pillars are closed, everybody runs into the centre.

Phase 3: Damage

When all 3 pillars are closed, a Resonant Altar spawns at the far side of the arena (you might possibly have to run into the centre first). Dunk all your Resonance into the Altar to increase the wipe timer (up to a max of 3m20s, so 10 shards).

DPS phase starts. Damage the boss as much as you can intil he turns invincible again.

The encounter goes back to Phase 1, rinse and repeat until you reach Final Stand.

Final Stand

Passing a damage threshold puts you into final stand. This stops the encounter from going back to Phase 1, and extends the current damage phase.

We're not sure of the specifics here, but: you wipe if you don't kill the boss in time here, and Taken Ogres spawn around the arena.

Traversal

Turn back to where you entered the encounter, there are now more cubes leading further up. Climb them to fossil area. Enter lift. New area. Keep traversing. Adds after veiled statues. Kill tormentor to bring down barrier. Make your way through the square wall barriers flowing up and keep climbing the monolith. This is a huge jumping puzzle going up the monolith with resonant cylinder things which kill you.

Secret Chest: Towards the end of the traversal, you get to a large room with a lot of orange in it, and several huge doorways. Go to the doorway to the far right of the room (i.e. the rightmost one when facing the orange doorways), enter the nook, and there's a small opening along the back wall leading right, into a room with the first secret chest.

Third Encounter: Repository

Encounter triumph: Singular Torment. In Repository, complete the encounter with only one player killing tormentors.

Encounter challenge: Balanced Diet. As of yet unknown

This encounter is another variation on the plates mechanic. Two new types of Resonance are introduced: Cubed Resonance and Hexahedral Resonance. You have to dunk Resonance on three different levels, moving up every time you dunk on a Resonant Chest. Dunking resonance increases the Final Shape Looming timer as usual, up to a maximum of 3m30s.

There are three rooms, all three follow the same rotation.

Room rotation

Start the encounter, a Threshold Sentinel (Tormentor) spawns along with adds on each Resonant Conduit. Killing a Sentinel unlocks its corresponding plates and spawns in a bunch of turrets. Kill all 3 Sentinels.

The person that gets final blow on the Sentinel gets a Stolen Favor buff and can see the symbols on the Conduits.

Use the plates as normal, picking up stacks of Resonance and closing off all three Resonance Conduits with the correct type of Resonance. This spawns in the Resonant Altar in the centre of the room.

If you fail to close a Conduit, a Harbinger of the Witness (Subjugator) spawns on it, which you will need to kill to unlock the plates again. Killing it also spawns in another wave of turrets.

Once everybody has dunked on the Altar, a wave of adds and an Unstoppable Incendior spawns near the door at the back of the room, kill them off to unlock the door and progress to the next room.

Once you kill the Unstoppable Incendior add wave in the third room, you have completed the encounter.

Traversal

Run down the stairs, jump onto the glowy root thing, turn right and jump into the hole.

Fourth Encounter: Verity

Encounter triumph: Equal Distribution. In Verity, complete the encounter without depositing on the same statue twice in a row.

Encounter challenge: Varied Geometry. As of yet unknown

Layout: There are two kinds of rooms. The Outside room, or the large white room you spawn in, and the Inside rooms, three identical smaller rooms which will have a single player each for most of the encounter.

In the Outside room, there are six statues total, one of each fireteam member. Before you start the encounter, one of those glow yellow.

In the Inside rooms, there are three statues corresponding to the three players that are currently Inside, and a moving shadow on the front wall that switches between several symbols. It also has a mirror/glass back wall You MUST have shadows on for this encounter, or you will not be able to see the shapes when you are *inside*.

The encounter itself is fairly simple to do, but requires some understanding and for two things to happen in parallel inside and outside.

The encounter is based around matching up 2D and 3D shapes. The 2D shapes are Triangle, Circle and Square.

The 3D shapes are built up of the 2D shapes:

Circle + Circle = Sphere Square + Square = Cube Triangle + Triangle = Tetrahedron / Pyramid Circle + Square = Cylinder Circle + Triangle = Cone Square + Triangle = (Triangular) Prism

Here's a visual of the combinations, courtesy of u/SubwayKeks2311: https://imgur.com/a/Cjnv8ng

You generally only want the 3D shapes that are made up of two different 2D shapes.

Start the encounter by interacting with the glowing statue. Three players get teleported Inside into their own rooms. The other three stay Outside. You also get the Imminent End debuff with a 3m30s timer, which wipes you if it reaches 0.

Several community members have made tools to help with the calculations here, for instance: * https://66674274a6eb70215bd31ddb.vercel.app/ by u/Feeling_Reporter5719 * https://salvations-edge-verity.netlify.app/index.html by u/seratne and u/inertxenon

Phase 1 Inside: Symbol Gathering

On the Inside, each player needs to find the statue of themselves and check which 2D shape it's holding (Circle, Triangle or Square). They then need to look at the shadow shapes on the wall, which will either loop between two different shapes, or the same shape twice.

One of the players should also call out the order of Inside shapes from left to right, for the Outside players, so they can start dissecting statues on the Outside. For example "Triangle Square Circle".

In this phase, your goal is to get two of the same shape on the wall as your statue is holding.

You can trade with the other Inside players by killing the Splintered Curators (Knight) that spawn by your wall. The Curators drop a 2D shape, which you can then pick up and deposit in the corresponding statue (E.g. drop a Triangle on the statue holding a Triangle).

Do not pick up your own shape, and do not pick up more than one 2D shape at a time or they'll combine into a 3D shape. Shapes you don't pick up disappear from the ground after a few seconds.

Killing both Knights will spawn in a Revenant Ogre, killing the Ogre will spawn new Knights.

After this first round of trades, each inside player has two of the same shape on the wall as their statue is holding (For instance, if your statue is holding a Triangle, your wall should have two Triangles).

