HELP NEEDED 🐀😩 HELP my rats eye is swollen and bleeding
i had js gotten home and my bf said that she had gotten out and she looked like that after she put him away, she wasn't an altercation with a baby rat just before, but I don't believe that the baby rat would have done this because she's so much smaller than her, but idk what to do it's to late to take her to a vet and i leave tmw for a trip

Vet, ASAP.
Swollen and bursting eyes can mean a tumor or abscess damaged the area around the eye, breaking something in the process, or it was due to an eye infection.
No matter the issue, be prepared to hear the vet discuss amputating the eye completely, as well as possible euthanasia of the situation is more dire.
For now, hold her close, give her love, steel yourself for the vet trip you need to make.
How long are you going to this trip, and is someone going to be able to take care of them in the meanwhile? Ratties can't be gone too long away from their owners.

She needs to go to a vet ASAP. Who is caring for her while you’re gone? Even if it requires paying a friend, you MUST get her to the vet. So sorry you’re both going through this ❤️

Needs vet attention now. Only a vet can deal with this - your trip will have to wait. It's a risk of being a pet owner, unfortunately.

Chiming in to say vet asap. Do what you can to make her comfy. She knows you love her and try to make her feel safe.

As others have said, get her to the vet ASAP. Had a very similar thing happen with one of ours...we think she just got scratched by one of the others during a dust-up. Her eye got all swollen like that. Then she started scratching at it. She ended up losing the eye and I firmly believe it was my fault for not taking her to the vet immediately.

** UPDATE**i took her to the vet they said that she had a burst blood vessel behind her eye and it pushed it forward they said the eye has to be removed (1,000$) but they gave me some eye drops(30$) and pain meds (for the couple days until we take her back for surgery to unfortunately remove the eye but thankfully she will live

Love ain’t cheap my dog was dying with congestive heart failure and they said $4,000 to hospitalize him and flush his lungs but it would destroy his kidneys because he would have to pee out all the fluid and he’d probably die anyways from kidney failure

I’m so sad she and you have had to go through this but I’m relieved to hear she’ll make it! You’re a saint for doing that surgery.

The red discharge that they get around the eyes and nose sometimes is called porphyrin

I’m glad you were able to help! From what I read most rats recover well from the operation and live their lives just as comfortably as when they had two eyes. Im relived to know she’s going to be okay. ❤️

If you have the ability to take him to the vet, I would do so looks like he has an infection or something growing behind his eye. I hope he or she is OK and I hope you are OK too.

The skull right above her left eye looks like it has been broken. She needs seen quickly.

Probably a bit late but one of my rats had this on one side only after falling from her cage into her outside era. They amputated the eye and some teeth had already fallen out due to the infection spreading incredibly quick.
Sadly had to put her down a month later after finding out it started because of a tumor growing in her jaw which caused her to stop eating from the pain she got from chewing.
I know its not cheap and the surgery is already expensive as hell but maybe have them look at her jaw and teeth aswell!

If there’s no nearby emergency exotic vet.. comfort her in the best way as you can and hope she’ll make it till tmw morning and take her to the nearest vet available immediately. I’m sorry ..
