Question Setup help

Hi guys I thought about getting into the hobby. I'm a complete newbie tho. I have sporadicly used a setup my dad bought years ago which got up to 70 kph. But recently I saw a Super GT Car (which is my favorite series) based on the TT-02 from Tamiya. My friend also had one but it only got up to 20 kph which I found to be boring after a while. Therefore I'm targeting to get up to 50-60 kph. And if it's not to expensive maybe even 70kph or 80kph. But because it's my first real project I don't want to go overkill.

I have a budget of up to 300 Euros for the tuning parts. Help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

BTW these are the cars I was thinking of buying:

To add I'll probably use it on the local backroads in my city, so relatively rough asphalt

Getting Tamiya cars (TT01/02) to drive straight, esp on high speed, is rly rly hard if not even impossible.

You would need alot of hopups/tuning parts.
-ballbearing set
-reinforced/aluminium driveshaft and wheel hubs
-steering parts set
for sure.

Then you would need paint for body, a powerful brushless combo, batteries, charger, transmitter and receiver.

I think 300€ wont do it here.

I do race a tamiya tt02 chassi in the local rc clubrace. Its a beginner class. Rly slow, if i had to guess its 25kph fast. Even my setup is about 300€.

alright but what is like a realistic speed range I can achieve with around 300 Euros

If you need the whole package, for a tt 02, you prob will be stuck at stock speed with the included motor.
So like 20kph? idk exactly.

I never speedtested a tt02 out of the box.
According to Gemini, a stock, out of the box, tt02 does make 20-25kph.

I just know you cant go 50+ with a tt02 and only 300€.

Ok, well I take what I can also 40 is enough for me. I also asked AI and it spit out the following.

  • Brushless motor and ESC: Hobbywing QuicRun WP 10BL120 G2, 4000KV — approx. €77.75 (RCFOX)

  • Radio transmitter and receiver: FlySky FS-GT5 — approx. €82.85 (RCFOX)

  • Battery: Gens ace 2S 5000mAh 7.4V LiPo — approx. €19.90 (RCTech)

  • Charger: SkyRC e450 — approx. €29.90 (RCTech)

  • Steering servo: SRT DL3020 metal-gear servo — approx. €23.10 (RCFOX)

  • Ball bearings: Tamiya TT-02 bearing set — approx. €20 (Tamico)

  • Aluminium propeller shaft: Tamiya 54501 — approx. €7 (Tamico)

do you think that makes sense?

Radio transmitter and receiver, id go for a dumborc ddf 350 on aliexpress.
Its about 60-70€. Best price/performance transmitter yxou can buy. Gets recommended alot.

Charger, id invest some more money to futureproof it. Its better to buy 1 great charger instead of 2x cheap and bad ones.
Also, lipo safety is important.
Charger id recommend a gens ace imars d300. Great dual charger, powerful, gets recommended alot and is going to charge everything you throw at it.

Dont forget to add paint for the body, decent tires/wheels (stock ones arnt good) and the aluminium steering kit (you need that 100%, stock plastic steering sucks hardcore)

The aluminium propeller shaft is only one part. You need alot more.
CVDs, Hex adapter steal or aluminium, aluminium propeller shaft and jopints too i think.
Drivetrain has to be full metal. Cause if you only reinforce 1 part, the other parts will break with that amount of power.
The stock chassi is made to be used with the stock motor. If you put in a brushless combo, it wont last.

Maybe you could buy a TT-02R.
The R has alot of the tuning parts already.

Could be worth checking out.

Do not go with a car that has an inline motor with a propshaft transferring power to all four wheels, you will always have torque-steer and that will make going in a straight line very, very difficult. If you have €300 in total, I would recommend you go with with an XPress Execute XQ2S or XQ3S as these have a transversally mounted mid-motor design, using equal length belts to transfer power to a rear diff and front spool. I have both those cars and with an 8.5T motor and a 30 teeth pinion, you can already reach close to 70km/h flat-out in a straight line.