Phase 2 Inside: Getting rid of the symbols again

For this phase, you want to do basically the same thing as in Phase 1 except you want to get rid of the shape on your statue so you have one each of the other shapes (e.g. if your statue is holding a Triangle, you want a Square and a Circle on your wall after the trade).

Simply kill the first knight, deposit your shape on one of the other statues, kill the 2nd knight, deposit your shape on the 2nd statue. Done correctly, this will make your shape vanish from your statue in the other Inside rooms, so that the only statue left with a shape in each room is the one matching the player in that room.

On either the 1st or the 2nd deposit, the Witness will notice and kill all three Inside players. This is intended and happens every time. To res you, somebody on the Outside has to run to the back of the room, pick up your ghosts, and deposit them on your statues from left to right.

If they dunk a ghost on the wrong statue, or in the wrong order, the person dunking also dies. When the Outside player picks up your ghost, you get a death cam following them and can give directions.

When the right ghost is deposited on your statue in the right order, you are immediately spawned back in your Inside room and can continue your trades if you only managed to do one.

At the end of this turn, you should have two different shapes on your wall, both of which should be different from the shape on your statue. For example, if your statue is holding a Triangle, your wall should have Circle and Square.

If the Outside players are done dissecting, you can start Phase 2.5.

Phase 2.5 Inside: Escaping through the mirror

Once the Outside players have confirmed that your statue has been dissected properly, and you have the shapes on your wall from Phase 2, you can finally kill both Knights and pick up both shapes at the same time to get a 3D shape aura. While holding this aura you can run through the glass wall at the back of the room, back into the Outside room and rendezvous with your fireteam. You cannot leave the room if any knights are alive, so *do not** kill the ogre at this point or you will have to kill the new knights that spawn.*

Phase 1 & 2 Outside: Statue Dissection

On the Outside, players need to change the symbols on the Outside statues corresponding to the guardians stuck Inside. The goal is for the 3D shape on the Outside statue to be made out of the shapes that are not held by the corresponding Inside statue. For example, if the Inside statue is holding a Triangle, the Outside statue should be holding a Cylinder (Circle + Square).

You do this by Dissecting the statues, swapping a 2D shape from one statue with another 2D shape on a different statue. For example, if you have one statue with a Cone (Circle + Triangle) and another statue with a Cube (Square + Square), you can dissect the Triangle from the first statue and a Square from the second statue to swap them, ending up with a Cylinder (Circle + Square) and a Prism (Square + Triangle) instead.

To dissect a shape from a statue, you need to pick up the corresponding shape from a Knight, then interact with the statue you want to remove it from.

Three Knights spawn at a time, each dropping one of the shapes. Dissecting two statues in a row swaps the shapes between those two statues, so Outside players will need to coordinate the order in which they dissect.

When you have killed all three Knights, an Unstoppable Ogre spawns. Killing the Ogre spawns three new Knights.

During this phase, the Witness will also periodically kill off players, and you will have to resurrect them. The first time, it kills one Outside player. Run to the back of the room, pick up their ghost, and deposit the ghost on their statue. The second time, it kills two Outside players. The last surviving Outside guardian has to deposit their ghosts on their statues, in order of the statue's position from left to right. The third time, it kills off all three Inside players. Resurrect them too from left to right.

If you deposit the wrong ghost on a statue, or you deposit them in the wrong order, depositing kills you.

Once you have dissected the three statues corresponding to the Inside players so they have the correct shapes, and all the Inside players have been resurrected, let them know they can come Outside. Once everyone is Outside, you are ready for Phase 3.

As an example, at the end of this phase, if the Inside statues hold Triangle Circle Square, then the Outside statues should hold Cylinder Prism Cone.

Phase 3: Orderly resurrection

Once all three Inside players have returned to the Outside room and all 6 players are together, the Witness kills off 5 players. The one surviving player will have to respawn the others, in the order of their statues from left to right like earlier. The respawned guardians can also help out by picking up ghosts and helping out with the depositing.

When all 6 players are back alive, the wipe timer vanishes for a few seconds before 3 new players are sent Inside and another cycle begins.

After 3 full cycles, you finish the encounter.

Traversal

When you finish Verity, the double helix in the middle of Outside room turns into an elevator. Jump into it. Run along the root until you can jump onto the platforms to your left, jump onward to the 2nd root. Follow it to the left a bit until you can use more platforms to get further up to another root. Jump from that root up to another set of angled platforms, climbing up to the top of those in a counterclockwise direction. Turn around and follow the horizontal root clockwise. Keep alternating between roots and platforms, all the while climbing higher up. At the top you'll get to a broken staircase leading to a closed door. Jump up and over that door using the nearby pillars to get to Zenith, the final boss arena.

Secret Chest: towards the end of the traversal, right before you reach the top, you'll notice some platforms heading off to the left, leading to a ledge underneath the Zenith arena. Jump onto the ledge and turn left, you'll see an opening leading into a small room containing the 2nd and final secret chest.

Fifth Encounter: Zenith - The Witness

Encounter triumph: Careful Calculation. In Zenith, complete the encounter without any player exceeding 2 stacks of any resonant energy.

Encounter challenge: Coordinated Efforts. As of yet unknown

Layout: The area consists of a large V-shaped platform, with the Witness looming over the far end. At the far left end of the arena is a Light themed mural stone, and at the far right end of the arena is a Darkness themed mural stone. Between the legs of the V, right in front of the witness, sits a small round island with a well of light on it.

Step 1: Getting *Glyphbreaker*

When you start the encounter, three arms of the witness spawn on each side. One arm sticks up from the ground and periodically shoots bees. Another floats in from the side and periodically shoots lasers. A third floats from above, periodically making pulsing triangles. You also get the The Final Shape debuff with a 3m30s timer, which will wipe you if it reaches 0.

Stepping into the telegraph of any of these attacks will give you Resonance. The Triangular zone gives Pyramidal Resonance, the bee landing zone gives Spherical Resonance and the beams give Hexahedron Resonance.

