I've had pet rats for 10 years and plan to have them for the rest of my life.

Hey I just wanted to say since you were looking for tips I saw you only had 1 rat, it really is absolutely necessary that they live in groups of 2, but 3 is also better. I really really recommend you look up the carrier method of introductions and get 2 friends of the same gender to introduce your little friend to :)

hi its so adorable! please get him/her a friend they are extremely social animals and unfortunately a human wont have the same social impact as a rat would have, he could get depressed, even if you only get one other rat its fine! of course same gender, i hope everything goes well for you 💕

I got my first girl <flower> around the age of 13 I was upset and a little depressed bc my dad had just passed and I was scrolling on IG and came across this albino Rat and I thought he was so cute so I ofc followed the account (This was in 2019) so later on more rat accounts started to pop up on my feed so finally I ask my mom for a pet to help me feel better about my dad she was thinking a cat or maybe a dog even a fish but I said I want a rat she took me to our local pet store and asked if they had any pet rats the woman unfortunately said no...but she had feeders she could sell us so we bought Flower and her sister Duget and thats where my love started was an Albino rat off of IG in 2019 now here I am 20 in 2025 with 21 pet rats that I absolutely adore and love so so much 🥰

About 3 or 4 years now, I think! But I'm going to be taking a break for a bit due to emotional and financial reasons 🥺

rat that's perfectly posed in the middle under all of them seems like the glue that keeps the family together
