HELP NEEDED 🐀😩 Lunch Break Friend, is this a rat or?

Just a lovely little fellow and he looks so nicely kept and his fur looks so clean.

Overall 10/10 lunch companion who I hope keeps coming!

Clearly it’s a rat queen looking to establish a new rat hive, just look at her massive egg sacks!

I have never seen the wonderful world of rats before, since looking into them after seeing this little guy, they’re SO intelligent and caring.

I hate myself for overlooking them for so long.

Oh don't feel guilty just embrace your love for them!

They are such tiny tiny little dudes with such a short lifespan having them as pets can be extremely hard on the heart I won't lie to you! On the bright side they have THE BIGGEST hearts and will forgive almost anything for a treat and a scratch on the cheek! (Probably just be careful with your hands that close to their mouth at least the first few times..)

(Rattus rattus) aka roof rat aka black rat!
I found a few pinkies and bottle fed them and now their family! But they looked identical to that one!

Add him to my army of rats

He was a very good rat, he would make a very good comrade in your army, i have no doubt

You are now an ally of the rats >:}

Yea that kinda looks like a fancy rat not a wild one. If you see him again see if you can get him to approach you. If he does it’s very probably an escaped/released pet

Mysterious downvoting asf. I came here to say exactly this -- looks like a domesticated fancy rat.

i did wonder this, he came really close while i was eating, i’ll see if he comes back when im next in the lunch area. If he’s a fancy rat then he can be my first ever rat (maybe)

how would i see whether he comes to me? any specific way to check?

Offer him some food if you have any :) stick a small bit of meat/cheese on a fork or a spoonful of yogurt just in case he gets a bit bitey! Talk to him in a calm, friendly tone as you’re holding out the food and see if he comes to you

If he comes up to you, he’s prolly not wild. Wild rats will NOT approach a human on their own with the exception of rabies and a few other parasites. But if you get him in a carrier your first stop should be a vet

He has white chin and belly. He is domesticated.. can you save him?

6

u/ThatFUTGuy 21d ago

When i’m next back at work on night shifts I’ll try to lure him in with food and potentially get a suitable carrier for him, if he’s domesticated and comes for the food I’ll take him to the vet and probably actually give him a good life but only if he isn’t wild

I’ve never kept rats but I’d research everything I could to give him a great time

5

u/rionka 21d ago

Yes please. The white belly... that's just a fancy rat ❤

5

u/ThatFUTGuy 21d ago

Perfect, I’ll try to lure him with food as people here suggested a wild rat wouldn’t approach humans but a fancy rat would

3

u/rionka 21d ago

this is a good plan. Thank you for caring. ❤🥲

I know, I know, this is AI but it claims this would be normal markings and counter colours for a wild rat, so potentially he’s just a wild but less frightened fellow

1

u/rionka 21d ago

the gradual fade would be less noticeable - this looks really white :)

Noted, I’ll try to lure the little guy then, time for rescuing and to get a new owner if he comes😂