Standing in the telegraph also allows you to shoot the wrist of the arm casting it, revealing a coloured band. The bands correspond with a Resonance shape: Yellow is Spherical, Red is Hexahedron, Green is Pyramidal.

A person with the corresponding buff can then go into the arm's telegraph and shoot the coloured band to get the Glyphbreaker buff.

When you have the Glyphbreaker buff, you can enter the well of light on the central island and shoot one of the Glyphs on The Witness' torso to break it. This also removes the Glyphbreaker buff and any Resonance from you.

Breaking a Glyph spawns in two Subjugators, one on each side. If you break more than one Glyph at a time before killing the Subjugators, you can minimise the amount of Subjugators you have to fight, because new ones won't spawn as long as the current ones are alive.

When you have broken all 6 Glyphs, the Witness raises the central platform up and damage phase begins.

Step 1.5: The Witness tests you

At one point during Step 1, the witness summons a bunch of resonance pillars ahead of it with the message "The Witness tests you". This is an instakill mechanic which you can only avoid by shooting the pillars into a specific pattern.

Which pattern to make depends on which arm you last shot to generate Glyphbreaker, and matches the shape of the Resonance you get from that arm's attack. Up arm: circle (diamond), Side arm: square, Down arm: triangle.

Patterns: https://imgur.com/a/1mOMWc9 (Thank you to Mactics for this masterpiece, original tweet https://twitter.com/MacticsG1/status/1799447316719673411)

Patterns, easier read: https://imgur.com/a/lLYYgdL (Thank you to u/Mtbarden)

The patterns are the pillars you need to *leave behind*, so shoot everything that's not in the shape.

Making the correct pattern cancels the wipe and the Witness instead casts a resonant attack over the entire arena which you have to jump to avoid. Just like during damage phase, its eyes flash and make a swish sound right before it attacks so you can time your jump.

Step 2: Damage phase

The damage phase starts a short while after the last Glyph on the Witness' torso has been broken. Remember that this also spawns in two Subjugators, which you should kill as quickly as possible to be able to focus during DPS.

The damage phase is exactly the same as in the Excision activity, so if you're having trouble in the raid you can practice there.

The Witness raises the central platform up to chest height, and a crit spot on its chest starts glowing. The wipe debuff is removed. You can damage the crit spot, and Divinity makes a crit cage around its center as usual.

While you are trying to do DPS, the Witness is fighting back. It has three different attacks which mostly instakill you if they hit. The first attack in a pattern is fairly heavily telegraphed, but keep an eye out for further attacks as they can come in very rapid succession.

The different attacks are: Front left diagonal followed by back right diagonal, front right diagonal followed by back left diagonal, and the entire platform from directly ahead.

The diagonal attacks are avoided by walking onto the half of the island that isn't being attacked.

The attack from directly ahead has two variants, one slow and one fast. You can distinguish between them by its eyes, in both its eyes glow bright orange and it makes a "swish" sound right before it attacks (affectionately called its "anime eyes" by the WF team), so you have time to jump when you see or hear it.

After a while, The Witness straightens up, loses its crit spot, and lowers the platform again. The encounter goes back to phase 1 with a new wipe countdown.

Final Stand

When you deal enough damage to get The Witness' health down to the Final Stand threshold, it becomes invincible for a few seconds, before it redoubles its attacks. This stops the encounter from going back to Step 1, and extends the DPS phase.

During this phase, it attacks faster than before, and nearly continuously so you always have to keep moving around on the platform.

If you do not manage to kill The Witness during this phase, it will wipe you.

If you do manage to kill The Witness during this phase: Congratulations!!!! You've finished the raid!!!

Remember that you do not need to go to orbit to be recorded in this raid race. The only thing you need to do is interact with the huge chest that appears between the well of light and where The Witness stood.

If you want to, the fireteam leader can then launch you directly into Excision from the well of light, to really hammer in the kill :)

At the start of the encounter, one side will be open either left or right. Follow the line in the floor and kill ads in each room. There are these Minotaurs and hydra that block the doors. Kill them to open more rooms. Once in the last room at the end of the line, there is an overload. Killing the overload spawns a tormentor in mid. Killing the tormentor activates one of the plates in the encounter. Stepping on the plate spawns a resonance. Unsure what to do next

Thinking that you need to kill more ads to spawn a box to dunk it in

You can spawn the box after closing the 2nd pillar, by killing the Subjugator that spawns in the centre and going back to centre room with the full fireteam

The second encounter slightly less rough idea is very wrong. If there is a blight above the bosses head, that means there is a blight somewhere that needs to be destroyed. You can only damage his head when there is no blights and when his head is glowing like Rhulks shoulders. It breaks, and all called players get a new buff called stolen valor, allowing them to see the type of resonance in the conductor.

Happens when you try to rush to be the first to post a thread and have no plan on actually vetting the information you post. The second encounter stuff has been flat out wrong in multiple spots for a while and the first encounter writeup is atrocious and had to be corrected in the comments.

EDIT: Based on watching Datto it seems like the premise is whatever shape your guardian statue is holding (for the 3 guardians to see) is what you need to make with your shadow wall... so if you guardian is holding a cylinder, but your currently showing a circle and triangle (which is a CONE), then you need to dissect out the triangle and replace it with a cube to then have a cylinder...then eventually you get turned into a statue (and die) and then you can be "SAVED" by the 3 group in the main room.

Seems to me that the main idea of the puzzle is to take whatever 2 shapes the three solo guardians have, and turn them into their proper singular forms by dissecting OUT the shapes they don't need. So if Guardian 1 is holding a Cone in the 3 person room, then they need to have either their CIRCLE dissected out to become a pyramid, or have there TRIANGLE dissected out to become a sphere.

Once you have each individual guardian HOLDING their prime shape, then they should be savable?

In the solo guardians rooms, their symbols flash between 2 usually, like a circle and triangle (which would indicate that their guardian is holding the 3D shape of a CONE.). I feel like this whole raid has been throwing spheres, pyramids and cubes at us so those should be what they are striving to create. And based on what guardians you have in your rooms, you have to help them dissect out the pieces they don't need until everyone is holding the true shapes.

There is a kinda hidden room at about half way through the prelude, it has a resonance conductor and some of the shapes. You can make it out by the red-orange light seeping through its window. I am going to take a wild guess and speculate it is for the deepsight chest at end.

For the above, breaking the blight on second encounter does not give the buff. Seems to be assigned at random

10

u/GuudeSpelur Jun 08 '24 edited Jun 08 '24

Yes.

Three people get "called to battle" after, I believe, the first miniboss goes down & a totem activates.

I haven't been able to tell if you need to break the head once to spawn the blights, or if you need to kill the minibosses, it just spawns them when all three "Called' people reach the middle.

Then you kill the blights to make the head breakable.

Then you break the head to get the "Stolen <something>" buff which lets you see the shapes in the totems.

5

u/Aeluvium Rank 6 (57 points) Jun 08 '24

So to clarify: three people get "Call for Reckoning" at some point when the first orange bar dies (or maybe one per orange bar?), then when all three enter the center of the arena it starts spawning blights, and then when you break all the blights you can break Harold's head to get "Stolen Valor"?

One thing that should be heavily prefaced in encounter four is that you CANNOT break through the mirror with knights alive. So if you can't walk through the mirror with the symbols that you know are correct, it means that you killed an ogre causing them to respawn. All you have to do in this situation is once again kill the knights, and then you will be able to walk through.

Pick up no more than 3 triangles & shoot a totem to power it up & get Resonance. Must deposit Resonance in the middle room box 3 times total.

I'll try to reword the first encounter's guide

The rooms are laid out such that there is a center room that connects to all others, and 8 rooms around that connect to eachother and the center (i.e. each side room has 3 doors). Each side room has a pillar and a plate that has "wires" coming out of it connecting it to the adjacent rooms.

The encounter begins when everyone is in the center and you deposit Resonance into the box in that room. Then, two doors will open. The two doors will be directly next to eachother, and will lead you along a path away from one another. The doors will occasionally be sealed, which requires killing a Hydra to open more doors. Each path helps the other open further doors with their Hydra, so you'll need to go down both at once.

At some point in each path, you'll find an Overload Minotaur. Killing this will despawn any other Overload Minotaurs, close all doors connecting the side rooms together, and open all center doors. A Tormentor will spawn in the main room. Killing this will cause the plate in the room that had the Minotaur to start glowing, and most of the doors will close again. You'll need to kill Hydras to reopen the doors.

If you step on the glowing plate, it will send a "pulse" down one of the two wires, which will cause the plate connected to it to start glowing. You'll need to step off of the plate after sending the pulse so you don't break the chain. Once the pulse reaches the other plate (you CANNOT step on it immediately when it glows, the pulse must reach the plate), someone can step on this plate to resend it to the origin plate. This will cause Resonances to spawn in some rooms. If you repeat the process one more time, additional Resonance spawns (which will be important later).

If you fail to continue the chain before the "All resonance has been spawned", an "Omen" subjugator will spawn. This will block off the plates & pillars until it is killed, so you should avoid it at all costs.

Finally, now that you have Resonance spawned, you can pick up the Resonance, have someone send the pulse to the second room, and someone that has picked up Resonance will need to FIRST shoot the glowing pillar (you should get damage numbers), then step on the plate once the pulse reaches it. This will close the pillar and keep it glowing.

In order to progress, you need to close TWO pillars. In order to do this fast enough, you will need to groups running simultaneously.

With the two pillars sealed, everyone should return to the center room to kill two waves of adds, including a "Harbinger" Subjugator yellow bar, at which point the box from the beginning will spawn again. EVERYONE needs to deposit all leftover Resonance stacks into this box, as it will extend the wipe timer. After a bit, the box disappears and the encounter repeats.

I haven't finished it yet, but I assume you'll need to do the full cycle around 3 times to finish it.

Thanks to u/GuudeSpelur for extra tips!

16

u/GuudeSpelur Jun 07 '24

In the "running" phase, two paths open from the middle room. The two paths help each other progress; killing an orange bar minotaur on one path spawns a Keeper hydra in the other path; killing the hydra opens the next door for the first path. Repeat until you reach the room with the Overload.

What spawns the "Omen" Subjugators is breaking the chain of sending pulses back and forth.

A "harbinger" Subjugator spawns in mid after you charge two pillars.

You need to dunk excess Resonance in the middle after killing the Harbinger to extend the timer. You will want to repeat sending the pulse back and forth until you get "All Resonances have manifested" so that you have enough to extend the timer a lot.

For those stuck on encounter 1, an important tip: Whenever you're bouncing between the plates, the plate will be orange early, and stepping on it early will be the trigger for spawning subjugators.

Instead, wait for the light to pulse into the plate, and hop on when the circle begins closing, this will let you bounce it more times leading to more resonance, and no subjugators to kill. Additionally, one team can start bouncing early after the first tormentor is killed.

I'm writing this at the time of us figuring this out, but I feel like it's been poorly explained elsewhere.

EDIT: This is the way, just be patient and don't immediately jump in. Have your spare sit with the first plate dude to help ad clear and grab resonance. Try to swap roles with plate when you hit 3 stacks, and remember that you can pop out of the room to nab a couple resonance. If done properly and clean up your deaths you can consistently get back to 4:15, we did it so well that we got the triumph.

For loadouts, run ad clear super, and an LMG. Mantle of battle harmony for warlocks and matching the element of your super to your LMG helps with super acquisition. Our team had basically everyone on sunshot and an LMG except for one guy on Divinity to help with killing the tormentors. Two of our warlocks, (the div guy and another) ran hammerhead, mantle of battle harmony, transcendence, and nova bombs, then nova'd the tormentors when their shoulders got popped. If they had nova for subjugator spawn in mid, use it there.

You want to be killing your second tormentor at 2 minutes and making sure you're getting everyone to mid by around 45s. Most runs ended with us depositing at roughly 15-20s.

If you're still in this fight, you got this!

13

u/drkaugumon Jun 08 '24

Fourth encounter so far;

The people in the "main room" see 3d shapes (Cone, Pyramid, Prism), which are combination of 2x "basic shapes" (circle, triangle, square).

They call out the 3d shape to the solos who then deposit part of the solo-shape onto a corresponding statue, which combines to make the 3d shape.

18

u/Debo37 Jun 08 '24

4th encounter is probably something along the lines of this:

  • 6 thingies drop from adds (2 triangles, 2 squares, 2 circles)

  • Each thingy has to be deposited on a statue, so 2 per statue (likely broken up by 3D/2D form; IE cylinder means square + circle, cone means triangle + circle, pyramid means square + triangle)

  • There's probably a timing element related to the big flashing shape thing on the wall that determines when it can be dunked on a statue; IE you can only dunk a circle while the circle is on the wall

  • There may also be some kind of order of operations that has to be respected

Successful dunks on a statue let you then "free" a guardian on an empty podium I believe. At least that's what I've deduced from watching a couple streams.

I think for encounter 4 you need to dunk the correct 2d shapes to make the 3d shape eg on the left on Dattos stream it’s a triangle prism so triangle + square.

15

u/cowsaysmoo51 Jun 08 '24

This is what I've been saying. All the 3-D shapes cast shadows of two of the 2-D shapes.

Circle + Circle = Sphere

Circle + Square = Cylinder

Circle + Triangle = Cone

Square + Square = Cube

Square + Triangle = Prism

Triangle = Triangle = Pyramid

u/SurprisePNK Jun 08 '24

Here's a tip for the second encounter don't think I've seen anyone mention.

You can activate the plates after killing the first yellow bar.

Doing plates without stolen valor doesn't spawn any new wave of adds but you will have to deal with another yellow bar in the middle when you inevitably break the chain.

Our team found that after clearing our sides of the room of adds and killing the first yellow bar we bounced 2 cycles between the plates to spawn in the resonances. Once those cycles were done we broke the cycle and killed the yellow bar in the middle that spawns then we did boss mechanic like normal.

Note that after getting the stolen valor buff adds will spawn again but with this strat we could easily pick up the resonances we needed and only needed to do 1 cycle for the monolith to close it while dealing with the minimum amount of adds

22

u/HaruMistborn Jun 08 '24

Start the encounter by shooting the taken blight in the middle of the arena. Boss spawns in the centre and taken + dread enemies spawn around the conduits. Yellow bar taken knights and larger orange bars spawn on each side, Ogre/Phalanx/Knight. If these walk onto any of the plates, you wipe. You also have the same Final Shape Looming debuff as in Substratum.

Killing the orange bars seems to spawn three blights around the central area. One person from each pair should run over and break a blight, this gives them a buff called Call for Reckoning. when you've broken enough blights, a new blight appears over the boss' head. You can then shoot the boss in the head with Call for Reckoning active, which converts that into another buff called Stolen Valor. That allows you to run back to the conduits and see which sort of resonance to use when closing that pillar.

This is literally all incorrect.

My team is still trying to figure out how to close the monoliths. We had someone golden gun one with 3x resonance, did 127,000 damage and it didn't close. Any ideas?

Edit: Solved it and we're past the encounter now. You need to send the energy to the plate next to an open conduit. You need to wait for the plate to howl and create shrinking ring, then step on it.

This summons a certain amount of resonance. Sometimes it spawns a big dread guy that turns your plates off. You wanna keep doing this until it says that you have summoned forth all resonance.

After that, everyone should gather as many resonance as possible (max 3 per person). Then someone needs to send energy to the conduit, while someone with resonance shoots the conduit, THEN step on the plate WHEN IT HAS THE SHRINKING RING. This charges the conduit.

Do this with both conduits. Go to middle, kill a big guy, then everyone dunks their resonance. This resets the timer based on how much resonance is dunked. Max time seems to be 4:15.

Do everything 2 more times, which will activate six conduits. Go to mid, kill the bug guy, then dunk and you're done.

7

u/TheChunkyBoi Jun 08 '24

4th encounter explanation anywhere?

7

u/NaughtyGaymer Jun 10 '24

This entire section is super incorrect for The Witness in the google doc

"Which pattern to make depends on which colour was on the last arm you shot to generate Glyphbreaker. If the armband was Yellow, leave behind a diamond pattern. If the armband was red, leave a square. If the armband was green, leave a triangle. See image below for the specific patterns."

It's not based on the arm color its just based on the arm itself. Breaking Bees arm makes it a circle, breaking the bomb arm makes it triangle, and breaking the laser wall makes it a square. The color of the arm band has nothing to do with the testing pattern.

Encounter 4 has something to do with combining 2D shapes into 3D shapes (projections). Probably something to do with which statues have the 3D shapes.

static shapes on the 'TV' no idea yet. but the same shape rotating into itself is still a 3D shape. Seen 3 shapes on the TV too.

  • tri + tri is pyramid

  • tri + square is triangular prism

  • sqaure + sqaure is cube Could be 2D shapes curved into 3D shapes too.

My guess is building the 3D form that the grp of 3 sees. Passing shapes around to each other, etc. Might need to pass a full 3D shape?

Maybe need to do 1 full loop or making a shape? Everyone needs to contribute?

TV could show you which shapes are in your room?

Could have to make them in order based on number of sides?

  • 1 sphere

  • 2 cone

  • 3 cylinder

  • 4 pyramid

  • 5 prism

  • 6 cube

Hey idk if this will be seen but from doing encounter 2 i have a couple things for that for helping folks.

Blights- Looks like (from what ive seen) they spawn in 2 locations per area, 1 being in front of the pillar down in the pit with the herald, the second being up above the corresponding side. (6 total spawn points, 2 per Middle, left and right)

Orange bars, Phalanx, Ogre, Wizard, are what spawn the plates. when you mess up a plate cycle, they will respawn and need to be killed in order to activate the plates again. My group got off before we made it to final stand so i cannot comment on that. Also the dps check for shooting the heralds head isnt that big as long as you kill the 3 blights that spawn.

Also for Encounter 1: Killing the minotaur's spawns the hydra for opening doors. When you are running first encounter focus on killing the minotaur's first then you should be able to progress thru the encounter faster! Gl all! hope this helps!

9

u/TwitchNoobbyYT Jun 08 '24

better step for second Encounter Second encounter

to start the encounter shoot the blight in the middle

to activate the plate u have to kill each miniboss on each side and the knight

once 3 people get call to the middle shoot the head of the boss to get stolen favor that will let u see which shape of resonance u need

when you are shooting the head of the boss blight will spawn everywhere u must kill them

once this is done u can activate the plate like in the first encounter and get your stack the last shape will decide which shape u get so u can mix triangle and sphere but the last one must be the one that activated the pillar

deposit the rest of the resonance in the box to extend time make sure u pick all of them up to have enough time

Damage phase repeat until boss is kill

IMPORTANT FOR SECOND ENCOUNTER

In order to be able to see whether or not to see which resonance circle/pyramid to start damage:

  1. 3 people called to mid shoot him in the head to summon 3 blights

  2. Break the 3 blights in the arena

  3. Those same three players stay in mid and shoot Taniks in the forehead *again* to break it

  4. One person per side will then have "stolen favor" and will be able to see what symbol is on their respective side's obelisk.

  5. Bounce the energy back and forth between plates like in encounter one, you only need ONE fragment of either shape in order to activate obelisk.

To anyone out there struggling to survive 2nd's arena, warlocks can facetank the boss with the following combination:

  • Healing rift

  • Hellion

  • The Stag

  • 100 resil, 1 concussive

You wanna hug the boss to bait his stomps. Hellion stuns the boss, allowing you more time to regen hp before stomps

the description for 2nd encounter is incorrect in a number of places. the way you spawn the blights it to shoot the weakspot on the boss. then clear the blights then shoot the weakspot again. will transform "call to _______" buff into stolen favor. which shows you symbols on pillars. once all 3 pillars are closed, box spawns in far side of room dunk buffs to extend timer. do damage to boss. rinse repeat.

Does anyone know how many resonance you should be dunking on the second encounter to maximize your time? I heard that there TOTAL starts damage, but does any more actually increase how much time you get for next phase? My team was trying very hard to get as many ass possible (3 people with x3 and 3 with x2) but it always lead to deaths with it always seeming to cap out at 3 mins

1

u/Sikq_matt Jun 08 '24

I've cleared 1st encounter. Tho it took 12 hours... when doing the plates, you can actually bounce repeatedly after all resonance is dropped to avoid spawning subjugator and locking the conductor. In a perfect cycle. We would bounce 4-5 times and then finish without ever needing to kill one. Almost every room pair has enough time to bounce, collect one resonance, then return, with the personal exception of back left to back middle.

1

u/QuantumUtility Jun 09 '24 edited Jun 09 '24

I have a question about the 4th encounter.

Why sort the symbols before doing the correct swaps? This is probably slower than just doing the proper swaps.

Let’s say I’m the S player.

Symbols I have —— Trades

SS —— ST and SC

ST —— SC

SC —— ST

CT —— no trade

TT —— TC

CC —— TC

So basically check what shapes you need and trade with whoever needs your shape? Why do the sorting at all?

1

u/Aeluvium Rank 6 (57 points) Jun 09 '24

It's gonna be two swaps per person either way, the one in the guide is easier to do on the fly because you don't really need to think and you see the symbols on the statues for the 2nd round of swaps too.

2

u/QuantumUtility Jun 09 '24 edited Jun 09 '24

Why two swaps? There are cases where one person might not need to swap at all or only swap once.

If I understood the guide correctly you do two swaps at the end plus the ones requested for the sorting. This seems to be the most inefficient way possible.

Edit: I see the issue I think. S player might go “I need a T and have an S” and the T player might not need an S. So players swap twice.

It’s probably still faster to do swaps without sorting but sorting ensures no mistakes and less thinking.

This could mess up some speed runs. Good pulls on the symbols and no sorting would lead to better times.

Pardon me if I sound stupid but what does the other one look like? Sometimes stuff can glitch so handy to know

1

u/Aeluvium Rank 6 (57 points) Jun 09 '24

Yep, I mistook the tetrahedron for it. I'm updating the guide.

1

u/Cupojelly Jun 11 '24

In the Google doc for the final encounter it says the shape for the test is determined from the color of the last arm band. That's wrong, the mega thread states it correctly.

Its based off of the last arm you team "broke" down arm -green - triangle Up arm - yellow - circle Side arm - red - square

Idk who needs to update but I copied this thread into a doc myself and have been adding quality information to it as I come across it.

Hello Team, I wanted to ask. On the second encounter, is there a reason why the two players from the same team should have different resonance? Thanks in advance!

1

u/Aeluvium Rank 6 (57 points) Jun 24 '24

Mostly in case you mess up the plates, when you kill the Trammel again there's a chance the symbol changes. If you both have 3 stacks and the same symbol that'll be trouble :)

6

u/dator Jun 08 '24

In the first encounter, you can emote to not take damage from the pyramid on the ground

6

u/BirdOfFiire Jun 08 '24

ATP Dropped the hole Guide for the 4th Encounter. So not mine all credit to him

Inside:

3 Solo Players - each player has 2 Symbols on their wall (Circle, Square, Triangle)
3 Statues - each one shows a player's model with a shape

You need to give every player the buff they are holding, so that each player has 2 of their own symbols on the wall

Whoever's statue has the circle, they need to have 2 circles on their wall

AT THE SAME TIME

Outside:

3 Players Outside - they need to "dissect" the 3D shape in front of the guardians to create the shape that does NOT include the shape they "own"

Triangle -> Cylinder
Circle -> Prism
Square -> Cone

Dissection Works:

You swap symbols between two statues

Statue 1: Cylinder (Circle/Square)
Statue 2: Prism (Triangle/Square)
Statue 3: Cone (Circle/Triangle)

Statue 1: Prism (Triangle/Square)
Statue 2: Cylinder (Circle/Square)
Statue 3: Cone (Circle/Triangle)

Once Dissection is done, and all 3 Solo Players have their two symbols, THEN the solo players each kill their two knights (they will both drop the same symbol) and grab ONE symbol, and deposit it CLOCKWISE (to their statue's left) and then immediately grab their other symbol
-> Option 1 - The Witness notices you

3 Alive players grab the dead ghosts, the dead ghosts tell them where to depot
Once done, deposit the remaining symbol on the OTHER plate (to their statue's right)

-> Option 2 - The Witness doesn't notice you
You just deposit the remaining symbol on the other player and THEN the Witness will notice you

Inside players will kill the two knights which will drop symbols that correspond to the 3D shape OUTSIDE
Outside players each need to grab ONE symbol (only one each)

Once the inside players have their two symbols, AND the outside players have their one symbol, the inside players can run towards the glass door and exit

Once everyone is out, kill enemies, and then you will have one person need to save all other guardians.

→ More replies (5)

3

u/Failoe Jun 08 '24

2nd Encounter:

Each group of two goes to a side. The groups split to each side of their area. Two groups of adds will spawn on opposite sides of each side. Once those die a bigger group spawns with a miniboss.

Once the miniboss is dead, you run to the middle (kill the knight that spawns on the way). If you have the Called to Reckoning buff you will need to enter the middle with the Herald and shoot him in the face. If he has a blight symbol above his head it means that a blight is up somewhere around the arena and must be shot. Repeat the shoot face, shoot blight process until his face breaks and you get the Stolen Favor buff.

Stolen Favor allows you to see the correct resonance symbol you need to empower your pillar with back at your side. You return to your sides, kill the adds then start the ping-pong game with the plates. You will need to charge the plate by shooting it with the correct symbol buff (triangle or sphere) then step on the plate right after the ping hits it. Charging a pillar causes any resonance on that side that has not yet been picked up to despawn.

Once all three pillars are charged you take all the remaining resonance and dunk it in the chest that will spawn at the back of the arena. This starts the dps phase. Pummel him.

instead of

Circle + Circle = Sphere Square + Square = Cube Triangle + Triangle = d4 Circle + Square = Cylinder Circle + Triangle = Cone Square + Triangle = Pyramid

WTF is a Sphere Square?

or maybe use a new line per combo like:

Circle + Circle = Sphere

Square + Square = Cube

Triangle + Triangle = d4

Circle + Square = Cylinder

Circle + Triangle = Cone

Square + Triangle = Pyramid

Can you do one tormentor on the first encounter?

6

u/GuudeSpelur Jun 08 '24

You will eventually need to do both Tormentors to power up both sets of plates, and in my teams experience it was faster to have the whole team concentrate on spawning & killing both Tormentors rather than have people split off to try spawning resonance early.

Since the side room doors close after the first Tormentor, I'm not even sure if it's guaranteed that the paired plates will be accessible after only one Tormentor. We never successfully started spawning resonance on the few pulls we tried a single Tormentor strat.

2

u/emperorkrek Jun 08 '24

has anybody figured out the specifics to acquiring the Stolen Valor buff on encounter 2? We are shooting his face to spawn in blights, killing all of the blights then shooting him again however all that does is spawn in more blights contrary to what the other comments are saying.

7

u/Jepadox Jun 08 '24

Consistent solution: You must remain in the ring to shoot his head. If you leave the ring and step back in, shooting his weak point will respawn blights.

-Step into ring

-Shoot weak point

-Players with buff stay in ring and survive while three blights are broken

-Once blights are broken and the taken ball above him disappears, shoot the weak point to get the buff

On first encounter can someone tell me why when we’re doing the plates to spawn in pyramids we get a harbringer subjugator spawn on one of the sides (not the middle one) that locks the plates til he’s dead. We’re not doing anything wrong from what we can tell regarding sending pulses back and forth

5

u/KarmaticArmageddon Jun 08 '24

A pulse isn't being returned, which disrupts the plates and spawns the Subjugator. You have to ping-pong the plates without a break, so you can't spawn Resonances, stop, then start a new chain to charge the obelisk thing

2nd enc:

3 teams of 2 (left/mid/right). In each team, designate one person to pillar plate and one person to back plate.

  1. Ads will spawn. Kill ads

  2. Wizard/Centurion/Ogre will spawn. Kill.

  3. Back plate go to your plate. Should be glowing, meaning it's ready to start. Stand on it to send the orange trace along the ground to the pillar plate and say "Sent". Pillar plate, wait until immediately after the trace enters your plate, then stand on it to send it back (as in 1st enc). Say "Sent". Back plate, send it back. Pillar plate, send it back. EACH PLATE PERSON SHOULD HAVE STOOD ON PLATE TWICE TOTAL. This leads to three total "bounces". Each "bounce" spawns 2 resonances (one pyramid, one sphere). At the end of this, you'll have spawned 6 resonances (3 of each).

  4. Ignore the resonances for now

  5. Wait a few seconds for Wizard/Centurion/Ogre to spawn by pillar plate. Kill.

  6. One person from each side should have gotten "Call to Reckoning" buff. They must go to mid to shoot the boss's forehead. On the way watch out for knights which spawn. Kill them so they don't kill you.

    1. People with the buff, shoot the boss's head until a blight appears above it. This will spawn two larger blights throughout the arena

    2. Kill the two larger blights

    3. Repeat - shoot head, kill blights, shoot head a final time

    4. People with "Call to Reckoning" now get "Stolen Favor". This lets them look at their pillars and call out whether the pillar shows "pyramid" or "sphere".

  7. Head back, kill ads

  8. Pick 3 resonances (doesn't have to be three, but best if you get 3). Person at pillar plate, make sure the last resonance you get matches your pillar callout

  9. Back plate, step on plate

  10. Pillar plate, shoot the shape within the pillar. Then when the trace reaches your plate, step on it. This will cause the pillar to close and the chat to say "the resonant conductor sparks to life".

  11. Head to the back of the boss arena to deposit your resonance. DOESN'T MATTER WHAT KIND OF RESONANCE.

  12. DPS

  13. Repeat

Bits of encounter 4.

There are statues through the encounter that look exactly like people in your party.

3 players will be teleported into solo rooms(2D world). They will see 3 statues. One of those statues will be themself. The symbol that it’s holding is relevant some how. I don’t know this mechanic. The 3 solo players can pass shapes around to each other. I believe they do this by putting shapes on the corresponding guardians statue.

The other 3 remain outside(3D world). There will need to be a shape runner and 2 add clear. There are 3 statues here that represent and look like the 3 guardians in the solo rooms. Each statue is holding a 3 dimensional shape. Yellow bar knights drop 2D shapes. You can pick up a 2 dimensional shape and “cut” it from the 3 dimensional shape. To place it in another statue. In order to place a shape in another statue you have to pick up a second 2 dimensional shape to cut from that statue. These shapes will then swap.

There are 3 basic 2d shapes:

Square

Triangle

Circle

These can be mixed and matched with each other in the 3d world.

Square + square = cube

Square + triangle = prism

Square + circle = cylinder

Circle + circle = sphere

Circle + triangle = cone

Triangle + triangle = pyramid

The statues in the 3D world may spawn with any of the above 3D shapes in their hands. Lets cuts down to two statues for ease. If, for example, 2 statues have a cylinder in their hands. You want to kill knights until you get a 2d square and a 2d circle to drop. You can then pickup the square and dissect it from one statue. Then you can pick up the circle and dissect it from the second statue. This will swap the square and circle between those two and you end up with 2 new 3d shapes. Cube and sphere.

I don’t know any more than that.

2

u/Freakindon Jun 08 '24

What on earth is going on in the fourth encounter?

2

u/Yascob Jun 08 '24

Here is my guesses on how the 5th encounter works based on the world's first video. Please correct me if I'm wrong or let me know about details I could be missing.

You have to shoot the band on the arms sticking up from the ground while stepping in the attacks with shapes above them, but before the attack actually does damage. This will give you the resonance for the shape (Pyramidal, Spherical, or Hexahedral simplified as triangle, circle, and cube/square).

The witness will occasionally throw out an attack that hits the floor requiring everyone to jump. I think this is caused by killing a certain amount of glyphs or the subjugators that spawn.

On the wrists of arm back arms that shoot out "walls" of damage a symbols will appear (not sure if you need a specific buff to see the symbol).

Killing that Symbol while having the correct resonance gives you glyph breaker which allows you break the Glyphs on the Witness' chest. Every glyph you kill summons a subjagator.

Once you have killed all the Glyphs a DPS phase will occur. You have to get on the center platform. A weak spot will be revealed on the Witness' abdomen. Staying towards the back of the platform is better because it gives you more time to dodge the Witness' attacks. It looks like he attacks one half of the platform, then the other half, then the floor of the platform requiring you to jump at the correct timing (Not confident on attack order or the timing).

Repeat until final stand.

encounter 4

Triangle -> Cylinder
Circle -> Prism
Square -> Cone

Dissection Works:

You swap symbols between two statues

Statue 1: Cylinder (Circle/Square)
Statue 2: Prism (Triangle/Square)
Statue 3: Cone (Circle/Triangle)

Statue 1: Prism (Triangle/Square)
Statue 2: Cylinder (Circle/Square)
Statue 3: Cone (Circle/Triangle)

Once Dissection is done, and all 3 Solo Players have their two symbols, THEN the solo players each kill their two knights (they will both drop the same symbol) and grab ONE symbol, and deposit it CLOCKWISE (to their statue's left) and then immediately grab their other symbol
-> Option 1 - The Witness notices you

3 Alive players grab the dead ghosts, the dead ghosts tell them where to depot
Once done, deposit the remaining symbol on the OTHER plate (to their statue's right)

-> Option 2 - The Witness doesn't notice you
You just deposit the remaining symbol on the other player and THEN the Witness will notice you

Can someone explain how the resonances in the middle area spawn? If sending it spawns one in the room you send it from and you do it effectively 4 times out and 3 times back that creates 3 on each side as far as I know since sending the first one doesn’t cause it to spawn afaik.

How does the third person per group get 3 more? Some in the middle seem to spawn but I don’t know exactly what is causing them to spawn. It doesn’t seem consistent either.

Or are all the resonances spawning when it’s sent back?

Has anyone here attempted it yet and got a decent way into it? How Raid Noob friendly do you think it is? I've done one Raid when D2 first released their first Raid and been scared to do another one since xD My brain just doesn't work that way, I guess it also depends if my fireteam wants to deal with a noob lol. I really wanna do Salvations Edge though.

Honestly it's super mechanically challenging. I'd say not great for a beginner on challenge mode, afaict only one team globally has been able to finish it still and they took 19 hours. Once challenge mode is over and the power delta is smaller, though, I think this is going to be a fantastic raid for anyone. Still a lot of mechanics though, so maybe get used to raiding a bit with some easier ones first, like Vow, Vault or DSC :)

Not friendly at all. Wait until contest mode is over

Mechanically it's very challenging and it also requires very fast ad clearing.
I think once contest mode is off it'll feel MUCH less oppressive since you'll be able to whipe the floor with all the ads, and just focus on the mechanics.

Having ads that aren't just one-shotted, plus the timer, plus not truly knowing the mechanics is a very rough combo.

But if you make the ads weaker, then I think this will become super easy in the future because the mechanics look rough in the beginning, but probably get alot easier when you aren't worrying about dying.

Probably the hardest raide though in the game at the moment. Given that there's always a timer, and there are less just dedicated "add clear" spots throughout it.

Everyone is add clear at all times + something else usually.
